2012 Yamaha Phazer Snowmobile Review 

They are a great sleds! I just got one for trail riding, and ice fishing. The 4 stroke has more than enough power for me. I'm not the biggest rider, and it fits me perfect. Mine was converted to a 136" track. Still tops out at around 80mph. Love it!

At 12 years old I was the fastest kid on the trails. I don't think I ever saw that speedometer under 100 km/h, whether it be on the straight rail bed or on windy trails, through tight pine trees. You don't need some 160 horsepower sled to be fast on the trails, heck I blew by those guys daily on my little Phazer RTX. I would recommend this sled to anybody, even serious trail riders because it's easy to ride and handles extremely well, as well as gets great gas mileage. Don't bash the Phazer.

i like how a year ago this SAME GUY was talking about how much he loved the phazer and how it was enough power to still have fun and stuff. i have a fucking rx1-1000 and i still think the phazers are great. god, anything for views eh?

I rode an '07 for 2 seasons and had a freaking blast on it. It hit 80 mph pretty quickly. I was never cold on it.

I love the Phazer, I dont see why everyone needs a 120hp plus sled these days. Look at all the fatalities here in Michigan, almost all due to excessive speed. I'll take low end torque anyday over top end power. Thats why i dont ride 2 stroke quads, and now ride thunpers.

Here is my opinion on the phazer, First, i do recongnize that its engine only puts out 80 horsepower, it has a strange look and it only has a 500cc displacement. Yes it is underpowered by 10 horsepower but however, if it can overcome the traction from its skis in a turn and have good low end punch makes me decide that the phazer is an excellent trail machine, its not too powerful but fast enough to cover ground quickly on the twisted trails. The sled's fuel injected engine was built on a 500 block but if they had put 600 size pistons and pots in, the sled would be a middle class performer like typical modern 600s. I personally like this sled and I plan on buying one because it is a four cycle sled with a lower AUW (all up weight) It has a dirt bike style seat, good suspension then most four bangers, push button electronic reverse, no expensive EPS like the apex which only adds weight and best of all, its small size four being a four stroke is something only yamaha engineered which is very impressive in my books.

I've had 2 phazers both 07. The only reason I got rid of one is no reverse. And it will lift the skis going up a hill not on flat. I can get around any of the old 2 strokes on the twistys. And keep up to the big long tracks. And I was going down a gradual slope and the conditions were perfect and I got 88 mph out of it and backed off. Great ditch banger to!

i have a old 2000 sxr500 (Yamaha) i still love it and can easily keep up. i hit 95mph on the lake stock! i love yamaha!!!!

I ride an elan 250 and a 399 oly, I've never felt that I can't keep up with others, I dont think 80 horsepower is that disappointing

i used to own this sled (now nytro modded to 170hp! ) but this sled was so much fun for jumping and carved pretty good if they would just keep the motor and give new looks i think it would be a top seller in the youth/beginner/women's class.

Put studs in this sled and it is an absolute beast around the corners!

It is a 498 not a 409cc bud

Buddy my phazer her goes 90 mph and its stock and you forgot to say that it never let's the skis stay on the ground

Ok, so throw a pipe on it and you gain 12hp, you then have a 500cc 4 stroke making 92hp. That is insane. My 96 vmax 600 makes 90hp. My mom owns a phazer and it feels much more peppy than my 600

Its a fun sled, It was my first one that I have ever had. Unfortunately you will be left in the dust on long straights.

Throw a turbo on it and its as good as any after market snowmobile out their, and you can tune it better to get more power, plus i ride one and it has enough power and torque to get the skis about 2 feet off the ground for about 10 yards and then i get scared and lett off the throttle, so you tell me if it still sucks

But on a circular track a 500 is the fastest class. You only need a big cc sled for mountains. A 500 is all you need for trail riding. Besides, THERE ARE SPEED LIMITS ON TRAILS

very harsh review of the Phazer.. i love riding them, they are plain flat out fun. the downfall is teh engine being too small for an experienced rider like stated.. this engine needs a different chassis to tailor too new riders like it was designed for..

Not much out there to compare to this. The Venom doesn't look great. Maybe a skidoo 600ace. What's out there for kids or young teens????

would it be good for someone who has a 03 summit 800 right now and want a 600

That's good on motocross track

the 2 stroke sleds r geared differently than the 4 strokes to have the equivalent torque. quads and dirt bikes are a lot different since they dont have a cvt type transmission

My 1991 phazer goes over 100MPH and its over 20 years old.

I love yamaha but this sled sucks
