Review of the 2013 Rear Engine Snapper RE 100 7800918 model. Reviewed from both side with slight explanations. All metal construction. Well built! 20 inch turning radius. Most mowers in this class have a 30 inch cutting radiusThe RE-100, RE-110, RE 130, and the RE-210 have the same frame and chassy the only difference is the higher the model number, you get either a wider cut and more horsepower.

*My yard consists of roughly 3.5 acres of "mowable" area with several small hills **Bestfor.Garden** also recommend and valleys and tree-beds scattered throughout. Not only did the mower do a great job, but at the end of cutting the entire lawn, I STILL had 35% left on the battery.*

I’m not so sure I understand about the battery part. I had this snapper riding lawn mower for about three years and it was a great mower I ended up selling it and getting a cub cadet hydraulic mower. And I sold it and got it Ego self-propelled push lawnmower. So that’s where I’m at now

I have an original 70s model Snapper Comet! The old predecessor to the model in this video! Snappers are tough. I have also owned a commercial snapper zero turn. It was 9,000! Snapper is a great brand. Love all my Snapper products. Sorry the factory messed up a few on the comments section. This was a good video.

I have only used it once so far to cut the yard. I am happy the way it cuts. Not overly joyed where I am jumping up and down and not really sad where I want to bash the machine with sledge hammer. It cuts well, I am pleased.

Just got my second house and looking into a small riding mower. Don't think my reel mower will fit the bill for this house as the yard is quite a bit bigger! I'm looking at the RE130 2014 Model. I'm seeing some negatives in the comments of this video...and I'm not sure if this question is answered already through the comments, but can I be comfortable that Snapper may have fixed the battery issues with the 2014 model? What is your opinion?

There are some switches or wires to pull so you can get off the mower while it still is on, all you have to do is put on the parking brake.

I bought the RE-130 33 Inch 12.5 HP Model. It's a well built machine but was disappointed in some things with it. There are no notches to hold the speed handle in place. When you ride, the vibration and bumps force the speed handle forward and the mower keeps going faster. I have to hold the handle in place to keep the speed constant. When going fast and making a turn the front wheel lifts up like you are pulling a wheeley. The ride is HARD, you FEEL a bump when you hit one and you FEEL a hole when you hit one. It didn't handle high grass well and the engine started to stall. I had a 4 bladed mulching blade put on it and it wouldn't cut the grass until I lowered the deck to almost scraping the ground. The only really good thing was that it steered and turned very easily.

@windsurfed1 7 лет назад
Oh well, advice is good coming from experience. I maybe guess that since I alternate between a push mower and this snapper I haven't experienced any of the negative concerning this mower. So far it still is holding up well. I have a small yard and really don't need a riding mower, but I'm going to keep it because it hasn't given me any trouble, and I'm a riding mower foamer.

Don't know if the disk drive will last but knowing the snapper reputation, it probably will last longer than I will live. Don't know about the bagger part yet. When I made the video in april the bags weren't even available yet.
@windsurfed1
@windsurfed1 9 лет назад
Well, Thanks for the comments, However, The mower is still doing well in my book. I have the rear bag now and am well pleased how the whole unit comes off quickly if need be. Also am pleased how the bag detaches to empty the grass. It cuts very well and uniform at above 2.5 inches but below that it tends not to be a perfect cut at times. Without the bag, mowing, it tends to leave a mess of grass all over. With the bag, mowing, it leaves a beautiful lawn. With the bag unit, seems to be a bulky piece of equiptment. Still have some issues with the starter switch. After the new battery, which Help the issue, but didn't solve it, I replaced the switch. That worked for a while but didn't solve the problem totally, Still every once in a while, when turning the key, I get nothing but a click. Second attempt seems to work. However, it really should not be an issue at all but it still is. Overall, I still am happy with the overall performance of the mower and the quality of it all.

Ok, so I have My friend, a great small engine mechanic, come over to investigate the issue. After an hour or so of checking all swiches and the things that push them, and the starter relay, We pretty much traced it down to the starter. Looks like the issue is in the starter itself.

Ethan A: Actually I just sold it the other day for $1000. It looked brand spanking new when I sold it. I wanted a hydrostatic mower, and I found one. I bought a cub cadet cc 30H. it is approximately 32 inches wide total with bag. The snapper stuck out another 10 inches and I couldn’t get down one side of my house. The new one goes both sides. I was very happy with the snapper right up to the end but I just want a hydrostatic mower.

I see one of these used for sale except it's a 28" hydrostatic with a 15 HP Briggs for $650. In the pictures, it still looks new. I suspect the engine is not original because I never saw one of these available in a 15 HP and that seems like a lot of engine for a 28". I think $650 is way too much. What do you think is a fair offer price if it's in as good of shape as it appears in photos?

Yeah the hydrostatic option seems odd to me as well because it appears to end up functioning the same way with the sliding speed lever. Perhaps the 'clutch' pedal provides variable speed ontop of the speed lever.

Nice review. Im a huge Snapper fan. Would not own any other mower than a rer snapper. I grew up owning John deers and cub cadets mowing 4 acres. With all the belts and hard to work on it was awful. Something went wrong with other mowers your down hours. A snapper nope. Too easy to work on. Plus the disc drive gives you 2x the mowing power. I bought my first snapper 5 years ago and WOW im amazed. These things are a beast!! Ive never had to replace anything. Well built.
@windsurfed1
@windsurfed1 10 лет назад
I understand people have been having starting issues with this mower I likewise experienced this. You would go and trurnthe key and nothing would happen. Then you would turn the key off and turn it back on again and it might start. Sometimes you would have to go through this process several times before it would catch. I finally traced it down to a bad battery from the factory.Not before I suspected other things first. I replace the battery with a quality battery and have not had any starting issues since. Fires right up now. Hope this helps anyone>

+roy1795 I purchased a regular lawn mower battery from lowes and no it's not the same size. You will have to mod something to keep the battery from moving around. I own an re130 so i am sure there is not much difference. Briggs had changed the part number for my battery, so you will have to find the new part number on there web site and order the original from briggs if that is what you want.

Is there a way to make this road legal? Does the documentation or the chassis/engine mention a VIN number? Because here in the UK, as with some states in the US, you can register it. You can ride a mower with no limit on power from the age of 16 here, instead of 17, so it'd be great if I could fit an overkill powerplant in it
@ringoj6797
@ringoj6797 7 лет назад
Thanks for the video. It accomplishes its purpose in describing the mower. That said, I am very disappointed to see the changes in snapper's base riding mower. I have a 28inch snapper riding mower that is near 20 years old and still running. I can see the day that I will need to replace it and thought about another snapper. This one does not "cut it" for me. For one thing, I can tell that the new 100 will not stand on end will it? Being able to stand the snapper on end was a special snapper feature. I like that feature because I can access the mower blade. A dull blade will damage a lawn. The Briggs motor of the new 100 looks puny compared to my older snapper Briggs 10HP. My old snapper was powerful enough to cut heavy weeds and vegetation... not sure about this mower. The rear tires are grossly smaller too. I can imagine, as some have commented, that the mower will bottom-out in a ground depression. I also do not like the way the 100 has a shroud over the battery compartment... my battery is easily visible and accessible. Does the 100 have an alternator? My old snapper has a small alternator that keeps the battery charged. My pet-peeve of all riding mowers (including snapper) is that the maximum cut height is 4 inches.... some grasses (like my floratam lawn) does better when cut very high. Lastly, I notice snapper is maximizing profits by eliminating the mower deck anti-scalping wheels. Too bad! The auto safety shut off features I could live with. I know of children that have been mowed over (believe it or not) when an operator wasn't paying attention. And the engine shut off when out of the seat is also for safety but I could disconnect that if unwarranted. Overall, it looks it could be an adequate mower for a small, level, basic cookie-cutter home lawn, but I question its power and longevity especially if used to mow thick grass and large plots.
@windsurfed1
@windsurfed1 7 лет назад
No, it is not designed to stand on end. I would probably break my back trying to do that. The engine is rather small but supposedly still 10 hp. As for cutting, it boggs down really bad in higher thick grasses, to the point of killing the engine. Not sure about the alternator and it has no scalping wheels on the deck. I personally do not like the seat engine shut off feature but I live with it.Don't like the reverse switch either, but I live with it. Both are annoying. It is, in my book, adequate for my small, level, basic cookie cutter yard. It serves its purpose well. The thing is messy without a grass catcher of some sort. Excellent for picking up leaves/pine needles in the fall. My next rider will be one with hydrostatic drive.

Hi Ringo J, I purchased a new Snapper RE 110 28" 11.5 HP, 4 weeks ago. Compared to other RER's, I thought the Snapper was better quality. I also like the drive disk design. I also have Floratam grass and the first 2 times I cut the lawn, it performed terribly...not a nice look. I took a close look at the blade and there was no sharp edge....too much paint. I removed the blade and gave it a nice sharp edge and it made a huge improvement. I usually sharpen my blades every 2 months. Yes, the mower does have an alternator and the battery has easy access to remove/replace. It's under the seat and clearly visible with plenty of room. After looking at the rear design, I believe that Snapper rear bumpers could be installed to stand the mower up on its end. It would sure help when removing the blade and greasing the fittings. I have a photo of an early newly designed RE 110 that has the rear bumper stands, not sure if it's factory or owner installed. Also, eliminating the seat cut-off switch would be easy, but it's not an issue for me.
@slk230red
@slk230red 7 лет назад
Thanks Ringo, We've had our Floratam St. Augustine yard for 30 plus years and I also really like to keep a sharp blade. I was just surprised that Snapper would deliver a dull blade on a new RE 110 riding mower, no sharp edge and lots of paint. I have a company treat our lawn every other month....no weeds and it looks great, just have to cut it every 5 days now that the Florida rains have finally started.

@windsurfed1

The only thing I don't like is while its running, if you get off the seat the engine quits running. I like to get off my machine sometimes and maybe pick up something that might be in the way then get back on without the engine quitting. I know that's a safey feature but I don't like it. They other thing is it rides a little rough. My other riders rode rough also so maybe I am expecting too much from a 2013 rider. Those are the only 2 negative things I can think of. Otherwise it is GREAT!
@slk230red
@slk230red 7 лет назад
Thanks for posting the video, very helpful. Bypassing the seat switch should be pretty simple, I did it on my Murray rider. I'm considering purchasing a 2017 Snapper RE110 to replace my 31 year old Murray rear engine rider. The RE110 looks like the best option for rear engine riders, and it now comes with a 11.5 HP B&G. Other RER's I've looked at have too much plastic. I use my Murray year round, keep it garaged, wax it often, and keep it maintained...just time for a new toy.

I don't know, sounds like they are junk switches. Once you start to have issues it only gets worse. Just to correct a few things there are other differences in the models more than you are describing, and also the RE-100 model is a 10FT pounds of torque, it is not a 10HP engine, more like a 6-8HP engine. Other than that the RE-110 is the same as the 100 other than a larger engine. The RE-130 has a lager 32" deck rather than the 28" deck on the previous 2 models and a lager engine yet.

I think I bought a bike master battery. The battery work great for the first three weeks. During that time I did not have any issues Then the mower sat for three weeks. I got it out and it started right up. Turned it on several times within the next hour and everything worked fine. Then when I went to put it away I had that starting issue again. I believe the battery gets drained to a point where it does not have enough power to turn it over. Don't know for sure. This starting issue is getting to be a big thing. And yes it is starting to bother me. It's really a nice mower except for the starting issue. It's a communist plot to make us want to buy foreign products. P

So is this one. If they do not use plastic for components they use steel. The word "metal" is often used to represent steel. It's just another way of saying it. Do you not get that? I have a new RE210 made mostly from stamped steel parts. Guess what, your 30 y/o snapper RE whatever is also made from stamped steel.

i bought the same mower what a piece of junk now have it for sale after 3 uses and having my old snapper rider repaired

yup, I see the newer Snapper mowers being sold on Craigslist all the time because nobody likes them. The older Snappers get snatched up the same day, but the newer ones just sit.

@@nickdipaolofan5948 Yes, I purchased a gently used 2013 model 2800-950 looking like new and it cut twice and will not start or even click; I am a good mechanic, too.

@@TIMWILLIAMS29621 It is sad. I hope the new snappers built on the old design are just as nice as the old ones. There still looks like a lot of plastic on the engines though...

This seems like a waste of money. A 28 inch cut?? You might as well buy a push mower.

fuck that. A push mower doesn't have a beer holder.

They should have left the 50 year old Snapper RER design alone. This thing was designed for people with bony butts that complain about the old models. It is now built like an old Murray RER or Simplicity RER. Time will show that Snapper should have left things alone.

You were right. Snapper just went back to the old design.

Good ol' Briggs and Stratton. Misrepresenting engine horsepower. I have the mower, the engine is not a 10HP, but rather 10.00 ft lbs torque. If you look at the cc's, the motor is around 6 HP in reality. Unfortunately cuts like a 6 HP. Very under powered for a rider
@windsurfed1

It worked good for me. I have a flat yard. Small hp was great. I suppose if you have tall grass it would maybe an issue. Thank for the info.

Boy Briggs and Stratton ruined what once was a delightful machine! That thing doesnt hold a candle to my 1994 model snapper. Cheap no recoil backup cheap no footpads cheap tin fuel tank to rust and clog their cheap pot metal carburetor! but i bet the price tag is as big as ever!

if it cuts anything like my 2014 33inch cut. I bet you hate it by now. I have owned nothing but snapper sense 1974 but wont ever buy another one.

I just bought one and had 4 bladed mulching blade put on it and it would barely cut the grass and left small track of uncut grass on every pass.

I just fixed mine killed the warranty but they wouldn't fix it anyways. here what I did. I bought enough 5/16 round stock. bent it and welded it around the bottom of the deck on the outside. then I got under the mower and cut that damn lip off it and now it cuts great. be sure and put that rod around it or the deck will be to weak.
@Peter-pv8xx
@Peter-pv8xx 9 лет назад
glen john That's the dumbest thing that I ever heard, the lip on the deck is what makes Snappers the best bagging mower, it sounds like you just don't know how to cut grass. Now go ahead and curse me out.

Peter Matuszak not all of use have smooth flat lawns. and I tried a bagger it still sucked. but its better now and i'm now part of 1130 people maybe more now suing snapper to either replace the deck or buy the mower back. nothing may come out of it but I know 5 dealers just in my home town that dropped all snapper products. just because of this one mower. and I know one that has carried them sense the 60's.
