2013 Chevrolet Sonic LTZ Review, Walkaround, Exhaust, & Test Drive 

Just bought a new 2014 chevy sonic and love this car! Would just like to clear some things up for anyone looking to buy one. 1 the engine is not that loud and who drives without music on anyway. 2 I would rather have a plastic interior than a softer one that can scratch easily and dry out in the sun ( if you live in Texas you know what I mean ). 3 there is plenty of room in the back for other people unless your passengers are in the NBA. 4 this car gets really good gas milage I'm getting 38 hwy and 32 city with an auto. All in all a really good car for the price

I recently had the opportunity to drive a rental 2014 Sonic LT 4-door with the 1.8L engine and over 14k miles. I drove it over 400 miles on the highway and I was really impressed with it. According to the trip computer, I averaged at least 38 mpg on the highway. It handled well when I hit rain towards the end of my drive. Some people that hate on it need to actually give this car a chance and drive it instead of writing it off. For the record, I normally drive a Ford Focus.

I just bought me a brand new 2013 Chevrolet Sonic LT hatch. I have it in white with white wheels. It's not turbo, but it has Mylink, Remote Start, and other great things.

My kid just turned 16 and wants one of these cars. Any drawbacks? I was thinking probably a little light for the snow and rain just not sure this would make a good starter car

You do very good, thorough reviews. Please do one on the Mazda3 with the 2.5L engine. I'd like to hear your opinion on how it compares to the Focus, Civic, Golf, etc.

Have you checked out the manual transmission with the turbo? That improves 2 of your main drawbacks which were the jerky auto and the fuel economy. It's also cheaper than the LTZ when you get it in the LT trim.

I have a Sonic LT 1.8L, and I enjoy it, but my one regret was not dropping the coin to get the turbo engine. I should have. But the 1.8L gets me 30mpg average, and holds pretty well to the EPA estimates if you aren't slamming on the accelerator from stops. I do wish they would get a Sonic Diesel, like the Cruze has. I would trade in my Sonic for that upgrade. :)

This car is very good. In Brazil was not very successful but the hatch until it sold a little.

Yes remember the Corvair ,Vega, Monza, AVO and now the Sonic. After 4 trys at making a good subcompact car I hope Chevy finally gets it right. Time will tell.

How about fuel consumption? I got an Aveo (that's straight up crap fuel economy)

this is small car yet look very solid and reliable

In regards to turning on and off the power button for the info center. You have to hold the power down for 2 seconds to turn it on. once it's on, the other buttons are very responsive to touch. I own this car. Other than that, good review.

Sonic 2013 Turbo. New issues but the body is pretty thin but on the Highway it glides at 80

Btw this was sold as an Aveo in other countries like México and even as a Sail in Chile. The reason for the name change in America is that Chevy was broke after the 2008 crisis and the Aveo was a failure in America so, as a condition to receive aid from the government, they were forced to discontinue the brand in America.

Chevrolet's bigger cars like the new impala and even malibu are nice but their small cars are still disappointing to say the least. Maybe now that Dan Akerson is gone they can work more on improving their lineup

why are you comparing the car to the fiesta st instead of the normal fiesta. sure it has a turbo but its priced probably closer to the normal fiesta since unfortunately chevy doesnt make an ss version. in which case i would bet its quicker than the fords.

Really need the manual in this. Peak torque is at 2000 RPM... you really need to do full throttle and shift SHORT. reving the piss out of gains you nothing... shift at 5000 RPM max. But of course you cant in the Auto... oh and the hatch looks so much better. One other thing.. Who sits there and caresses their dashboard??? Why do I care if the top of the dash is soft? The door's maybe, and the arm rest certainly. But every reviewer is always talking about the FEEL of the materials.. that no one ever actually feels in daily use.

you do good car test and you are cute to the 2013 Chevy Sonic is a ok car but try the 2014 Honda Fit but the only thing is the Fit has no sunroof

Its an Australia Holden Barina, nothing really stands out for the price. engine is noisy considering not even direct injected. Sorry Chevy, you missed mark again on this one.

You should test the same vehicle with the manual transmission. Something tells me you'd like it better. ;-)

LMAO. For $600 you can add a cold air intake and a tune and smoke the ford fiesta. And the 6 speed manual is a thousand times better than the auto.

I would prefer a used Civic, Mazda 3 or Corolla over this for that money.

The 5 door looks better . Overall not a bad car .

Not picking on the sonic.. but my dart 1.4 turbo sounds better.. imo.. But that,s the Fiat part.

Oh please. GM sucks on small compact cars big time. I would definitely buy a Honda, Mazda, or even Volkswagen over this! GM needs to seriously step up their game in the competitive market.

This is an improved Aveo, that's all, they renamed it Sonic here, but elsewhere it's still Aveo. The Aveo was so bad that they had to stop using the name over here.

I USUALLY REALLY LIKE THIS LIL ASIAN'S REVIEWS. but on this one he pisses me off. his stats are. JUST. WRONG. and this is my car so get it right kid! #1. The gas MPG IS 29/40, 33 mpg combined. its not "average" Its excellent. it's hard to do much better then that with a straight gasoline engine. #2 G.M.'s 1.4 L Turbo engine IS MOST DEFINITELY direct injected. it's top of the line efficient, brand new crafted engine. does not use any old technology what so ever. the turbo is even built directly into the manifold to make it lighter as well as many other features. the sedan is so ugly where is the hatchback?

The sedan is horrid looking. From the rear it looks so tall and skinny and anyone can tell that tiny trunk is an afterthought. Are people that hatchback-phobic they're willing to live with an ugly car with less space?

I am sorry to say Chevy has lost it completely. Not worth the money. would prefer a Honda Civic better. Only thing good about Chevy is there Trucks even though there too big.

The sedan version of this car is the ugliest car on the market today in my opinion. The hatchback is ok but the sedan is just hideous.
