Really good choice for a first car, well built, safe and reliable

i think a Polo is a cheaper car to insure

Polo is cheap but drove a dsg for the first time. Dunno if it’s the car but u can’t mash the throttle like I can in a Manila

Grant M auto gearboxes are so good these days i wouldnt hesitate to get one, little cars are mostly used around town, usually stuck creeping forward in traffic jams, manual car, 1st gear, brake, clutch in, neutral, hand brake, clutch out, where as automatic , brake off, creep forward, brake on Sorted! Auto every time for me 👍

Autos are fantastic now (proper autos not clutchless manual cars) i prefer autos unless its a sports car

Both great cars, I have to say that Skoda have really upped their game and you probably get a better car for the same amount of money as their residuals still arent as good as VW, but make sure you drive them both and make sure they have proper service histories, then flip a coin, whatever you do dont rely on me :-)

personally I think the best 1st car from a financial point of view would be the Polo, however from a street cred point of view I think the Golf or the Mini would be preferable, the Golf is a little understated (boring) but the Mini has all sorts of stuff that you can use to customise and personalise it, but seen as Women have a say in at least 80% of car buying decisions these days, and thats not taking into account that 20% of men lie, you may be better to ask your girlfriend instead of me, as you get older you will realise that you will not buy whats best for you, or the car that you yourself want, the decision always comes down to whats best for a quiet life, good luck for the future Barrie :-) ps if you happen to be single at the moment then congratulations as this is probably the first and last car that you will ever get to 100% chose yourself!!!!

Yes, best getting a 1.0 until you build up your insurance no claims bonus

bearing in mind I will be driving tallish people around too

All 3 good cars,Polo best made but old mannish, choice between Fiesta and Corsa for me would be whichever i could get with the youngest, lowest miles, best service history, in best condition i could get for my budget

Barrie Crampton Depends what you are after, if it’s a fun to drive, drivers car then get a fiesta or corsa. If it’s build quality I would get buy the polo

Well I bought a 2015 skoda fabia which is almost the same as the polo, but cheaper and better spec and more modern interior. The fiesta is probably the most fun to drive. Best thing to do is go and test drive them. My mind was made up when I drove the fabia.
