A.I. is doing better at hiding videos from people who are looking for great fixes like this. Looks like your vid slipped through the cracks. Great vid.
Exactly what was wrong with mine. Mechanic told me it was the rack and pinion. $58 belt on Amazon versus about $2000 in used parts and labor. Thanks bud. Owe you a beer or twenty!!
DUDE!! You are awesome! Popped that housing and that belt was shredded. Great instructions. This really is a simple fix for the average mechanic. Thank you so much!
my f150 2017 5.0, I have a problem with it, I have play in the steering, the steering wheel is not well centered and when I go on the road I feel the play in the steering wheel and it does not have much stability, when I go on uneven roads it has a knocking and it I feel it on the steering wheel, I already took it to the aligner to check all the parts and they told me that everything is in order that what doesn't work is the steering, for me when I turn or move the steering wheel from one side to the other it doesn't get hard or I hear no type of noise, only the play in the steering wheel. What I do notice is that the steering column has play. Anyone who can help me would greatly appreciate it.
Hey man, first of all thanks a lot for this video mine has the same issue I’m at the part to put everything back on but the scary part is the tensioner does the belt has to be super tight ?
@@jankosgarage yes the belt wasn’t bad broke but it was worn badly and i replaced it but still have all the lights on and it won’t let me clear nun of the codes it’s throwing and every code it’s throwing is more than likely being thrown cz something messed up but iv tried everything i can think of and i’m in desperate need of help
@@claygreen5578 may need a scanner or forcan to see your steering angle. If not the truck wont know how much to turn the wheels. I wish you luck. GOBBL3SS
@@joshuamartinof7523 it was at all speeds. I replaced the belt, blew it in 3 weeks. Replaced it again with a different version and it has been good since. Make sure you get it tight enough or it’ll slip.
my has the same problem. Got my rack replaced and it worked for a week then stopped working. took it back for them to recalibrate it and it worked again and about 5 days later stopped again. Not sure what to do now
Hey man. So my 17 (61k miles) doesn't have the code. But recently my steering is acting up. Stiff at times then feels slipping sometimes then perfectly fine. My question is how was your acting? Try to diagnose whether it’s the vet or my system is dying
Yes mine did exactly that. Felt like the steering shaft ujoint was binding up. You should be able to just unscrew the cover and slide back the boot to inspect yours.
This video just saved me some $$$. This happened to my sons used truck. I could tell right away when I looked at the cv boot clamp that someone had been in there before. Belt was fried!
By any chance, before you lost all power steering, did you hear a whining sound while driving like in the older models. I've noticed my starts to whine after the power steering fluid is hot and at highway speeds in long curves. Though it was wheel bearings , it's not it. Tested the vacuum lines, and those are good too. Thanks for the video in advance. This will be my next option.
@@Justbutch these do not have any hydraulic fluid, there is also no pump to whine. Sounds like you may have a bad wheel bearing depending on which way your turning and it begins to whine.
@jankosgarage I thought so too. Bearings are good. Nothing loose. Maybe it all in my head...lol. I'll keep you posted when I take the tie rod out and have a look. Thanks man!
