Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 reliability. Realistic driving experience from the average driver.
Hello Everyone I made this video in hopes to maybe fill you in with some info that might help you make a better decision in either purchasing a Jeep or deciding to fix it and just some things I have come across the way while fixing my car.
I do think the car is reliable considering the engine and transmission have not had any major issues. Just normal maintenance. Yes, there are a few things that I mentioned that are an annoyance in fixing but if that's all I have to fix after 6 years then I don't think that's much of a loss. The car now runs amazing after I fixed it.
Fixed in 2020
Thermostat (common issue to change 2-3 years)
Oil cooler/Assembly
Radiator
Motor mounts (a common issue with Jeeps, Durango, Trucks)
BREAKS.

I have a 2014 jeep, grand Cherokee, limited 4 x 4 with all the bells and whistles. it’s got 110,000 miles on it and it still purrs like a kitten, so yes, these cars are very reliable

A reliable car means everything works. Electric components work, engine works, transmission works, no leaks, suspension holds up, brake system, coolant system, etc. A reliable car means you don’t need to worry about the air conditioning not working, radio holds up, wireless charger holds up, everything holds up. IMO

@JustaShrimp372 Saw a 07 4 runner spin a bearing in 2014... The truck only had about 50k miles on it. (It was our managers fleet vehicle) It was well maintained. Inspected and oil checked weekly by me, and taken in regularly for Toyota reccomended service intervals, etc. There is no such animal as a 100% reliable vehicle. Nothing is completely gremlin proof.

It’s all about how you take care of your ride. Keep up with the oils changes, tire rotations, and other fluid changes and you’ll be good. Parts wear out over time on all vehicles. If you drive your ride hard and don’t keep up on the maintenance schedule, yes, eventually it’s going to have problems.

I have a 2014 grand cherokee with over 220,000 miles. Only thing I ever had to fix was a 15.00 thermostat, a serpentine belt, and a 35.00 blower motor. Super easy to fix. Still take it on really long road trips across the US. Still great fuel mileage, no leaks or anything and still runs super quiet. About to buy a newer grand cherokee and give this one to my son as a reliable vehicle. Its a flex fuel but we do not run E85 in it.

i just bought a 2014 with 196k miles on it.. for its age its one of the cleanest looking vehicles I have seen.. the previous owner must have garaged it most of the time.. Hoping i get at least another 100k out of it before I have to do anything with the engine or transmission.. driving great to me though.

I have 145,000 on my 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited and I can honestly say I had absolutely ZERO issues. I must of got lucky, exterior and interior has zero cracking, peeling, etc. and engine, transmission, coolant, etc again zero issues. I most of got the lucky one from the factory, when I read and watch people’s videos I wonder if it’s the owners driving habit and maintenance that causes the issues
@VehicleMods

Yeah I think it’s owners driving habits. Lack maintenance. Care. I know climate plays a role on some. But for the most part I think basic maintenance helps all.

My 14 GC overland heavy duty brakes lasted over 125k miles. Still had meat on them. Just changed the water pump and thermostat at 139k miles. Worst issue was the airs suspension started leaking. Ended up removing it myself and swapping to EMU coils and shocks. Then had the passenger side exhaust manifold bolts broken. Fixed that. Head unit started flipping out a couple years ago so I went aftermarket. It's never left me stranded. Will likely change the transmission fluid when it warms up again. Not 100% sure if I'm going to still road trip this car anymore more though. Curious to hear what parts others are replacing to be confident on long distance rides

So if the wipers stop working, AC stops blowing cold, or a whee falls off, that is reliable? How you defined reliability sounds like it was tailored specifically for a Jeep/Chrysler product.

This video helped a lot in deciding which car to go for. I definitely want the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee summit, but as it would be my first car that I make payments for. I don’t want to get a jeep that would cost me more than I can handle or can’t be able to last. I like going camping so it’s the best option. If y’all have any helpful tips or anything please let me know.

2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 25th anniversary. 53k miles, screen delaminating, check engine light (P0457) small evap leak not covered under powertrain warranty, and the leather on the dash is coming up. A bill of over $3k… other than that, great car!

Limited doesn’t come with leather dash. Only overland,summit,SRT and trackhawk. Also…there was no 25th anniversary edition in ANY year, 2016/2017 was 75th anniversary. Do your research before you decide to make negative comments. Your words are worthless.

@@palreem141 If you do your research, and I know what car I drive. You can see that in 2018 there is a "Sterling Edition" package available to the limited trim level. It includes dark gray lower bumper and side sill trim. Satin Chrome accents on the exterior and tow hooks, different interior trim including a leather dashboard. As well as a 25 badge where a normal limited would have limited spelled out.

I had the evap leak that kept coming back they changed o2 sensors under warranty. Claimed it was bad gas when it came back a again. Suggested fuel treatment, etc. I changed the evap sensor near the gas tank twice per their recommendation and it still Kept coming back. When I finally decide to change spark plugs one day. Around 90k miles. I was spinning my socket on the rear driver side plug. Bumped into a plastic hose and it just fell off. Turned out it was an evap line up front that had been cracked almost the whole time I had the truck. Swapped out for like $40 I think, never got another evap code. Shame the dealership never found this but I did he accident after 5 years. Also less likely to get a code on mid grade or premium gas only. But she will run fine on 87 from like BP, Shell or Exxon

The car needed new Engine cooler after 90.000 km , as well thermostat, It’s common to mix oil and water and this requires to flush all cooling system, The key system entry stoped working , key start to break and need new covers , xenon light keep needing replacement, you can’t upgrade the system of the android system out of agency as I have tried to find no one still doing the camera and Navigation upgrades Bushings keep needing to be replaced every while. As well the engine sound lifters in many cars seems noisy and irritating, ac compressor starts to fail and stop working completely need replacement, as well the door control buttons is very bad quality the tempt to break easy and you have to change the unit completely Not so expensive, Interiors easy to peel skin with small mistakes

It looks like for the most part you just got lucky with this vehicle. Specifically having a friend who’s a Chrysler technician. Imagine if you were out in the middle of nowhere off roading and you had that oil cooler issue.I’m gonna pass on this one.

What was the ride like when the motor mounts was bad that you knew? was the car shaking when you got to a certain speed or something?
@VehicleMods
@VehicleMods Год назад
Wel if I was at a dead stop and I would hit the gas you can feel a thump in the front of the engine. Another way you can kinda tell is if your just press on the breaks at a stop and quickly just slightly press on the gas while holding the break and you also feel something move. It’s better if you have someone help you out. This is common between these cars though. Just depends how you drive I suppose. The guy from the dealership told me you wil need to change usually around 70-100k miles more or less depending how you drive. But sometimes it will be fine. Also drive shaft can feel like loose motor mounts also so get second set of eyes.

So basically this shitbox is a moneypit, I mean engine mount, oilcooler and such crusial parts wear out on a 6 year old car? My Mercedes CLK270 or Audi A4 were in the same price range like a Jeep and I drove all of time up to 150.000 miles with sure repair of anything, my father owned a used 14.000 buck Grand Vitara put 150.000 miles on it and changed once the manual clutch for 500 bucks and these GM car are literally junk after 6 years?
@VehicleMods
@VehicleMods Год назад
No. I bought this car used. The previous owner didn’t take care of it much which is why I got a steal of a deal. Luckily my friend works at the dealership as a technician so I paid 50% or less of the normal price to fix which is why I got it. As far as reliability goes I had the same One before and I got up to 160k miles before I needed a battery and maybe a starter. I bought that one brand new. So I took care of it. But to answer your question this Jeep or the 3.6 engine is good. If you take care of it. I’m highlighting these issues to people amongst my other videos to help them save money should they run across these problems and not pay the stealerships. Obviously they can make their own decision if this is worth it but it brings awareness to what can and has gone wrong. I mean they can always get another car.

I love the comfort, style, and capability of my 2011 hemi grand Cherokee limited, however it is one of the least dependable vehicles I've ever owned and so incredibly expensive to repair!! I bought mine used with under 100,000 miles on it, and have only put 30,000 miles on it, and have already spent thousands in repairs, and that's just for parts because I'm a certified mechanic and do all the repairs myself. I just got through spending $500 for an overpriced alternator and less than a month later I'm looking at spending another thousand to replace the rear driveshaft. Definitely regretting buying a jeep, and as good as it looks, I have discovered that JEEP stands for JUNK, EVERY ENTIRE PART!!! I'm having to buy a second car for the main residence of having transportation to work because of the constant breakdowns of my jeep

Well I think mine was just the model that had the recall on the driver side head. Once that was fixed I have not had a issue since then. Thankfully it’s been a champ. And so far with flex fuel it’s been a life saver lately with these high gas prices

I love the way my 2012 Grand Cherokee drives, but it has needed stuff all along. Common issues to look for are oil filter housing leaks, ticking rockers and lifters, broken wires causing power option issues, and dual zone ac actuator, transmission pan leak, and the plastic thermostat, and don't get me started on evap / sensor check engine lights that started at higher miles. My 322k mile Toyota has gone years without needing repairs, can't say that about the WK2.
