Chevrolet joins the subcompact class with this new Sonic. Sold around the world, this little car is built in North America to replace the Aveo. From www.motormouth.ca
My first new car I bought when I was 20, was a Sonic. It was a LTZ, Hatch Turbo. It was a neat little car, and got great mpg. I miss that little thing!!!
I have put over 100,000km on mine and I am still happy with this car. This car may cost a little more than the competition but it is very refined and the driving dynamics are way ahead of it competitors and even some of the compacts cars a class above. this is a lot of car for the money especially in LT trim you can keep the price under 20,000$ and they now made heated seats standard on lt trim and above.
Very happy with my 2012 LT hatch. Had to get the valve cover replaced, but it was covered under the warranty. 84,000 MILES.......... Get the 1.4 TURBO !!!
@Z34teen Listen, I love GM, but remember Deawoo (a korean car company)? Ya, it got integrated into GM and they are the ones behind the Cruze and the Sonic... so this is Korean technically, but build in the US of A...
I've been looking into cars lately. A small but big advantage the Sonic and even the Kia Rio have over the Ford Fiesta. It's the timing, the Ford I have found uses a timing belt, so at 80,000 miles better start thinking of having it replaced, and its not a cheap job to have done. The Sonic and Rio like the VW Golf all have a timing chain, which generally lasts the life of the engine. So yeah, Ford went cheap.
Ι own one with diesel engine since Dec 2012.I like to have the Chevy bow on the bonnet on steering wheel on the start key. It's a very reliable car, a bread winner.
I like this car...it can be a good second car use for around the city and work. Still thinking if this will be more better than the 2012 Kia Rio. I find both economical and really attractive...gotta test drive them both soon...so many new sub-compact cars...so hard to decide.
im goin to try to get a FIT 1st&if i cant i will get the sonic.my concern is how long will this car last.a honda will last me 10-12 yrs.A american car i doubt that
ok so its not a 1.6 its a 1.4 on the turbo mine is a 2013 lt1 its a good car and which Korean car makes more power out of a smaller engine? the kia rio is a 1.6 to make the same hp less torque and not a programmable ecm which the sonic has and can be reprogramed for an 18 hp gain from trifecta also has way more aftermarket support look at bad news racing for parts yes the prices are a bit jigh but its a new model
He isn't testing an LTZ version, his car has the optional heated seats. Thats why he said they weren't standard, but you can still get them as an option for the 1LT version
Just changing the name to GM Koren does not make it dead. look this car up on wikipedia.and you will see this car is manufactured in Korea.(in the same plant that use to make Daewoo)as well as U.S. and Australia.
ok I now see what your saying however I thing even in my current car that have the heat seat button place but you just cant press it in ...its non active...mind you is not a Chevy but I'm neither agreeing or disagreeing with this. Thank you for pointing out what I wasn't seeing though. Funky place to put that though
No. The Sonic IS built in America/Canada. They sell it in other countries as the Aveo, and it's built else where for those countries as well. But the Sonic's that are sold in America/Canada are built in America.
Sorry to say that IS an LTZ... it has heated seats which are standard, and you can't get those rims on an LT. Especially not a 1LT. I drive a '13 LTZ..
Headroom is lacking for someone 6 feet or greater, had my head sticking out the sunroof with the seat as far down as possible. Knee room is also lacking, door pockets dig into the legs.
The Sonic was engineered in Korea and many parts come from Korea to be assembled in the US. Go to your Chevy dealer and look on the window sticker. Only 47% US/Canada content in a Sonic, 70% in a Corvette. A Honda Accord has 80% US/Canada content. Do your research before opening your mouth.
Back door handles too high for little kids? Obviously you are not a parent. I wouldn't let my little kid to open the door by himself, if I'm gonna strap him to the car seat.
I have one of these. Had it for about 6 years. I highly recommend getting a different car after you've hit the 100k mark because this car is all downhill from there. Total piece of shit car and everyone I know who has actual driven one for a few years had the same problems. Had a 2002 Hyundai Sonata for a couple of years and I had only spent about $1000 or so in repairs, but the Sonic in the 6 years I've had it has cost me about $8000. And it keeps having more and more problems. Never buying anything Chevrolet for as long as I live after this car.
They do feel a little cheaper than the Sonic and, say the Fiesta but I think that they're getting up there. For the first time they are competitive. Keep in mind Hyundai and Kia are winning awards for their new vehicles. Ford and Chevy aren't nearly as much. They're just getting started in the small car business unlike the Koreans. But, I'll admit Chevy has got something here with the Sonic. I just don't think that Korean cars are a a penalty box. Not anymore.
It's still Korean. Doesn't matter if it's built here or not. The Fiat 500 is built in Mexico and it's still Italian. The Camry is built in America and it's still Japanese. You lose! Good day sir!
Oh wow, optional arm rest. What is up with that? Same with the Honda Fit. So stupid. Used civic or corolla (non-rental) or used focus is your best options - stay away from smaller engine Chevy's.
