2015 Star V Star 1300 Deluxe Motorcycle Review

This mid sized cruiser from Yamaha under the star brand might be the oldest platform they are currently selling. It feels dated, with just a couple seemingly modern touches added but they don't blend very well. Power wise it's hard to justify the performance to the cost especially since there's little else to the bike other than the basics.

Not really an accurate review. Yamaha makes awesome cruisers and most reliable at great price
@Constantstate

Ya, lots of misinformation and poor understanding of the market segment. Also, he compares the 80 CID engine's power and says " not comparable to a Harley 110" ... well duh! And it has no cruise, that's a volume control. It's a great bike for 60% of the money of an HD.

I believe the cruise control you refer to is actually the controls for the audio system when you have it connected to your phone or mp3 player.

correct; no stock cruise control. Those are audio controls if you hook your iPhone up to the audio system

A couple of points. This is NOT Yamaha's answer to Harley's big tourers. That would be the Star Venture. This is meant to be a mid-size tourer. Also, their power band is much wider than you were using so it seemed to lack power. It would smoke a Sportster 1200. I do appreciate your straight-forward take on the bike though.
@twardsmith
@twardsmith 8 лет назад
The 1300 is designed to rev. It's a short stroke motor. If you short shift it will vibrate and lag. If you Rev it out it really moves for the type of bike it is. When I had mine I never changed into 5th until at least 80km/h (50mp/h). It just isn't designed to be a low revving torque motor like a Harley.

I owned a 2008 v star 1300. I loved it and I miss it. Rides great, hauls ass, and had great lean angle. Rode the hell out of the Twisted Sisters here in the Texas hill country. This guy has no clue what he’s doing🤣

I purchased this model and I am very happy the transmission is geared high I can ride around town all day in 4th gear with plenty of go power acceleration is good. one thing that the guys said that I have to agree with is no engine breaking but that goes along with high gear ratio on a scale of 1-10 I would give this bike an 8

Just bought 2014 vstar 1300 touring new got a great deal. It didn't take long to realize this bike seems to be high geared. I understand where some of your comments are coming from about the power just have to rev out it a little more. Getting used to different shift points.Fith gear for 70 plus mph only it is smooth as silk at 85-90, purrs like a kitten. To sum it up the bike has great power , just needs more revs than most v-twins. Handles very easy I had a much lighter bike no problems making adjustment.

What? 5th gear at 45mph... that's just about 70km/h, 5th is to be considered an overdrive, maybe you can consider using it to maintaining speed at 80 km/h. I love the gear ratio on this bike. This guy must have been paid to hate on this bike?

@raymondblanco9219
@raymondblanco9219 8 лет назад
Angel the V star 1300 is an awesome bike, I have rode a lot of different bikes from can ams to new Honda's and many other brands I even considered a couple of Harley's before i chose my first ever Yamaha I;ve always been partial to gold wings but for the money and cost of maintenance I chose the Yamaha v star over everything else I tried. It really comes down to what you want from a bike personally I like cruiser others love sports bikes for speed, I'd rather have comfort and speed which I get easily from my Vstar 1300 at 712 lbs even though the seats on Gold wings are a lot more comfortable the weight they have is something to consider one major problem I personally have with the gold wings are that they have very limited foot room I wear size 13 boots and sometimes I can't even find the foot brake on the gold wing. So you should really go to every dealership in your area and test drive all the bikes you think you would like then make a decision for me it just took one test drive of the V Star 1300 deluxe to know I loved the feel, comfort and power it provides and sure there are much faster bikes and if it weren't for the $6,000 difference I might have bought the Stratoliner with 113ci engine that's 1854cc's but everybody has different likes when it comes to what you ride so go try all that you can then decide and good luck.;

I think the only bike I've seen him like is his fjr1300 and everything is compared to that .I've owned a 1300 v star for12 years if you know how to ride it hauls ass for a cruiser to compare it to a 1200 which I've also owned a sportster is hilarious the sporty is running hard at 70 in top gear my yamaha you don't even shift to 5th gear till about60 or even 70 mph

Same here, owned it for 7 years. It's a bit of a learning curve gear wise, as it prefers higher revs, rather than short changing and lugging it. Loads of power if you know what your doing.

@Nickel8237 8 лет назад
+Ned Miller It was, but I believe they discontinued it. The newest you will find on their website is n.o.s. 2014's. I had a 2006 Stratoliner. I loved the way it handled and the torque. But it had so many issues, I got rid of it in 2009. Maybe they were all problematic and that is why they dropped the line...

Not true at all - I point out the good and bad about every bike I review. Lots of great choices out there, it all depends on what you like and most importantly your budget. Quality wise Indian and Harley both have some great models on the high side. The basic models, much less so. For a basic ride with great power and quality look to the M109 and Raider/Stryker series.

@Sig721Tau

You don't need a Tachometer on cruisers. There's a reason why crotch rockets (sport bikes) have them and not the average standard bike (cruisers). Also, you might want to slow down when driving over speed bumps. Smh..

I own a v-star 1300 2015 model and I would have to agree with a lot of your comments about this bike. For me the biggest disappointment is the engine and how they have geared it. It’s low rev torque is very poor and is the revs climb it becomes very rough. There is torque in the medium to high revs but it becomes so rough that you feel like you are damaging the engine. There is a sweet spot between low and high revs which is very smooth but the range of this sweet spot in my opinion is way too short as it forces you to drive it like a big engined low reving car. A lot of people have said to me that this is typical of the cruiser but I wonder why a cruiser has to have such a limitation . It is certainly much more pleasant to ride on country roads and a very comfortable riding position and seat but in the city the gearing is very tall and for many tighter corners you have to change to first gear so as not to scrape the floor boards. The 2nd gear sweet spot is 28 to 45 miles per hour. In my opinion that rev range is not good enough for any decent motorcycle.

Thanks for the great review. Saved me from getting a pig with bunch of lipstick on it. It's just your basic yamaha cruiser with a bat wing and a gps unit and it want's you to think it plays in the same league with all the big baggers. Doesn't even have a fuel gauge or ABS. Doesn't cost as much a Harley either, but it also cost a lot more than a similar sized metric cruiser without the gps.
