2013 Ram 1500: Closer Look 

This was the best mid-cycle refresh in pickup truck history. The 2013 Ram was a game changer.

25mpg full-size truck with 9000lbs towing 1500+lbs payload? I think this is great. I can understand a lot of insecure men want a v8 and more towing capacity than they will ever use, but for us working people who use our trucks for a living I definitely need one of these.

I have a 2010 F150 and had to replace the cab corners that rusted out,i drove Ford for years but next week im going for my first Ram.

I like Mark Williams delivery. He's matter-of-fact and doesn't try to be overly showy or glib, like a lot of auto video guys are. It actually makes me feel more trusting of his opinions, since he doesn't come across as hyping the truck. At the same time, he's not painfully boring, like some people (Ron Kiino from MotorTrend is a great example of a guy who needs his pulse checked).

I drove from Iowa to Texas with my 2013 ram crewcab 5.7 with the 8 speed trans. I got an avg mpg of 25 mpg. way to go dodge!

that shifter is an option you don't have to have it the one up at the steering wheel and the one at the center consol by the arm rest is still available go to Chrysler dealerships and youll see

Ram trucks are the only thing I would drive.

i usually dont like trucks but damn this and the ford raptor are the only trucks i'll ever consider buying..

You guys complain that this isn't a truck because of all the tech features, but have you gone and configured one? This is the top of the line $50,000+ Ram. Go to the site and configure an Express or Sport and you'll see that you don't have to have all this stuff. I'm pretty sure RAM will be my next vehicle. I love the Eco-Boost, but the design of the truck does nothing for me. JMO of course.

No, not a mistake. The 8 speed hemi be available by early 2013. It just the six for now on the hemi.

Amazing car, it's now probably equipped better than BMW X5. Ford, GM or Toyota are way behind the Ram now. Impressive, I love this truck. And the HEMI tolerates LPG quite well. Here in Europe regular gas costs $7 per gallon so LPG is the only option :(. Still, it makes even a HEMI very fuel [or more precisely - costs of it] efficient.

About to buy a new truck, so I test drove the Ram, Ford and Chevy half tons.......and it isn't close. I have no prejudice, as I just want the most for my dollar. The Ram destroys the GM and with all the improvements, push it ahead of the Ford. The rotary shifter opens up space and is cake to operate, the 8 speed feels awesome, the adjustable ride heights and closed grille are trick, the interior is beautiful and kills the other two and the exterior styling is head and shoulders above the Chevy (which is friggin' hideous) and racy looking compared to the boxy Ford. The ride on the road is superior and that's all I care about because I have no intention going "off-road" and there is PLENTY of power to tow with the small (5.7) Hemi. As for the new additions being nothing more than more stuff to break.....that's a false argument. If technology and options are bad, lets get back to 1965, when there was very little to break. And until I see a Ford, or GM that doesn't break, I'll chalk that kinda talk to sour grapes. It really came down to the Ram and Ford since the Chevy is so ugly and lacking on so many levels, Shakira would have to be a low cost option to be in the conversation, but after multiple test driving, the Ram edges the Ford on numerous fronts and will be the truck in my driveway in a couple months.

yes, at that range you can get a landrover LR4 V8 fullsize SUV with 3 row seats and navi option

this is a really well thought out truck. but i bet after all the bells and whistles, the price is now up significantly.. fully equipped probably around 60k

I love all the people complaining about the knob to shift. All the column shifters do anymore is send an electronic signal anyway...why not make it less obtrusive?

A Durango is considerably lighter that a 4 door Ram. My point is, with a full cab and any kind of trailer an engine producing so little torque will be working hard where as a more powerful engine will do much better and possibly get better MPG pulling a large load

The Pentastar is an improvement over the last V6, more torque and horsepower and better MPGs. Paired with the new 8 speed transmission, it's not weak. I'm sure it has plenty of acceleration for daily driving. There's nothing wrong with wanting a more fuel efficient truck. Can you haul a bunch of heavy equipment and tow with a sedan? Nope.

looks like a great truck. I just wish it had a locking rear diff. on the 1500 without the 4.10 axle.

the darker the color the more heat it absorb s so for those of you who want heated seats a Laramie with black leather will heat up the most more than the brown longhorn but the opposite will happen when cooling the seats

Ok now the RAM V6 is my favorite full size truck, beats ford's Ecoboost and GM's 5.3 vortec.

my neighbor has a 2003 dodge ram 1500 and it only has 5 lugs and he sometimes hauls up to 12 000 trucks on a trailer with it and he only has a 4.7L with 256000 miles on it and somehow hasnt had to replace anything yet

If you don't want leds, you can get a truck without them. Leds are only Sport, Laramie & Long Horn.

Makes me like Dodge even more. Ram owns the most fuel efficient truck in the world title. Ford used that same title as a bragging right, now Dodge can. Way to go Dodge.

On the ram website, if you build one of these with the 5.7 the only give it a 6 speed gear box??? is this a reviewer mistake?

why make such a big deal over the new shifter? I test drove one with it and it was actually nice.

But does it tow 6200lbs? Nope....and dont try to argue this fact.... Durango holds the crown for Towing among Crossover/Midsize SUV's

If you want fuel economy get a crossover. You want torque in a truck and 260 ft/lbs as pretty poor for a truck this big. It will be okay for cruising on a flat highway, big going up a long uphill section or pulling anything will mean the transmission will be downshifting to maintain speed

4.13 is that Ram box not shut ? Or is the trim line a little out ?

But the Hemi is still available, so I don't see what the fuss is about. True, modern day V6s produce as much horsepower, but (unless boosted) they still lack the torque of a V8.

Why would the grille flaps close when hot,, im thinking they will close until it warms up... anyway...

yeah if they plan on towing anything without having to buy a 3/4 ton that extra lug will allow more pulling pressure then the 5 lug will

Chevy V6 does about 11 and fords is 9.1 8.6 is excellent for a V6 which is the same engine in a minivan

s do called Fuel Effeicent F150 has Less Millage than a Standard v6 Ram... Ram getting more Millage than some Crossovers and Minivans... Imagine this set up on the already 25Mpg Cherokee...

Ah great, american know some styling with the " gear knob" much better looking then those joysticks back then!

dissapointed no stick shift.otherwise love it.

and NO just cause its a 8 speed Auto doesnt meean wit wull be downshifting... the thing does have Low range settings for Towing in differencult situations like up hill towning.

If you want a stick shift you can alway get one in the Cummins HD trucks.

V6 Tows about 6200 lbs... 5000lbs in a durango and thats not even with a 8 speed

2013 f150 has projector headlamps and the eco v-6 tows more and has more power than even the hemi v-8 only 2 mpg diff lol ill go ford

Ram still hasnt went to 6 lugs like the competitors have which will hurt thier competibility a bit and im not real impressed by the turn dial shifter thats a bmw not a ram

to many problems i see with the dodge ram for starters the shifter i can see that failing with an easy electrical problem same with the gril those shutters get jamed or fail when closed its going to heat up that fake hemi fast. next the 8 speed trans good in a car ba for towing anything and same with the rams rear coil springs. good for cars not for trucks makes towing worse and more unstable. every year the ram 1500 is getting worse as truck and its really sad to see

xenovex ...... the right had side of that box..... if that's build quality , i'm a ...... a Brit , we know how to build things badly and loose all our industry, come on you guys look at that trim line from the Ram box lid to the wing edge, just prior to the tail gate. What's that a step line of, what,1/16 of an inch ? You guys have to get the build quality right to beet the Japanese off, it cannot all be hung on waving the flag. Detroit is not empty, just 'cos the price was wrong.
