2016 Mazda MX-5: Still one of the best? - XCAR 

I've bought one for myself and I've been enjoying it for the last 2 months... awesome awesome car

now everybody buy them by the shipload, decide you hate it after a year so I can pick one up for little money

watched this video on the day it was released. today......purchased it :-)

I absolutely love the ND, and this is coming from someone who could never stomach even looking at the previous generations. Glad they went the more aggressive route with the styling, among many other things.

Wet track + nd Miata + no slidey stuff = error.

The roll is designed in just to give you more fun it's a brilliant concept and it really does work

So, Alex isn't the only one who has thought to restore a MK1 MX-5.

Ive just bought a 1990 mk1 mx5....cant wait to start doing it up....my dads got one too. love them.

Miatas are a lot of fun. I used to turn my nose up at it until I drove it. It is a lot of fun... I'd rather have a Italian or german but this car is okey doke.

Top Gear like to say you can't be a true petrol head until you've owned an Alfa. I say, you can't be a true petrol head until you've owned one of these. Naturally aspirated, rear wheel drive, soft top, two seats, fun to drive, easy to mod and cheap. So cheap in fact, there's no excuse not to own one at some point! Great car.

It's no wonder this won Australia's Wheels car of the year. Between Mk3 and Mk4, they redesigned their production methods, they completely clean sheeted the engines, transmissions, chassis. And with the gram by gram, smack the engineer who can't justify a part being added to the car, it's lighter (and Mk3 was lighter than Mk2). What's more interesting is that in Australia it's also $15,000 cheaper than the old one. Crazy!

Waiting for Everyday Driver's take on the NA vs. ND. With my experience the ND is still lacking compared to the NA in terms of feeling, sense of speed, and lack of rev-ability of the 2.0 ND's compared to the 1.6L in the NA, (the 1.6L revs up a bit quicker) maybe its the gearing, or maybe the ND needs a lighter flywheel. IDK, but stock for stock I still prefer the NA to the ND

Most importantly it still has a proper gear shift lever and hasn't been ruined with paddle shift.

I love my NA, even though it's starting to get a bit rough after 220K km... I'd love to be able to walk into a Mazda dealership one day and order myself a black ND with the 2 liter engine... *sigh*.... Of course I would still keep my NA, to restore it!

I was looking for a Mk1 MX5, but when I sat in one, it turned out I'm too big to fit properly in it :D So I ended up getting an E30, and I'm quite happy with it so far.

The 1.5 is sweeter. More revvy and smoother. Great ride quality. I like the way it dives and squats on the softer suspension and 195 higher profile Yoko Advans - you can really lean on it. Never had so much fun within the speed limit. The 1.5 is quoted at 129bhp - took mine to BBR and rolling roaded it - turned out to be putting out 143bhp from factory. It's now got 158bhp thanks to BBR and revs to 7500. 3rd gear good from a crawl to 90mph... and it's 25kg less than the 2.0 at 975kg. Good car.

My little black NA would look good next to a black ND. Next year for me perhaps if I don't get an S3.

Never been a fan of convertibles. I’m a big coupe fan which is why I pulled the trigger on a brz instead.

Looks good but can't help thinking it rolls too much and needs some wider tyres. But I guess it would still be fun on my local roads in France where light and tight is the way forward.

I'm one of the few that doesn't like this car. I should say, I didn't like it as much as the BRZ/GT86. Everything feels too light, especially the steering. And don't get me started on the body roll! It's an enjoyable car to cruise around inn and soak up the world as it goes by. But as a sports car it misses the mark a bit.

Come on Mazda!! Bring turbocharged version next year!!!! Look at honda how well they're doing with fwd turbo hot hatch for fuck sake, mx5 deserves a proper performance, with some 280 bhp and this little weigh to carry around it would be like the best rwd car ever!!

There is a reason not to like it. it's not pleasant to realise that mazda went out of it's decided to make it look aggressive to apeal to males. Old version was kind of feminine but there was nothing wrong about it. NA was a cute little car and there was nothing wrong about loving a cte thing. What do we ned this new design, Mazda?
