Hey i like what your doing! Hearing your story made me feel a little bit less lonely. I've had my ostomy for about three years after almost dying several times two different surgeries and a couple blood clots. Despite all of that though, I've learned to be kind and compassionate and I dont think thats such a bad trade. Its also nice to hear the perspective of someone whose about the same age as me and see that we have the same optimism. Well thats it i guess i wish you the best of luck!

I got ulcerative colitis late in life; I was 54. I fought to keep my colon. Unfortunately, I waited too long. I have some really bad physical problems because I fought so hard. My doctor said that he'd never seen a colon as bad as mine, and my doctor is the head of colorectal surgery at USC. He was going to operate on me twice: take out the colon & rectum, then build a J-Pouch and reconnect. I was like you; I was terrified to reconnect. I too keep my illeostomy. I'm glad I'm not alone.

Hi Laura! I just had an unplanned emergency surgery and got my ileostomy on July 16th.. I have been in the hospital again due to a blockage the last few days but am feeling a lot better now. I live in Madison, WI and would love to come down for this meet-up if I am up for the trip by the 10th!! Your videos have already helped me so much with feeling good about this change and it would be awesome to meet and chat with some people who could relate! I will be there if I can :)

Well, I have an ileostomy and in my experience, raw fruits and veggies are the big troublemakers. Just don't overdo the fiber, keep it low so you don't get blockages.
