Get a Chinese manufacturered Water Pump. They are cheaper and much more efficient than the European make. You get it from independent VW spares dealers from around R2.5k to R3k. But their lifespan is short at around 2-3 years and carry no warranty. For me it's better than the ±R5k authorized dealer water pump that will still break anyway. As for VW they quoted me R6.8k for a water pump. I've had the Chinese water pump for over a year now.
I have this, 2015 Polo GTI DSG bought with 62 000km for R321k.....they are really expensive and the clean ones are even more expensive. I am now on 90 000km with no issues at all just pure fun, i do have aftermarket warranty. People should not buy this car with understanding the problems it comes with. If you have a DSG box remember its a dry clutch and not wet so do not go abusing it with using the manual shifts at every chance you have, if pushing the car let it change from 1, 2 then 3rd gear you can use paddles. Also if you have a DSG leave the car stock, do not modify it as the dry clutch can only handle 250Nm above that you asking for problems. Hence DSG has 250Nm instead of the 320Nm on the manual, dry clutch. Please do not try to launch it, AKHEKHO ULAUNCH CONTROL KWI DRY CLUTCH, you just burning your clutches
I bought mine in January 2020 for 189k paying R3800 per month, mileage was 126k at that time, since then the car behaved for a year an half 😂😂then issues started showing up, like i first changed megatron for 18k and added a new clutch for 26k, luckily those were covered by the extended warranty, then 8 months down like i had to change the whole gearbox n I got an imported one for 20k, and while they were working of that gearbox my steering rack broke n I got one for polo vivo for R3800 coz original one cost 30k at VW, and timing chain issues as well which cost me about 7k for parts and works and then 2 months later I had to change water pump for around 4k, esh I love this car but it has impoverished me lol
Here is my take on what you said Muzi 1. Overheating comes from failed water pump. 2. Oil is not an issue in this car from 2013 Polo GTI 1.4 (6R) to 2017 Polo GTI 1.8 (6C) 3. Armrest yes I agree it breaks easily. 4. Sunroof doesn't leak at all guys that's not true. Note: The entire engine uses water so water pump is bound to fail at some point. The water pump last for 2 to 3 years on used GTI's and it's about R4000 in Joburg. People confuses me when they say don't buy a used GTI because it has been overused or abused. I own the same car but 2017 model, bought it from 2019. I have changed the water pump already which I agree it is the common problem. Other than water pump the car is perfect. I used to own 2013 Polo GTI 1.4 nayo it did not give me problems other than water pump. For me the car is reliable. My take on owning a GTI take of it and it will take care of you.
@@twentyfifty2050 Not true at all my brother 😂😂, the sunroof I heard that tends to leak is the one like BMW the one that goes inside and slide back. Not VW and Audi 😂😂
The pricing of cars in general is crazy. In 2016 my polo 6c gti was valued at 345k brand new and I was paying roughly 4.5k installments with a minimal 80k deposit. Maybe if we all just avoid buying cars for the next 5 years the dealerships would lower their prices 😅
hai wena they robbed you daylight my bra😂😂🙆🏻♂️these cars are roughly 250k-300k on VW website, i once saw a 2015 one with only 120k kilos for R289k, don’t check for cars at local shops you’ll catch yourself buying an expensive car
Bought my wife the 2017 polo gti from the box in 2017. The car has about 140000km on the clock now. Always renewed the warranty, that's key however the car has not had any issues with engine, clutch or gearbox. I drive it from time to time and ya it moves. I think the fact that my wife drives it mostly is the reason why the car is still good as new. I have been trying to trade it in and dealerships outside VW are offering R200k. VW has offered me R250k trade in if I take the 2023 polo gti but that is R570k which is alot of money today for a small car. Its definitely an amazing car if taken care of. But that 60000km service plan is unforgivable at the price. But I have avoided the huge service costs by taking a plan with specific VW dealership, paying R16000 for 6 services upfront. I will be switching to Lexus soon so I can get piece of mind and a longer 7 year maintenance plan. Great review nonetheless and keep up the good work.
Mine (1.2 Highline DSG) packed up in 2019 at 123 000 km. It has packed up again last week at 230 000 km. Mechatronics is a serious problem on these cars yerrrr!
@@vumbhonishandlale46It’s a serious issue for real mine packed again 3 months ago and I had to pay 33k to fix it. I own the car now and I don’t want to get rid of it cause getting a new one is expensive these days. I’m advised we are not looking after these boxes they have a service of their own, this is what the workshop said. “We recommend servicing your cars automatic or DSG gearbox every 4 years or 60 000km, whichever comes first. Where the gearbox oil filter or oil strainer sits outside of the gearbox, it is advisable to replace these with the gearbox oil.”
I bought mine in 2021 and it had mechatronic issues and I took it to a VW dealership to fix the issue and I was charged 54k (including labour) 😢. Everything is fine now, I enjoy driving it and I'm planning to keep it! Regardless of the issues it might have 😂😅 ngiyofela khona empini!
I had a mechatronic issues on my VW Mk6 Jetta costed 35k to replace the whole unit drives like a dream now had the car since 2012 no issues whatsoever since the DSG issue
had mine since 2018 sold it as 248k km , its a very good car an cheaper to maintain if you have warranty but the cooling system is net Kak..changed 4 water pumps in less than a year
Best GTI ever but I had my fair share of bad experience with VW. My first VW was a Polo Vivo 2013 model that I bought in 2015 then later upgraded with Polo 6 in 2016. I regretted letting go of the Polo Vivo because the Polo 6 showed me flames from water pump issues, thermostat and the steering rack giving me problems. After fixing the Polo 6 then I went for 2016 Ford Fiesta Trend. Never had issues till I sold it in 2020 when I traded in with 2020 Model VW Polo TSI 1.0 which is currently giving me problems with water pump.
I’m currently driving a 6C TSI and as soon as I start working I’m buying this car😭🙌🏽For me it’s a perfect Polo till date, the AW can’t do it like this Polo.
I've had my 2017 6C for about two years now. Water pump replacement and a gearbox fix were both covered under warranty because the previous owner was a top G who got an extended 5-year warranty on the car. It has since lapsed, so wish me luck. Just went to Stage 1 ECU tune, which unlocked a ridiculous amount of additional power, and I am loving the driving experience. Exhaust is a bit boring, that'll be the next improvement.
@colinwordley4369 what happened to urs, mine got written off coz some jerk couldn't interpret road markings....my insurance wanted to get me another one, but I was fixated on the golf 7.5 gti, if only I had taken their offer.
Bought mine 2019 and it's 2017 model with 45000km till this day she's running smooth. But it's true about the armrest. And yeah I also changed the water pump lol. But in a nutshell, this car is a charm man, love it like I bought yesterday. It's a pocket rocket👌
I have a Polo 6R GTi 2013 Model. Bought it at 222 000km for about R150 000 under private sale. It had an almost full service record (1 service missed). The reason I went to for it is because I noticed it already had a Mechatronic, Clutch and Timing chain replacement at 120 000km done by VW under warranty. So I thought to myself, this is a bargain 😢. The only thing I ever changed with my money was the water pump which died literally two months after taking ownership 😂. After that I immediately put it under warranty. It's been two years and I haven't experienced any real or costly problems ever since (except for potholes and new tyres/control arms every once in a while). It does however chow a lot of oil, so for that I do an oil change service every 10 000km instead of the manufacturer advised 15 000km interval. I've put only a down pipe for better exhaust sound, the car is still factory spec, however I am flirting with the idea of stage 2 right now 🙈.
@cozy4446 All the warranty work done on the Car so far was done by VW/Manufacturer warranty before it expired. I'm currently using Motovaps (Mutual&Federal). Paying R434 p/m for a R40 000 engine cover and R20 000 cover for other mechinical components. I have not claimed anything from them since the car never gave me issues since the VW warranty work.
@@Sly_212for how much is the gearbox and a mechatronics covered? I'm asking because the mechatronics unit is around R40k alone, clutch pack around R20k to replace.
Be prepare to change water pump 🙆🏾 If you’re owning this car ,the best thing that you can do is to extend the warranty of the car to avoid over spending .
My advice is just to emphasize on doing your homework on the aftermarket warranty that would pay out, say, more than R40k on a gearbox and engine failure separately. A service is more or less the same as other car except that there's a dsg service tbat also needs to be done.
Not a fan of polo so I wouldn't buy either. Btw please review the Suzuki Jimny if you can get one. Genuinely considering buying one and you're the only reviewer who brings up good points other reviewers either ignore or forget to cover in their reviews.
Heita Doc I've got a friend of mine who's got the 2017 Polo gti 6 speed manual and his also in the medical field his currently selling me his polo for R150k with 117km on the clock... by the look of things its a great deal... service his is on Point care has been taken good care off😊
I had a 2016 model and traded it for the AW in 2021. The 6c was good to me but i can relate on the issue of the centre arm rest, water pump and thermostat had to be replaced luckily i had an extended maintenance plan. It used to also give s notification of “move gear lever position from P” where as i was driving. Vw failed to fix this numerous times. I can also relate on the high oil consumption. I traded it at 120 000km
@@LeaderMOgane so far so good…although it randomly shows a notification sometimes of an issue with front sensors. Oh also the 6c the radio would sometimes go off unprovoked
A lot of good dealerships take cars in for detailing before putting them on the showroom floor, which is my suspicion of why the paint looks immaculate. Detailing the body of the care will generally remove a lot of surface scratches, decontaminate and revive the brightness of the paint. Also looks like the previous owner took good care of it.
You’re right about the water pump. I have a Polo R line AW. The water pump broke just before the the warranty ended luckily. Other than that, great car, no problems 120000km’s later. I take lots of care of my car, I have too much mechanical sympathy.
@@MarksManI mine was fixed under warranty. But on that bill if I remember correctly, it said 6k. But other than that, reliable little engine as long as you take care of it.
All the mechanical issues which people are talking about I've never heard about them. I've been driving a Polo for 9yrs, the Polo 6 from 2014 to 2018, which I traded it in for the 2018 1.0 DSG (brand new) and 1130000km later I am still to experience issues.
Paying R2,4 for insurance because I'm under 24 years and got it as a second hand at about 120k kms And for Gas I'm paying around R2k a month it's not my daily Use renualt kwid for my daily drives
Broe these things can go as high as 230kw when you remap them 🥵🥵🥵 these things are beasts would definitely be a good buy if you planning to have it for sometime
I had a problem with the radiator and back radiator that had to be replaced at 14k excluding labour. What followed after it was installed I had a water pump issue with my 2017 Polo R line at a cost of 8k excluding labour.
I need to downgrade soon from my Polo AW Highline 2018, Pale copper. The family is growing and the finance department is over burdened 😟I'll have to look for reliable and affordable car in the very near future. Just makes me sad seeing all the features I'll be losing when I sell my car.
These are nice pocket rockets and very light on fuel, mine is on 178k and I have replaced my clutches twice, mechatronics once, waterpump and every 2nd service have to replace coil packs, like you mentioned Muzi don't buy it if it will be your only car ,but it'd a person choice but that's non of our business how people spend their money
The love i have for this car in reef blue is unmatched, problems of nie problems am still going to buy one😂 my mechanic "who works under a tree" constantly works on these cars and the AWs so i need to build good relations with that morena😅
Wow it's funny , I got it at 57000km, it's now on 123000km I replaced the mechatronics and clutch kit costing R28k and R18k but all in all I will get another 60,000kms after this in all honesty this car I will keep it's going to be scarce in the near future like our forefathers loved the 325is😂
Honestly speaking the ea889 gen3 engine is a fairly strong engine if it maintained well the only downfall with this engine is the thermostat housing and water pump also the dq200 gearbox is nonsense if it’s not mechatronic it’s the clutches but honestly speaking it’s a fairly good car.Put a Downpipe and stage 2 software you’ll really enjoy the car.
I own a RMI approved workshop i always advice my client to join extended mechanical warranty to save your selves from those unplanned and unexpected breakdowns l.
I owned this car for almost 5 years and had none of the so called “famous failure” 🤔. Take it from someone who owned and lived with the car it was a dream. Only thing i didnt like was firm suspension and boot which was smaller than a normal polo. Dont listen to the negativity. Its a brilliant efficient car and subjectively looks better than newer versions. Warranty is really not an issues in this day and age- use companies like Motorhappy for service and warranty💁🏽♂️ cheap and covers the car comprehensively. Dont let peoples negative experiences and hearsay deter u😊. If u love the car go for it
I had this car, the 1.4tsi. The only issue about this car is the gearbox. Mine was changed at 80000km luckily for me this was under Motorplan. It’s a great all rounder and the fuel economy is not bad but gearbox is a big problem and is very expensive to replace. Mine costs about R80k back in 2017
Apparently at every 60000ks one needs to service their gearbox because the oil in there tends to be thinner and that puts a strain on the gearbox and it ends up breaking.
To me this is the best polo model, even the GTi i own a 2015 polo tsi comfortline with that gti spec, currently 280k mileage i bought it for 240k with 31k on the clock, 8 years now, i changed clutch recently and water pump an thermostat but the electronic errors are now showing me flames🔥, wiper sensors error, headlight control error, im thinking of the WA but ai financing a car now in this interest rates i rather fix this one an take if for panel beat😂😂😂
I also did buy a used 6r Highline DSG 1.2 2016 at 69000km millage...it did broke mechatronic n selector fork.. My extended warranty motorite did cover with R52000.00 and Total fixing was R62500.00 and R10500.00 from my pocket.. but it's been full year with no stories now
Mechatronic unit is R37k for an Audi A3 1.8 s-tronic 2014-2016 model. Please do a review on an Audi A3 , 14-16 model. Thermostat and water pump have been changed already. Had to put in new clutches as well. This engine is too delicious. E shorta ka vrrrppphhhaaa
My Audi A3 TDI Megatronic cost R36388 back in 2019/07. Five months after I bought the car, but from the previous owner the gear liver was ones replaced. It seems he had a lot fun driving it in Manual mode.
This polo gti was the best, that engine wow, sport select just made the car go crazy. Bought mine for 405k at 2017 brand new, all the bells and whistles were there, to see them costing so much after 8 years, nah boetie won't buy it, that is just mad business.
I'm also planning to buy a polo gti but I'm still putting together a decent deposit. My budget I think it will be around R400k, hoping to get a 2021 by December or January.
Ahh bafethu. My side chick, the best Polo GTi. Myself I want the 2017 model. I have such a huge bias towards this car. I will choose this over a VIVO. Owned a 2020 Vivo and my only issue was that eshota ka power.
This EA888.3 motor is fairly bulletproof and can easily last beyond 200 000km if maintained. They do not have excessive oil consumption like the 1.4, the only known common issue is the waterpump failure which is common for all cars with this engine such (MK7 GTI,S3,7R)
😅 I recently got an intership at local dealership(not that anyone asked me) and I must say it feels strange hearing bhut Muzi's perspective from the other side. Seller's perspective instead of the buyer's side of the fence. How will I convince people to buy this beauty after watching this video😢😭😭 and this baby is going for R339 900 and the kilos are still at 89 000 km. But it's a 2017 model though😅 Interesting video, bhut Muzi🙌👍🤝
My A3 had mecatronic problems with clutch plates and I spent R40k. On collection Audi told me there’s a fly wheel problem and I must pay R20k. I was mad as hell.
A friend of mine paid 38k for his mechatronics unit. And that was not even done by Audi. Aftermarket warranty only covered 5k of the cost. Same dq200 gearbox, but in an A3.
@@thobanimanzi because the aftermarket warranty listed the mechatronics unit as an electrical item and not a mechanical item. And it only covers 5k in electrical issues
@@Asdasty yoh! I'm also looking for a gti at the end of the year and for now I will be searching for a good, reliable aftermarket warranty and maybe a service plan as well. I'm planning to visit a few workshops, maybe a vw and bosch car service and ask them about the warranty companies that they work well with and that doesn't give hassles when they need to pay.
You’ve convinced me to stay away from high mileage out of warranty cars for good🤝🫡. The way you broke down my want for this GTI is amazing 😂. Give this man a Bell’s 🥃💯.
The Paintwork on this Polo GTI simply shows it wasnt washed with Sunlight Liquid. Proper Car care🤣 But Otherwise It would be a good buy. As you said it has an up-to-date Service History. Just get a Car Diagnosis and Have a better mechanical advantage over the lifespan of your car.
