I'll respectively disagree somewhat that the chiefs hot start in 2013 seemingly came out of nowhere. While the Chiefs were 2-14 in 2012, they still sent 6 players to the pro bowl that year so they already had some good talent. Anyone who watched every chiefs game in 2012 would tell you all they needed was a quarterback who wasn't completely inept and a decent head coach. John Dorsey, Alex Smith and especially Andy Reid were a godsend for the Chiefs in 2013.
I feel as though this game was more indicative of what should have happened in the Super Bowl between Denver and Seattle. Kansas City's defense is almost IDENTICAL to Seattle's, and no, the Seahawks' wasn't better. This KC defense ranked 1 in almost every category throughout the year, played the exact same air-tight press-man coverage, bumping receivers at the line to force QB's to hold the ball, and easily had a better defensive line than Seattle. Yet the offense moved the ball to the tune of 27 and 35 points against KC. The Super Bowl really felt like a fluke. I bet if the game would have been replayed 10 times, Denver wins 8 of them. Just so happened their worst case scenario happened at the worst time, as both their offense and defensive lines got crushed inexplicably.
Uh yes, LOB was better than the Chiefs defense that year. I agree that Kansas had the better D line, but Seattle led the League in total pass yards allowed that season, average passing yards per game, opposing QB rating per game, takeaways, and had the number one scoring defense too, allowing about 14.4 points per game on average. I don’t know where you pulled that info from, but it’s false
Kansas did have the number one scoring defense to start the season, but at the end of the season, Seattle had the number one scoring defense. KC still had a amazing defense this season though. And I can even agree that if we played the super bowl 10 times, I doubt there would be very many blowouts, but Seattle was the more balanced team I think
If it wasn’t for that safety to start the game, it would’ve been a closer low scoring game. They never really recovered or got comfortable in that game.
I never understood why Manning's offensive line(s) in both Denver and Indy always got so much credit. "Manning barely gets hit or takes a sack!" Yeah, but that's only because he gets rid of the ball so quick. Watch pretty much every game he's ever played in the NFL. His linemen were always getting pushed backwards, beat around the edges, or sliced through on run plays. Jeff Saturday in particular spent most plays falling backwards. If Manning didn't have the quickest release ever, he would have gotten pancaked constantly.
Everyone knew the moment Manning left, Denver would go back to the bottom of the rankings. Almost surprised everyone with the 4-0 start after SB50....but they need a QB that can play. They might do well with Flacco coming to Denver
Carl Mack spoiler alert they didn’t do good with flacco. But might do good with that new young QB guess we will see I doubt it though. They hired a defensive coordinator as head coach
First big time prime time game in the Andy Reid era for the Chiefs (no I’m not counting his wk. 3 Thu. night return to Philly, the hype for this game was easily 10x bigger)
I said first BIGTIME prime time game. This was a divisional rivalry game between the #1 offense, #1 defense, and 2 teams with a combined record of 17-1... far bigger stakes than week 3 Thursday night.
Even with Peyton Manning and this much record setting talent, Adam Gase’s playcalling was still extremely vanilla and had nothing to do with their success. Predictable runs up the middle on 1st and 10 nearly every time for little gain, etc.
As a Seahawk fan I didn't pay much attention to the Broncos during the 2013 regular season, the Hawks were so good. I'm rewatching all the Broncos games from back then, and now I'm even more impressed with the Hawks and the Hawks defense! This Bronco team was unreal! They ate defenses up! In SuperBowl 48 the Broncos could do nothing against that Hawk defense! The Hawks made the best offense that ever was look like a 2A High School team! Best defense ever! GO HAWKS!!
