one of the best videos on RU-vid . I just got 5" turbo back with muffler for mine . sinister egr delete.edge cts2 gauges and efi live by Kory Willis waiting on tune so i can install everything
awesome sound, I can't wait until I get mine done like that. I have the programmer and tunes from draconian diesel just waiting on the time to do it all.
That sounds tight man!! I can't wait for my 13 to be off warranty, hopefully by the time it's 2020 (or I hit 100k which is much more likely to occur first) there will be available goodies to make it a little more fun.
With the stock suspension/tires I was getting about 16.5-17 mpg combined city and highway. Strictly city I'd say it would be closer to 15.5-16 mpg. Since this video I've put an 8" lift on the truck and 37's so the mpg has definitely dropped; especially in the city.
Brandon Jansen I couldn't help but notice, where do you live? Most houses in my area (greater Phila-NYC) like yours and the ones in your neighborhood around here certainly don't have that many pick ups parked out front.
Thanks for the vid, it was well done and informative. I have a 6.7 too and was wondering how it would sound with no muffler. Mine is rotting out but warranty isn't up yet. I think I'll take my muffler off too, before all the deletes. Steve in Ladysmith.
Sounds really awesome Brandon! I am buying a 2014 6.7 this week. When the warranty is done the garbage comes off, meaning EGR and DPF. I have a 2002 Duramax right now with straight through exhaust and it made a world of difference in performance. Have you had any issues with fault codes or post injection that was meant to cook off the soot in the DPF? Or does your minimax correct that? Your truck is awesome. Can't wait to get my own now, :)
Keep in mind that there aren't currently any tuners for the '13+ Rams and with the way things are going there might not be any delete capable ones. At least not made in the US. I think RaceME is the only one working on a delete tuner for a 2013 right now. Nope, no codes or regens. The MiniMaxx takes care of all of that. It's definitely a whole different truck with all the emissions junk taken off of it. Way better performance and actually sounds like a diesel should.
Yeah wondered why I wasn't seeing anything for 13's and 14's. I will keep my eyes on the RaceME then. Hoping they do something. Trucks need to breathe and I agree, straight through exhaust makes an enormous difference. Thanks for your help.
Nice, I have a 14 manual and all of my part I had on my 2012 was able to go on but the front bumper and they redid the front shock and springs they have it like ford now. I am waiting for a programmer to come out.
I haul a 17' gooseneck trailer almost 4 out of 7 days of the week, I also live in California, so I'm to get more power out of the truck..I reserched cold airs and exhaust that are CA legal but they all lack in power😞 anything you reccomend? Thanks man!!!
You won't find anything that is legal in California that will give you any noticeable gains unfortunately. A CAI won't do anything for a stock truck... they just look good and add a bit more turbo sound. You can look into an emissions present tuner. An H&S MiniMaxx street tuner will do that for you. You'll gain a bit of power and response. Nothing like a full deleted truck though.
Nope I don't. I actually live in BC, Canada and our emissions testing is quite a bit different and more lenient than what it is in the States; especially California. They actually got rid of our emissions testing centers at the end of 2014 since almost all new vehicles are too efficient to even need it. There's been talk that they might be cracking down on diesel trucks more eventually but who knows how long that will be. For now I'll keep running what I have. With the custom tunes I'm running the truck is really clean and doesn't smoke at all unless I really put my foot into it before it can build boost. So it doesn't attract any attention from the cops or tree huggers up here.
Hey man how much was the delete kit? And how do you pass smog? Lol thanks, funny how I found your truck on RU-vid too, love your truck! Subscribing here swell as following you on ig! !
Thanks man! I bought it all about a year and a half ago so prices were different then than they are now. I paid $1800 for the MiniMaxx including the MCC and Overdrive unlock codes and 4 custom tunes (ended up switching customer tuners down the road which cost another $100). Sinister EGR delete kit was $195 and the Flo Pro exhaust was $320 + $50 for the tip.
+Brandon Jansen The H&S are hard to find having a reasonable price and I am unsure how to determine if they are counterfeits, i hear there are many that are 'hack's'.
+pantherinsky They're completely overpriced there's no doubt about that. Mainly because they essentially had the entire market for 4th gen tuning for quite some time. Now there are other options out there that can compete with H&S but still have their pros/cons. There isn't any counterfeit H&S products that I've seen. If buying brand new you won't have any issues at all. If buying used you just need to make sure that the previous owner "unmarried" it from his truck so that you'll be able to install it on yours.
Right now I have mileage, tow, street, and street performance with no modifiers. When I lift the truck later this year and put 37's on it I'm going to get Draconian to add the big tire modifier and then get a version with the 5.9 sound as well to try that out.
Yes sir. I live in Abbotsford but am in Langley pretty much every day. My office is in Port Kells and the main job site I'm working on right now is in Campbell Heights (South Surrey) so I'm through downtown Langley often as well.
+ernesto luna Needs to be fully tuned and deleted. I'm running an H&S MiniMaxx with full custom tuning through MCC, a Sinister EGR/cooler delete and a 4" Flo Pro turbo back exhaust.
Well that was white smoke, not blue, big difference... And that's something a deleted diesel will do depending on the tuning. If you really want to see smoke you should see what it does on the 150hp tune when I get on it. Fills the road with a nice grey haze.
While driving yes, I pretty much leave it on all the time. If I'm in town I normally don't turn it on until it's warmed up though so that it isn't whistling in peoples ears at stop lights and such.
Brandon Jansen OK, cool. I have the exact same truck, but silver. Tires and the stance seem so small to me. I was thinking about a leveling kit, but just dont know. I call her my boat-mobile.
joshua6200 Ya stock the tires and stance are definitely small. I have an 8" lift kit coming for the truck and I'll be putting some 37's on it. Should fix that problem ;)
The 5.9 tune keeps the exhaust side of the turbo open to make it more like a fixed vane turbo rather than a variable geometry turbo. This gives the truck a deeper, sound. Draconian Diesel is who technically offers the 5.9CR tune but there are other tuners providing similar things. I'm currently running tunes from Raymond Rich and the truck sounds phenomenal. Definitely has the nice deep sound a Cummins should have. I haven't been running his tunes long enough yet to give a full review but my first impressions of them are very good. I would definitely recommend contacting Ray if you're interested in custom tunes. Hopefully soon I'll have a chance to make an exhaust video of his tune.
The 4" system wasn't bad with drone when unloaded but definitely wasn't great when towing. Getting up in the RPM range it definitely had some drone and got quite loud. I ended up swapping to a 5" system with muffler in 2016 and have been running that ever since. It does still drone at times as well but overall is a better sound and setup than the 4" in my opinion.
@@brandon.jansen 10-4 I see. I got a 4” system now with a 30” flo pro muffler and bought a 30” straight pipe over the weekend to put on. I tow a 23’ boat so hopefully it won’t be too bad.
Not all of these trucks can do this. The high idle is a dealer enabled function. I'm not sure if you could get it enabled after the fact, but I'm sure you could.
Now that it's deleted I'm getting about 16-17 mpg on winter fuel.... but it should be doing better. I'm still working out some kinks with my tuner. I think it should be up around 18 or so on winter fuel and then about 21 on summer fuel.
yeah that's not bad, how many miles do you have on your truck now, my uncle has a 2013 big horn with the 6.7 and he has got the high output version with the aisin 6 speed and he gets around 18 after breaking in at 25,000 miles, he used to get about 12-13 when he first got It brand new. im just kinda wondering cause I might be getting a kick ass job in the next couple months and im looking at a 2012 Laramie longhorns down in texas that are anywhere from 42,000 to $49,000 with 20k - 25k miles and I still want decent gas mileage for a big diesel or im thinking on the 2014 hd duramax if I start out high enough at this job
TheTonganoxiechief Yes the 2013+ 6.7's get better fuel mileage stock because of the DEF system. I was getting about 14-15 mpg with mine stock but that was a lot of highway driving. I have about 15,000 km on the truck now so that's roughly 9400 miles. So it still might get a tad better but it should be pretty much broken in by now. Summer fuel will definitely make a huge difference though. I should jump up a few mpg then. And I think I might try a 5.9 tune that leaves the VGT open which should help with mileage a bit as well. What's nice about a 2012 is that you have the option to tune and delete it. That's why I went with a '12 over a '13 when I bought mine. With how things are going right now emissions deleted tuning may never happen for the '13+ 6.7 Rams.
yyeah my moms friends husband had a badass 2012 cummins and is a diesel mechanic for the army or something and he had so much work done to it, He was getting around 23-24 in it but I guess this year for Kansas they started some type emission laws and he had to get rid of it cause they where going to fine him $4500 dollars a year because they went through all the companies that he bought his stuff from that I guess Kansas has against there emission testing shit so he sold it to some guy down In texas for 47500 on the spot and now he has a 2007-2008 mega cab and has everything done to it that he had on his 2012 and theyre not going to fine him for anything now. how stupid is that
They were closed. But the camera did pick up more sound on the ride along compared to how it actually sounds in the cab. At regular cruising speed on the highway is barely louder than stock. It's when you start to give it fuel that it really gets loud.
+J robinson rand to keep the cylinder temperature up and/or help warm up the engine. A diesel at regular idle does not create enough heat to burn the fuel properly which will lead to the fuel washing the oil off the cylinder walls wearing out the engine and contaminating the oil.
On this truck it's part of the variable geometry turbo. When you turn the exhaust brake on it partially closes the veins on exhaust side of the turbo making it harder for the exhaust to exit the engine. That it turn makes it harder for the engine to turn over, slowing it down which then slows the truck down. It whistles because of how much air is being forced through small openings.
