In Europe this car is avaliable with 3 versions of the V6 Diesel: 258hp/443lbft, 306hp/516lbft, and 340hp/516lbft (hybrid diesel). And there's avaliable a V8 Diesel with 339hp/546lbft. And of course the V8 supercharged gas versions...

@danturbo316 idk why but america loves petrol (gas) diesel is superior in many ways torque mpg sound ,(sometimes you got some very nice sounding diesels)

the new 3.0L diesel in the RRS is now 306hp and 700nm torque (516ft/lb) and economy is up 20%, in the UK if I am careful I can get 50mpg, but on average it is 42mpg, with a 0-60mph time of 6.4s it is an awesome car !

I would be curious to see what the EGTs are on runs like this, gives a true look at how hard the engine is working. A $20 Bluetooth dongle from Amazon and the $5 torque pro app and you can check EGTs on any car that has a sensor for those (all modern diesels)

FYI. I'm an RRS owner. I thought you might want to know that the computer on the land rovers compute mpgs using a British gallon which results in about 20% inflation of mpg when using US gallons....
@sakimano
@sakimano 6 лет назад
I don't think it does, I think the computer is just bad at estimating. Only way to do it is to measure by filling up, doing thr test, then filling up to see the fuel used vs distance driven.

I feel like the canyon could of matched the mpg if it was done in the same weather but the range rover clearly has more pulling power so it's quite impressive to be having such a high mpg.

And to think the engine in this Range Rover might be the one found in the upcoming Ford F-150 Diesel; add the 10-speed transmission being introduced for the 2017 year and you have a recipe for great fuel efficiency! Very impressive Ike Gauntlet Review guys!

This is truly an amazing car. Say anything about Land Rovers but all my experience owning them are great ones. No other SUVs in my opinion offer a better package for families who go offroad, camping, and towing campers, all with extreme comfort.

I have recently learned they had a diesel. I been searching for long term reliability with the engine transmission driveline. haven’t found any reference. Are you aware of any issues and how about extreme cold? I live in Minnesota. It can be tough on diesel here with starting in the cold. Seems like a great vehicle to get.

7.1mpg on the Ike was awesome. The only other vehicle that is close in size and powertrain is the Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel. I do remember TFL running it up the Gauntlet, but I don't recall the MPG. Which was better under all conditions, TFL?!

bought my first range rover in 05 then replaced it in 07 with a supercharged one ( get the diesel engine, back then they had no diesel and the only reason i got the supercharged one over the regular was because it offered black interior and the regular one didn't) and i kept that one till... I'm still keeping it because the new one is an awesome car but i like the old one because it for me the hight and the higher seating position was better. maybe ill switch on the facelift, but i will always have a range rover in my family

They did but they put it on their other channel so you have to work for it. The jeep was slower 8:53 they towed a boat that was 100 lbs heavier and got 15.3 MPG
@rmkscrambler
@rmkscrambler 7 лет назад
I just re-watched the jeep on the ike. They failed to recognise that jeep calls tow/haul mode sport mode. So if they had driven it properly they would have got comparable, time and less mileage. I halfway wonder if they forgot to reset the mileage on the jeep because 15 does seam high.

In Montana, I think the law requires that the tow vehicle have a trailer brake controller when towing. Where would you install that in this vehicle?
@NTL1991
@NTL1991 3 года назад
The plug is under the dash. You install an aftermarket controller of your choice. The wiring to the hitch is there from the factory. I installed a Tekonsha P3 in mine. Land Rover didn't integrated the brake controller into the car, you just add your own. Plug and play.

So the scoring system for fuel economy is absolutely, completely worthless. 25 points, and a baseline of 6? I don't recall seeing anything below 3. A vehicle that gets 3 would get 24 point? While a vehicle that got 5 (almost the difference in fuel savings moving from an SUV to a Prius) would net one single point? You need to give or subtract points based on percentage from zero to a realistic top number.

If you'd increase the non subjective parts to 30 each and lower the subjective to 10, you'd get a number closer to the A-B-C-D-F traditional system people can more easily picture in their minds. For, instance, extrapolating the numbers you came up with and adding them percentage wise as proportional math, this would have scored 85.5, a B in people's minds and probably deserving of such a vehicle. People look at that 79, and think C+. Just my 2.5 cents.

I'm 102.333% in agreement. It's the objectivization of the subject matter that should be super-prioritized, and the subjectivization should be majorly deprioritized, otherwise you get an unobjectivizationness which deleteriousizeses the rationailizationness. The only thing that stops me completely agreeing is it's a load of nonsense.😐😐😐

@mikeb53
@mikeb53 8 лет назад
The whole body on frame thing IMO isn't the only determining factor. The RRS has all the same kit as the LR4 does for offroading. Low range gears, raising air springs, and the same traction control system. So it could safely be considered a proper 4x4 in my view so I disagree calling it a "crossover". Ive also seen the current RRS in action off road, and its easily as capable as anything else in the club despite the unibody. The wheel travel isn't that great on it, and a wheel does tend to rise form the floor, but, I have yet to see it stopped by something.

I know you guys r diesel crazy. But to be honest I think you should tell your listeners all the down falls of diesels. Diesel fuel where I live is $1.50 a gallon more than gasoline. Then there's maintenance it will cost you $125 to change the oil The cost of other filters that have to be changed. To repair a diesel cost thousands of dollars compared to hundreds for a gas motor. Oh I forgot the def fluid and do you know what it cost to replace the exhaust on a power stroke its $9000. I think the only people that need a Diesel engine is someone who told I have a trailer every day.

You are talking about the monster diesels. The 3 liter diesels are a different story, and cost about the same as a gas engine to service and maintain. Here diesel fuel costs less than gasoline, but the gassers have nowhere the towing ability or fuel economy.

+Mike S Sorry mike ur wrong...little diesel or big diesel doesn't matter they cost more to maintain and repair. Diesel mechanics make a lot more money and diesel parts are a lot more expensive
@Searcher356

Sorry Brent but you are wrong. I actually have one of each and I actually pay for maintenance - @ 180,000 miles between the two. They are about equivalent. You are still stuck in the Powerstroke / Cummins days. You were correct in 2000, but not today. The mechanics in modern shops are paid the same whether they work on diesels or gas, and the test equipment is also the same. You no longer need 1" drive tools to work on these diesels. And before you throw out the DEF argument, notice that I pay @ $17.00 every 10,000 miles for DEF. My last fill-up (today) was $2.17/gallon and I got 27.7 mpg - half city driving with a lot of idling with the A/C on (3.0 liter diesel, 5,000 lb SUV).

+Mike S Mike I agree with a lot of your arguments but regardless of what you say cost more to maintain. Your argument that most mechanics work on both diesel and gasoline motors is absurd. A gasoline mechanic would be lost working on a Diesel engine. Diesel mechanics go diesel school and get paid a lot more for there expertise. Seeing that a Diesel engine is a thousands of dollars upgrade saying the parts are no more expensive is again absurd.

+ Brent Mcconnell I am talking about the small V6 3.0 liter and smaller diesels. Go to the shops that service them - M-B, VW, Porsche, Audi, Range Rover, BMW etc. - yes, they are the same mechanics, receiving the same factory training. The "old hands" who worked on 80's diesels still are the ones for the 80's diesels, but since Tier 5+ emissions, mechanics in the passenger car and SUV are universalists. Even when Peugeot, VW and Isuzu were the only little engined diesels out there, the same mechanics worked on both gas and diesel. I worked at those dealerships then. Tools and diagnostics machines were then, as now, pretty much the same. The special tools are owned by the dealerships, so no investment in special tools OR training is needed by the mechanics. You are correct that the Industrial based diesels require different tools, and most of those mechanics came from diesel schools, but times have changed. Those Diesel mechanics would be lost on the small-displacement oil burners now, but their specialty is still dozers and graders. But for that matter, good mechanics do it all. Go to one of your County Shops and see the mechanics work on everything from lawn mowers to D9s. So service costs for the smaller diesels and gassers are about the same. The engines all seem to hold 9 quarts of oil, with low-friction (meaning expensive) synthetic specs. Fuel filters cost more every 20,000 miles, but 12 fancy spark plugs every 75,000 miles are expensive too. And the diesel upgrade is less than you might think, ($1500 for M-B) but it's usually more expensive because of the premium trim packages the manufacturers require you to buy. We'll see how that marketing approach works, now that the Big Three are jumping on the diesel bandwagon.

Not likely, the average 36 gallon diesel tank holds the equivalent of 1366 kWh of energy. Tesla's best battery is only 90kwh. That means your little tesla would run out of juice long before it made it half way up the Ike!

David Siebert, not the kind of condo you'd see one of these parked in front of. I can't imagine what kind of condo you are even talking about. There is a 500 sqft condo for sale here in Dallas for 75k. I'd rather live in the RR.

You can get a nice condo for around. 55. Not beach front or in Miami. But on the east coast of South Florida and in a good part of town. I am sure you could find a condo in Denton, Lewisville, or Lake Dallas for not much more than 75k.

Actually my wife is from Lake. Dallas. It was a nice little town. The key issue is still that in many places in the US 75k will buy you a home and not just in a getto or a third world country. Also remember that even if it only costs half as much as a home it is an extreme luxury. In other words it better me perfect for the cost!

This is up a pretty decent grade. They did another review with towing on a flat road it still got the best in its segment.
