Mines a 6.6 Duramax and when it’s cold it sounds like a blown motor. When it warms up to around 190 it sounds perfect. I hope it’s just an injector or two. Worried about the motor and the motor is new with only 8,000 miles on it as well as the injectors. I got standard injectors from O’Reillys
I have a 2011. 2500 doing the same thing except there is a slight chirp in it also. It has 200k miles was driving and pulling excellent. Turned off getting off the highway at a stop light. Wasn’t pulling weight, and no previous symptoms what so ever, out of nowhere at the light started ruff idleling then shuts off.
The General I took it to the shop. They put a new starter in it, it started up but idles very nasty. My motor is shot, I spun a bearing. Fu$!&!)!$$$$$$! Yea so that’s that, I’m hoping insurance covers it.
Ed Gonzalez dang man, sorry to hear all that!! That is a downfall of owning diesels for sure. Everything is expensive. Well, i hope it all works out for you for sure bub. Sorry for my delayed response to you as well. Been trying to get things together for this potential hurricane situation!!
Fuel injectors go bad on these trucks every 150 or so. At least for me. Its because of poor fuel quality or DEF (a.k.a government cat piss) but just make sure to get it fixed asap because it can damage the Cat and the engine.
Well beings yours is not a common rail, im not sure that your issue is the same as mine. Mine was the #6 injector. I changed it, along with the fuel feed tube, and its been good ever since then.
Hey man I know this video was posted a while ago but my 2015 Cummins is making the same noise but it’s has nothing to do with the compressor going on and off, my started doing it on start ups (hot or cold) but would go away after 20 seconds but now it’s way worse (two days later) truck has 108k on it what ended up being the issue with yours?
Mine was #6 injector. You can either send it in and have them eectronicly shut each one off, or you can pull the valve cover off and unplug each one, one at a time and see if it eleminates the noise.
@@shugbe5477 I pulled the cover and checked everyone and 1 and 2 made a slight difference but not enough to say for sure it dosent idle rough but the weird thing is now that it dosent go away at idle if I get to about 1400 rpm it goes completely away
Why don't u use the diagnostic read out n watch what pressures those injectors r at. This could be a computer programing 4 that #6 injector. U will c what pressures at idle n inder load. Good luck.
@@Rocko1983ify i thought mine was in my drivetrain. I changed out my TQ and flexplate, but still had the noise. Ended up being my number 6 injector knocking.
I have an 06 ram 3500 srw. I had the same knock and could not find what was causing it. I was going Cuckoo! it was driving me mad. One day I decided to have another luck underneath and you won't believe what I found. It was a tiny Leprechaun with a tiny sledge hammer banging the side of the block! Caught the f*cker and flushed him down the toilet and the knock went away yeeehaw :D
