I show you how to change the automatic transmission fluid in a non CVT 9th gen Civic. This process is also similar to the 8th gen Civic but not 100% the same.
For everyone that says I added too much fluId, I did not, I used 4qt's because 3 was not enough. The manual does recommend 3qts for a drain and fill, I put 3 in and it was still low. PLEASE STOP TELLING ME I ADDED TOO MUCH FLUID.
In the video you don't show when you check the level. You just poured all 4 quarts. Was it on level ground? I find that if you keep the spout on top when filling it pours out smoothly. Thanks for the vid. 👍
For those who aren't sure, measure how much you drain then fill with that amount. Bring the car up to temp and shift through the gears then take another measurement and add more if needed.
There are two filters in Hondas BRZA Transmission which 2013 Civic is equipped with; Internal Strainer Filter and External Cylindrical Cooler Filter. Unfortunately the whole transmission needs to be dropped so as to replace the internal filter.
De acuerdo al manual, la transmision automatica lleva dos Potes de 1/4 y otro medio de 1/4, y tu le pusiste 4 potes. Esa caja no demora en reventar empaques y retenedores.
Jaymin it depends, I had my car on ramps. Servicing the car on a lift (like a dealer would) may only net 3 quarts of fluid. I let mine drain for a long time to get as much of the oil out, I checked it at the "normal" 2.5-3 quarts and it needed more. So I ended up using 4 qaurts.
Mine takes 2.5 qt. Regardless of what anyone says, measure what drains out, then, put that much back in. How? I change the engine oil, then use the empty engine oil bottles to measure what drained out of the transmission. The transmission holds 8 or more qt in total, but only 2 to 4 drains out. Therefore, I drain & fill at every engine oil change.
I like to jack up the back of the car and put them on jack stands whenever am doing a transmission oil drain and fill. Almost 1/2 a quart more will drain when you do that.
When checking should fluid come to just at the bottom of the x ed line on the dip stick or up somewhere in the middle or top of the X Ed section of the dip stick… thanks
Hey everyone. In a respectful note to the guy doing his own work. Good job. I have a 13 civic ex-l R18 1.8l auto. Why is that some people say to use 4 quarts, some say almost 6 and others say 2.5 quarts. You cant debate this cause if you Google it. You will see yourself. And there is no machine at a Honda dealership that sucks out tranny fluid. With that said. How may quarts of tranny fluid should the transmission be filled back up with? Let's say you didnt measure what came out. How do you know how much to put in. Any professional help with KNOWLEDGE of this. Please reply. Thx guys
Add 2.5qts and then go for a short drive to make sure the fluid is hot and made it's way through all the gears. With the engine off check the fluid level with the dipstick. The fluid must be checked "HOT" with engine off. Add a bit at a time but shouldn't need more than 2.75qts.
Hey nice video I just changed my oil with the same kind of oil in my Honda Civic 2013 I put in a new horn to dual nice and loud now thanks for the video great helped me alot
My civic 2013 had around 31000 miles . Should I change the transmission oil even if the maintenance code for transmission oil change didn't appear so far ??
Hello I saw you removed the splash shield? Is there possible way of removing the rest of the splash guard? I need to access to transmission mount and starter.
do you recommend doing a transmission service after 90k miles? I have the same car and i’ve had people tell me doing it would screw up the transmission entirely.
I have over 110k miles on my Honda Civic 2013 and I bought it when it had 98k. The maintenance is telling me to change my transmission oil but I have people telling me to not change it and leave. Should I change it or leave it as it is?
My 2014 EXL was originally done at 38K, then at 47K I decided to do it just based on time since had been several years. There was no IMID warning. And I dont see a way to manually reset the Trans fluid. So does that mean my light is going to come on based on the mileage from the first dump and fill? If so I guess Ill just be keeping my own schedule. Thanks
Wow this was fast thank you Soo much for your time , information and reply. you are awsome!!! I have the same car and I need transmission fluid change! It's my on my own first time but your content gave me the confidence thank thank you sooo much.
@@todds.6028 Honda says 3x drain and fill to flush iirc, I don’t do it. Just change what’s in the drain pan more frequently. Normally every 15-23k miles for me. Is a easy task to do while changing motor oil.
Have you noticed any sort of rattle with this car when the AC is on and you are holding the brake in Drive? mine is a 2013 ex and it rattles pretty badly and I've tried to diagnose and it not my ac pulley.
i hope youve found the issue by now, but if not, check your motor and trans mounts, my old nissan had shot mounts and would rattle like a bitch when i was at a light in drive.
Very helpful and thanks for the video. What would be a decent interval(kms) to drain/fill oil once under light driving conditions(mainly highway). Also what is the recommended replacement frequency for ATF filter?
@@OrlandoDrivers it has external trans filter. It sits below the air box. I just changed it few weeks ago. You can do a drain and fill between 30k to 60K.
What’s the difference between getting it done at dealer with they do the flush. Is this just efficient? I like doing the oil change just looking to do stuff for 100k good video :)
The dealer doesn't get rid of the shavings or change the filter. Its fluid change only. Nothing wrong with either method as long as you just do it regularly.
Any difference in shifting after this service? Got my car last year a 2012 civic exl coupe around 68k kms it now has 80k kms and am thinkingof changing the fluid.
Orlando Drivers i drained and filled but had to drain again because i put 4 based on what the dealer told me but only 2.5L came out. I wasted a good 1.5L :( you learn n live o well haha
cooper johnson any trans problems? I got my 14 honda civic a while back with 104k miles it now has 120k , should I even consider doing it? Im afraid of having trans problems
Your drain plug has, what appears to be ball joint grease, on it when it is first pulled out. Mine had the same. I was expecting metal shavings, not grease. When I wiped it off on a paper towel, it was all black. The existing transmission oil was a dark red. Any idea why ball joint grease was stuck to the magnetic drain plug?
I am facing problem in my 2013 civic i have never changed the transmission fluid since new ,now the ODO is 180,000 KM , recently i start to feel vibration and rattling also some kind of hiccup while reducing speed and try to accelerate again , ( its like you are driving a manual gear car on third gear but from stop ) is it because of the old oil , do i need to change the gear filter as well ? what could be the other reasons ( spark plugs already changed )
@@javierosorio2044 Hi Javier, i actually took the car to a garage just last week, he flushed the gear and replaced the oil , problem reduced to 50 % now, but during the repair i noticed that air filter rubber neck (pipe) is completely broken , the one after the MAF sensor, i replaced it and i cleaned the MAF sensor and now the hiccup problem is 100% solved and the car run smoother, but still the vibration problem not completely solved, important note if you also want to replace the air filter rubber pipe and the gear oil: use only original honda oil for the gear, use only Maf sensor cleaner for the sensor, Remove the battery cable before you disconnect any sensor, never touch or move the throttle since its electronically adjusted or you need to re adjust by specialist which will cost extra money, and also note that MAF sensor is very sensitive device so treat it with extra care, please update me if was able to solve the vibration issue, thanks
Rabee Audi so this is my update I cleaned the MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner, i cleaned the throtle body with air intake cleaner and cleaned the hose, i cleaned the box with air intake , i change the transmission filter and the transmission oil, it was almost black too dirty, and the filter was so dirty too, so at this moment vibration issues reduced by 80-90% i can not feel the vibration anymore, the transmission oil its not red yet i guess it need another drain. Thanks for the advice it was to helpful.
@@OrlandoDrivers k yes those transmission are bulletproof buyt let's see how this CVT hold up I got a 17 civic a year ago so far so good with CVT damn 70k is nothing had a lot of life left
@@eseven2547 I know but they all doing it and is hurting reliability Honda and Toyota not the same anymore cheaper and cheaper that's how they built them now and at times that damn cvt is dangerous it take a few seconds to catch on is crazy yes keeps yours...
Hey nice video . I have a 2012 honda civic im gething bad gas mileage somebody tell me the i need it to change the transmission fluid to get more gas mileage since my car is doing the vibration and the oil is black . I aready change spark plugs oit 0-20 mobil 1 synthetic. Any ideas to improve the mpg thanks
hello my friend , i accidentally put cvt hcf2 fluid to my 2015 civic non cvt at transmission, what kind of problems can the car experience (1200km driven) i would apreciate ur answer ... thanks..!!
I would drain and refill with the right atf several times because there's always oil left in the transmission. Don't know what problems you'll get, but shifting will probably be one.
I just bought mine used and it has 55k miles, and I said to myself I will do some maintenance before I start using the car, and I changed the transmission fluid and filter at the dealership, and I'm freaking out right now, the car jerks when shifting and has like sudden movement when I step on the gas, the car didn't do any of this before I changed the fluid. Please advise me I'm freaking out, I'm afraid I will need a transmission rebuild, but it's only 55 thousand miles 😥
@@rudolphmadronich1467 After draining it, I raised the rear end on the driver side to see if I could get more out. A little more came out. Then I lowered the rear jack.
