www.autobytel.com/volkswagen/t... With the 2014 Volkswagen Touareg TDI you are getting something surprisingly special. This Crossover SUV looks surprisingly simple on the outside but under the hood, the Touareg is hiding a weapon. With a highway range of over 600 miles you can cruise comfortably. The Touareg is near Porsche Cayenne in terms of performance and luxury without the badges. The 2014 Touareg Diesel has a base price of $51,610 and the R-Line model reviewed here costs $58,190.
It should come as no surprise that Volkswagen is serious when it comes to bringing as many diesel powered vehicles to the U.S. as possible. And the biggest diesel of the lot is the 2014 Touareg TDI crossover SUV. When we are dealing with the Touareg we are looking at a vehicle that is handsome yet subtly so. With the R-Line model tested here, there are a few parts that kick things up a notch. Up front there is a more aggressive under spoiler, big 20-inch wheels, a sporty suspension, LED taillights, and revised rear bumper.
Under the hood lives the heart of this diesel SUV. The 3.0 liter turbo diesel V-6 engine is good for 240 horsepower and 406 lb-ft. of torque. This same engine is featured in the Audi Q5 diesel and the Porsche Cayenne Diesel so you can expect the same kind of performance figures. The transmission is an 8-speed automatic. Fuel economy is 20 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway.

Listed under similar models was a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I saw a diesel JGC on a nearby dealer's lot for $64,000. This guy mentioned a top of the line Touareg for $63,000. I have not driven one of these, but I'm thinking that the VW is much more likely a higher quality and more reliable car than the Jeep. A few years back, this car came with a V10 diesel. I'd like to see how the specs (including mileage) of that engine compared with this one. Nice video. Thank you.

+bianchi1885 i have two questions bro 1) do you like the quickness of this car? like if you need to suddenly go fast, will this car react quick? 2) what is the fuel consumption of this car in city? I wanna buy one of these too
@zoso73
@zoso73 8 лет назад
Plenty of pick up when you accelerate because of the torque. In the city I get about 20 to 22 mpg. Great engine.

What about the MPGs? A lot of car reviews leave that out even on the diesels which is there main attraction (with exception of the torque).

700+ miles one full tank, what i get from real life driving.
@Crazychicken224

I get around 1100km/tank (Approx 680 Miles) Of mixed city and highway driving. Diesel is cheaper to buy than Premium here in Canada... So it almost costs me the same to fill my Touareg (100L or 26 Gal) as it does to fill my Audi A4 (60L or 16Gal). I love my Touareg, very impressed with it.

djd324 You know, It is a funny thing, sometimes the Diesel here in U.S is cheaper than the Premium, sometimes not so

Started researching this since a friend of mine got the Passat TDI and when they told me they get 35/45 mpg I HAD to look into this but now that I see it only gets 20/29 mpg at $50K+ would you all recommend I still look into getting a used of this Toureg or go back to focusing my efforts on the 2015 Murano that is
@PIchillin456
@PIchillin456 9 лет назад
The Toureg is more upscale than the Murano and has a lot more torque. Not to mention the Murano also has a CVT transmission. That CVT is the best I've driven though. If you want power, torque, and class get the Toureg. Get the Murano if you want to save money.

@OptimaMrL

@1989rs500
@1989rs500 10 лет назад
They have lots of diesels in Europe although Fords diesels are shared with PSA Fords smallest car to biggest cars have diesels in Europe in fact European Fords more than 70% are diesels(TDCis), why the hell its not happening in America, Y does Ford always bow its head b4 Germans
@charles4hl

jandj Godwin Because the american market is not a big consumer of diesel engines. I'm also begging for more diesel engines, but ....we'll have to wait I guess.

The Touareg, Q7 and Cayenne all share the same platform and were designed at the same time so that all 3 manufacturers could share resources in designing similar SUVs targeting 3 different markets.

the Touareg is kind of an odd ball. the base model is great but jump to anything higher than the premium trim level and you could get a Porsche Cayenne for the same price. the VW is for someone who doesn't care about brand class.
@88cyrus88

Same prive for a cayenne? Lol! Please....
@zoso73
@zoso73 9 лет назад
You realize that the Porsche Cayenne you think you will get for the same price as a fully loaded T-Reg is a de-contented base Cayenne, that you will have to pay additional money to get the extras you want.

Q7 tdi starts at 53K. better buy a AUDI.
@Southerngravy50
@Southerngravy50 10 лет назад
Yeah but my Q7 TDI top out at almost 78K with S-line model and upgraded tune chip for the 295 HP and 457 ft lb torque. So for those who want the economy without the flash this is the route, I prefer my flash though.
@zoso73
@zoso73 9 лет назад
Not the same drive either. The Q7 is a bit heavier than the Touareg and not as sporty to drive.
@zoso73
@zoso73 9 лет назад
***** I ended up buying a Q7, so I have a 2015 Q7 TDI and a 2012 Touareg TDI. They're both excellent cars. The Touareg's torque is noticeably superior going up hills or ramps; the Q7's suspension is slightly firmer yet manages to drown out more road buzz that the TReg, making the Q7 a slightly sportier drive. The TReg's NAV system is superior to the Audi Q7's which really needs to be updated. The Audi Q7 has more comfortable seating. Pluses and minuses for each, bottom line buy the one you like and can afford. For the money, the Touareg is the better buy. And no matter what, BUY TDI!!!
@Southerngravy50
@Southerngravy50 9 лет назад
***** In the US we use ft lbs for torque and they both are rated the same here in the states since they share the same 3.0 TDI engine. Personally I've test driven the VW and ended up going with the Audi for better overall fit and finish. Now I am waiting on my preorder of something smaller but what I think will make a big splash soon, 2016 Lincoln MKX...

I wasted nearly 50kGBP on an R line 262 (2015) model, steer clear. Car dangerously coasts when stoping, Sat-Nav requires a paid for SIM service @ 20GBP/month, gears change pedestrianly slow & sunroof rattles. Was also ripped off by the VW Dealer with the service contract; bought a 4 year plan, was given a 2 year plan by VW and then they refused to acknowledge their mistake.

No not losing their minds just compare it to the Grand Cherokee diesel, competitively equipped it makes sense.
@bmwmsport11
@bmwmsport11 10 лет назад
i think the problem here is brand class. remember, this car is related to the Porsche Cayenne in the same way of how the Toyota Land Cruiser relates to the Lexus LX. if you want something subtle, but performs like a luxury SUV, this is the SUV for you. but i agree though, $60,000 is pushing the limits considering that the Touareg doesn't offer anything special for its vehicle class. its just a normal mid-sized SUV.

Tahoe's, Navigators, and Cadillac's are the same price and in some cases even more. The price is competitive with others in this luxo market.
@Southerngravy50
@Southerngravy50 10 лет назад
Not to mention outside the US this same vehicle come with many options the US market won't see for years. I have a 2013 Audi Q7 TDI S Line so I feel you when you say 60k is a lot for a VW but my 78k for my Audi was a lot but still had items missing on it that sold me over when I saw it in Japan. I still purchased it.
