Hi. Thank you for the video. Very good explanation and easy to follow. I watched the other of How to replace the compressor belt. And watched this one after I finished replacing the compressor. My compressor won’t start. I didn’t add oil, but it won’t even engage the clutch. Looks like is not getting power to it, or if there is switch or something that needs to be reset. The old one was engaging, but not compressing. But the new one won’t even try to start.
Thank you very much. My refrigerant jar was almost empty and only put 110 psig in the system. Looks like this wasn’t enough pressure to activate the switch. I used a new jar and was able to get over 120 psig. The compressor started and it’s running like a champ. Thank again. I will subscribe to your channel.
I had a leak on the discharge line that goes from the compressor to the condenser. I when to the dealership to buy it, and they told me it was a common problem. They normally recommend to replace it with the compressor and they always have in stock.
I have a 2014 silverado and the ac compressor runs but doesn't seem to pump the freon around. Pressure on the low side is greater than high side which is odd. And... the cooling fans does not turn on when I turn the ac on inside the cabin. Fans work fine to cool the engine but not turning on for the ac. I unpluged the Pressure sensor and fans kick high speed. Any thoughts?
I put a Murray compressor on mine two years ago. It made a whining noise that got louder with the rpm of the motor and it immediately failed within a few days. Took it back to O’riely’s and the replacement did the same thing. Took that one back and they replaced it again and now that one was locked up. All three made the same whining noise. Im not impressed with Murray compressors. This one at least lasted almost two years but the whining noise is too much. I’m going back to an AC Delco. It might cost a couple dollars more but if it runs more quietly, I’m ok with it.
Mine was making a rattling sound and today I heard the belt squealing and shut off AC. How do you know if it's the compressor or the clutch? Can the clutch seize up and stop the belt from moving or is it most likely the compressor? Do you have to replace the drier at the same time? Searching online for the drier and not getting any results. 2015 GMC SIerra All Terrain 5.3 flex. 189K
Sometimes it can be pretty hard to tell, if you are lucky it's just the clutch because that won't contaminate the rest of the system if it goes out, to be safe I would get the compressor replaced as soon as possible with a new not rebuilt compressor.
These Gm compressors have a plug on the case towards the front. 4seasons/Murray says they put 3 ounces in the compressor. I've measured anywhere between 1.5 and 4 ounces of oil in these things. 2014 only gets 3.4 ounces.(total oil charge) I believe 2015 is the same. These compressors self destruct fairly regular. GM knows it, doesn't care. (I install the belts kinda the same way you do.) I made a tool to get to those hoses. Quarter drive socket like yours seems to work best. Best Wishes.
Nice video. Do you recommend changing the condenser at the same time as the compressor? I know some people say if the compressor froze up you end up with debris in the condenser.
Dang, I was sure fixing a freon issue was as easy as finding a leak, sealing it, and adding freon, but too many other things can be wrong and I need to add oil to compressor because I was told it would leak with freon, and then I need to create a vacuum but don't know how. Sigh.... Guess I am paying somebody to do this. I can do the leak fix but the rest is very touchy for me.
It's hard to say, depends on the type of compressor they used new or rebuilt, aftermarket or oem etc. Now a days it seems like everything is super expensive
