2013 MacBook Pro 13" Vs 2013 MacBook Air 13"

Karina, The Air's display is subpar compared to the Macbook Pro and just about any 1080P Windows machine i looked at. The weight difference is only slightly noticeable. Certainly the Air is a great machine and the battery life is as advertised, but the 8-9 hours I get of my Pro is plenty. I had the Air for a month and it performed well, but the retina display is worth the upgrade in my opinion, despite the fact that I preferred the Air's overall design.

if it is mostly for internet browsing, go for the air. if you are going mostly for downloading, go for the pro. no, the retina display is not worth the money unless you are a photographer or video editor.

did you find the answer? I want to do video editing and online business, just wanted to know if Air or pro made a difference. My laptop is mac book pro late 2013. My partner is looking to get a refurished 2013 also, not sure if it's better to get Pro instead of air

Yes.I am not sure what your definition of a youtuber is , but I believe youtuber today is everyone.Most skilled and tech savy people are on youtube , not just casual timepassers. I asked this as I had never used Mac before and so was uncertain about it.Anyways I ended up getting a Macbook air.

Definitely Macbook Air only 2.9 lbs. cheaper too.

im not sure but i prefer MBP since it has a 2.4 ghz processor, and its not accutally heavier or bigger than MBA nowadays

Air is a much lighter laptop which makes it a better choice for students. You should get a 13" macbook pro if you are a student

Fredrik Iversen I actually have both a 2014 i7 Air and a 2014 i5 Pro, and I have to say the Air with i7 is very powerful for a laptop this small (as powerful as the 2.8Ghz i5 in Pro, which I own). But if you want to play a littlebit and do some intense video editing, take the Pro, because it has Iris graphics.

Yes of course if you want a laptop u can edit and game on the Pro is a much more powerful machine. Me for instance who is going to study journalism in 2 years think that the 13" air is the best choice, for me. I need a light laptop with good battery life, memory and OK video editing.

Usage - regular official use, sometimes photoshop and after effects, little games. Budget is also restricted to around $1500. Which one you suggest for me? and this is my first macbook for me; Does the macbook air or pro has heating problem?

Since you will be editing beauty videos I suggest you get one that has retina display but I would suggest to get one that your budget allows

Shahzad Khan It'll run MC just fine, until you set all graphics to max (also use OptiFine). Despite the fact it is not designed to play but to do "not-so-heavy" tasks, it should perform quite well. And it shouldn't overheat that much. But remember, it's NOT a gaming machine.

You will not like the Air if you have to do any kind of photo or design work which requires color accuracy. The Air's display needs to be improved. I used my Air for about a month before I decided to sell it and upgrade to the Pro. The Air performed fine, but that display just did not work for me.

i7 with a macbook 2013 ( with ssd memory ) is like putting a sticker on the back , the performance is going to be way better in the rMBP 'cause it's made for this , the rMBP is more powerful and efficient than the MBA. If your want a laptop just for writing, reading,watching videos,facebook,tweeter...I'd choose the MBA, but if want a beast for working with programs like autoCAD, finalcut , or others professionals programs for designing, video editing, calculation, etc. I'd totally choose the new retina Macbook Pro. I'm studying industrial design and I have the rMBP , and is the best computer I've ever had ,and in terms of weight and thinness it's not such a drawback, because is only 0,65 lbs heavier and it's really thin so I can carry it everyday around campus I hope you to find it helpful !!!

The Air is OK for every task I have given it. It can handle video editing as well. I have a mid 2010 17" MBPro 2.53Ghz Core i5. My MBAir is twice as fast!! It even plays games better! But it does not suffice as a GAMER laptop. Call of Duty 2 Modern warfare is not playable. So I'm Looking for Mac gaming ability.

With your budget you should certainly go for the Pro. You will be disappointed with the Air’s display, especially for photo editing. The Air did fine for everyday tasks and did fine running multiple apps, but the screen is a little disappointing to say the least. i sold my Air after a month to get the Pro and really like the screen much better. The Air is fine for everyday users, but for a more color accurate display definitely get the Pro. You should also consider that this review is for the 2013 model and that the 2014 Pro comes with standard 8GB ram now.
