Just wanted to say all the effort you put into these videos is excellent. Superb resource. Just changed my flywheel clutch and bearing as the bearing was making noises last few weeks. Used this video. The '12 V60 1.6D redesign is slightly different. Have to drop the subframe to get the gearbox out. The wishbone setup is slightly different than here. bit of a pain and the ground strap mount can cease as it shares a stud with another bolt. So ended up cutting it snip snip and redoing the terminal on the cable. I think the gearbox may be heavier too as it seems to have more bulk visually. Couldn't man handle it had to drop with motorcycle jack. The video was a gold mine. Thanks for the efforts.
as a mechanic working on all different car makers ,i really love this video ,you see clearly ,step by step ,very nice ...thanx ,saved me hours of work....:)
Fair play to you dude, it looks like a tedious job, but you are well capable of tackling this task. I’m impressed by your attention to detail and skill. I don’t think this is a job for the faint hearted and the gearbox looks quite heavy. Thanks for sharing this video with us all 👍
A very big thanks 😊 I needed to change a gearbox on the same model, I will never do that before watching you, all your tips maked it a lot easier ! Take care and thanks from France !
Hi that bolt at 10:56 is a pain in the... some of the psa 1.6 hdi engines have rounded bolts with torx or can't be removed until you loosen the gearbox. You did a nice job here Kevin. Keep up the good work!! Greetz from the Netherlands
Anymore thoughts about going self employed .. If you can do clutch onsite I can back you up with clutch work. A descent way to earn. Work less earn more .., Give it some thought williamsmechanic@gmail.com
the boffins at Volvo sure didn't skimp out on parts with that car, i think the tech guys who worked on the battery part must have worked for IKEA😂top quality as always Kevin👌👍
Bro that Milwaukee impact gun has done you proud 🤣 worth its weight in gold. I am a vw tech of coming up 10years now and own Milwaukee impacts best by a long shot. I also do a load of private jobs on the side. Finished a 09 A4 clutch on my back the other night love it. Watch all your videos bro you smash it everytime and also the variety of your clutch jobs gives me the knowledge I’ll need if I ever do any of these motors. Big fan mate 🤜🏻🤛🏻 how did you come into what your doing now bro. Thinking of going out on my own had enough of being main dealer now lol same door same faces lol
It’s just great doing a clutch on the floor ain’t it ..how did you get on with the A4.., was the the in-line gearbox ..,, .., not too much of a fan of them😆😁..,, Honestly I highly rate the Milwaukee.., I wouldn’t leave home without it .., Which dealership are you in .., I went through two main dealers and leaned a lot on the courses ....
I started doing weekends servicing .,, then moved onto timing belts only .., built a website and specialised in clutches and am always booked up 3-4 weeks in advance ... I’ve got enough work to for the both of us two weeks upfront ... where about’s are you ..
Kevin-Albert Williams I love the big jobs mate lol clutch’s, cambelts dirty big jobs you just zone in on lol I currently work for martins vw in farnham mate just finished qualify tech now working my way into the master tech role with VAG up in Milton Keynes the VAG group courses are very knowledgeable and I enjoy them Where are you based mate? Yeah the A4 was inline and I agree it wasn’t the greatest mate 😣
I’m about 30 mins from Milton Keynes .., I was at land rover stratstone Newport Parnell .. I took advantages of their advanced engine and transmission courses at their academy in Warwickshire .. I went up to level 3.. Very grateful for that. My advice is too always go on courses. . Good learning .. But being self employed is on a next level .. the network is better now. Financially outweighs being employed. which it boils down to when we surpass the age of 30..,
How many clutch do you typically change in a day it took me 5 hours to do my c30 including a full service while I was there I was bloody knackered after it to do it day in day out regardless of the weather you sir are a machine not an easy job while on the floor
30:15 By the life of this poor old me. I'll never understand why people don't change the crank seal. When it's right there and than. It's cheap, simple and quite easy. The idea of doing it all again one fine day. Because it start leaking... It would take an extra 5 minutes top! ;-) I've seen too many going back because of that. Than have to deal with a clutch drenched in oil! What a pain in the "back part". LOL 😂😂 Either case thumbs up for the well done video! Really tight spot.
I will change the dmf of my v60 on saturday. The seal just gets pulled out with a screwdriver or something? And pushed in by hand? Or is there something important to know?
Great job Kevin, fast and precise. i am preparing to do this on my volvo D2. Only thing i did not notice on this video is did you remove right side engine support or you leave it there and lower the engine as it is?
It was just AWESOME :) Respect to your professionalism. Quick question if I can. The tool which you've used to keep clutch units together to align perfectly before attaching to flywheel...what is this tool? Thanks in advance.
Excellent job, truly! Looked like you didn't touch any wheel aligmnet bolts or adjusters so I'm guessing a wheel alignment isn't neccesary after this job?
Hello my friend hope your keeping well 😊.. This one looked bit tight for space getting around the car but u still pulled it off nice going, if only there where more like u with the quality of work.. Untill the next video take care chum..
Hi John., thanks as always for the support .,, it was quite tight in that corner .,, reminded of my days as a cave diver .,, ✨✨🍻🍻.., hope you’re keeping well ..,
hi mate ! perfect job ! I have a mazda 2 2011,1.6 diesel same engine! how u change valvoline ( gearbox oil) ? do u recommend Luk or sachs clutch kit ? Perfect job!! thank u!! cheers from Greece!
Hi Kevin when you fitted the clutch plate i know there's a certain way they go gearbox side etc, checked my clutch plate and the gearbox side is the flat end on my Sachs and your plate is opposite?. I have a real heavy clutch pedal and 1st gear is a nightmare even after bleeding several times.. thanks in advance
Hey Kevin-Albert, this is by far one of the most helpful videos on yt for Volvo V40s! Also, I have a question for you/everyone in the comments. I was wondering if you guys know the specific name/OEM number for the transmission mount that is being installed in 44:46? I would really appreciate it if anyone could please let me know, many thanks in advance!
DJR .., in the case of rear main seal if its leaking I will always clean and silicone gasket it back up.., works just as good as the real thing ... I never machine any parts. Always replace., i have very up to date software that is linked to DVLA/Euro Car Parts and Autodata.., so I always know everything about my repair/parts before I actually tackle it ..,
Hey Kevin, another great video. Just curious as to why you only use the Luk clutch kits? (Though in this video you used the Sachs clutch and pressure plate) Would like to see a video on clutch replacement for Peugeot 4007, 2.2 HDi Diesel. It's way past my bedtime... 😴🤣💯👏
Hey Stephen .., I Use LUK. SACHS and Valeo as they are the original fitted for most European cars. Exedy and Aisin for Far East cars as they are the original for that market. With this one that’s what the manufacturer recommended and that what was in the car .. I always tend to replace like for likes .. for keep in mind the 4007.., hope you’re keeping well and thanks for the support ...
For this particular vehicle the customer does towing. So I combined the best parts for that purpose.,, it came to a bit more in cost but for a daily car I would have used a LUK kit.
@@WMCS I'm thinking about changing the clutch. Same engine as here, but I don't know what to use, Luk or Sachs complete kit? What do you think? Thank you.
Thank you for video, I'm using the video to do the same job on my car. I saw that you mounted the dmf flywheel with the reference hole aligned with the hole on the crankshaft. Is it a coincidence or should it be mounted like this? Thanks Enrico
Not a coincidence. That’s where it needs to be. As it’s a reference for the crank sensor. Otherwise if not aligned vehicle will have a permanent misfire
This particular model. Very highly rated. It’s the same engine/gearbox in all the Ford 1.6 in the Mini Cooper and all the French cars … it’s been in use for over 15 years with minimal change those engines /gearbox.
Hey Gazza .., great to hear from you .., most car nowadays store the radio code ., a few had to be left to customer to get it from their dealership..😬., I normally ring in their behalf ., keeps everyone happy. I’m quite strict with keys and observe social distancing., hope you’re keeping well and safe too during those strange times.
It doesn’t disintegrate over time .,, and will stop any oxidisation from the bolts into the threads ... that white powdery stuff that seizes bolts ... and on the spline will stop the dry rust.,, which a lot of the time binds the clutch plate and causes premature clutch wear ...
Hi mate. Why have you fit DMF Luk with Sachs clutch kit? I heard something as Luk Dmf must be fitted only with Luk clutch kit and and the Dmf must be fitted/setted with a special tool and Sachs dmf can be fitted with different flywheel brand .
Yes, gsf agree with what I said but only on some Vag cars. Where are you based mate? As mine just been changed and the Dmf is noisy ( full cluch including master Luk )... trying to understand whats wrong.
@@WMCS Somewhere, on a planet in a far flung star system on the other side of the universe, a gardener is growing flowers .... In a Snap-On Roller Cabinet....
That is the one .., with the famous turbo 😁😆.., after you replace the turbo you realise all the metal filings has damaged the big big end bearings and oil pump .., 😁😁..,
@@WMCS i remember reading about a taxi firm somewhere that had 12 Picassos which had the first version of the 1.6 hdi. ( so we're talking 2006/7) and seven cars were off the road with wrecked cranks after turbo failures.
It think it’s been rectified on the newer ones. I stripped one down and the impeller bearing was melted. It looked like it couldn’t handle the heat .., which is what turbo pretty much lives on.
Only on the double cam shaft D4164T was the issue on, the D4162T is a decent engine, single cam shaft, mine has 200K miles. Issue was also generated by a filter mesh that was on the oil banjo bolt which was getting clogged and starving the turbo from any cooling, therefore the fails. I know it`s a old video but in case you see the comment, Kevin, do you work with parts provided by the client?
gonna change clutch and slave cylinder on my v70 2.0d 2008 tomorrow, and i guess its pretty much the same process as on and 1.6? and do i have to drain the pil from the gearbox before taking it down? used to work on older rwd cars, sooo yeah
