That's a nice truck, man. I have a 2019 TRD Off Road that's running at 153,000 miles. Have had no problems with it. I use it for truck stuff as well, like hauling wood, towing trailers, and just going on some off road trails too. Mine is not modified in any way, all stock. Just put on some KO2's is all. But the truck is solid as heck still. All I've done is keeping up with the maintenance with oil changes, tire rotations, transmission fluid changes, differential fluid changes, and transfer case fluid changes. I've had 2 recall works done on it with the rear cab light seal replacement and the fuel pump, but those were covered by the recalls. Even though I never had issues with those things anyways. Other than that, I love how old school this truck is. I'm not a speed demon so the slowness to the truck doesn't bother me. Only when I need to pass vehicles on the highway do I feel the slowness, but I drive like an old person for the most part anyways so that doesn't bother me a lot. Lol. Fuel economy doesn't bother me because as some comments would put it, I'd rather pay more at the pump than at the shop. The years of refinement in this truck is paying off in how reliable it is now. So I'd rather take reliability than efficiency. I think I'm going to keep this truck up until the wheels fall off because I do not like how the new vehicles are overburdened with tech and all that. I don't mean to sound old but I don't trust all that tech. I love tech as much as the next person, but when it inhibits the driving experience and the feedback you would normally get from a vehicle is all automated, then that is when I get iffy about the vehicle. So my current Tacoma is such a breath of fresh air in how simple it is and how old school it is. It just sucks with the direction modern vehicles are going. I wish Toyota would continue selling the Tacoma's and 4Runners as is anyways. Like make it a legacy model line or something. Similar to how Ram does it with their Ram 1500 Classics, in which they still sell the older generation of the Ram 1500's, but brand new.

Thanks for tuning in man! Yeah I’m really happy with mine too overall. I’m not a speed demon either so it doesn’t bother me too much. I do the same with all fluid and maintenance stuff, aside from my spark plugs lol I should really do them soon. Glad you had good luck with yours too!

Bought me a brand-new 2023 TRD Sport. I sold my 2023 Frontier Pro4X and took the $7k loss, but it was well worth it because driving this 2023 Taco was so much better for what I need. It feels so much lighter than the Frontier, so I was getting three weeks of a full tank compared to two weeks with the Frontier. And let's not forget the resale value later on.
@uberleet01
@uberleet01 15 дней назад
what were the main reason(s) you swapped from frontier to taco??
@Doc1855
@Doc1855 12 дней назад
I installed a cold air intake and the Overland Torque Tune to my 23 TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed. My TRD now has 318 horsepower and 295 pound ft of torque at 2,300 RPM. It’s getting better mpg than before. I just got home from a trip to MT. During a Hard cross head wind at 82mph, I was getting 17mpg. With no wind at 82-90mph with the cruise set, I got 21.9mpg. At 76mph I was getting 23.4mpg. The Overland Torque Tune STOPS the transmission from hunting for the right gear and increases your horsepower and torque by 25. Your torque kicks in at 2,300 RPM instead of 3,800 RPM and the OTT doesn’t void your warranty.
@scott8238
@scott8238 9 дней назад
I did the opposite. I couldn't stand the seating position in the 3rd gen Taco or power delivery with the 6 speed vs 9 speed The reason the Frontier feels heavier is because it has a fully boxed titan frame which is much stronger than the C channel frame of the Taco which is prone to corrosion. Everyone has different opinions so good luck!

My Dad just got a 23 Tacoma with the JBL head unit. He was bummed it didn't have a CD player. I still have a large CD collection that I ripped to the highest quality using flac file format using a free program called Exact Audio Copy. The truck radio needs the USB drive to be formatted in either fat16 or fat32. I'm using a 64gb drive, and he has like 50 CD rips on it. He's happy. Now the truck does lock you out of searching files while driving, but you can still use the voice control to play whatever file. I arranged each CD to have its own folder in the root of the USB drive. Limitations of the truck was it can have a max of 3000 folders, and a max of 9999 files. So if you had 3000 CDs you could only have like 3.333 songs on each CD. So like in my Camry I was hitting the file limit before the folder limit.

That’s a bad ass truck , I wouldn’t trade my 2021 TRD ORDC 4x4 for anything out there , I bought it brand new and now with 62k miles on it and it’s running like brand new , and I do tow my car behind it trailer and car combo is 6k pounds and it pulls it just fine even in the hills in Arizona . By the way that 3.5L V6 is detuned from Toyota for longevity, it’s a bullet proof motor VERY robust , it has a 6 bolt main which I will bet not to many trucks have more than a 4bolt main , my power wagon was a 4 bolt main with 6.4L , I just absolutely love these Gen3’s !

I have a 2019 4X4 SR w/SX package and the v6. I have not had any real problems but at 102,000 miles I just replaced a rear u-joint and both lower ball joints. I have kept up on all fluid changes, brakes on the front at 60,000 and rear at 100,000. This is my 3rd Toyota pickup and totally love it except for the crazy, quirky transmission that many of us experience. I'm considering a ECU tune to try to fix the transmission shift patterns. I have gotten as high as 27 mpg but average 23 except when pulling our camper which takes it down to 12-13 mpg. One last comment....Dude clean that engine compartment.....lol.

Saying original sparkplugs mean nothing it's a maintenance item that at 30 to 50k should be replaced 100k on the same plugs just indicates poor maintenance oil change is extremely important but so are the other maintenance items

Now have the Overland Torque Tune and your tranny will STOP hunting for the right gear. It also increases your horsepower and torque by 25, while giving you better mpg. I installed the OTT and a cold air intake on my 23 TRD Off Road double cab, 6’ bed. I’m now getting 22mpg at 82-90mph here in north central Washington state and on our trips to central MT. Cheers Mate

I changed my plugs at 55K and was glad I did. Change them when the engine is cold of course. You will need to push down on the tab of the wiring harness with a screwdriver and pull the plug off with a pair of pliers. They are stuck on there pretty good. Bought my plugs at the dealership to make sure I’d be getting the real thing.

Beautiful truck. I like the TRD door badge with the Tacoma door badge and TRD bed decal delete. Looks very clean. I bought a 23 TRD OR at the end of 2022 because I wanted a tried and true proven truck to keep for a long time. The new 2024 redesign hype is just that. It’s not proven and won’t be for at least 5 years. Wait until all the gremlins start coming out. I recommend getting a 2023 before they sell out because once the last one is sold they will become instant collectors items. Keep them clean and maintained and you will never lose money on them. I use the hell out of mine hauling, overlanding and daily driving and it has been perfect. Couple questions in regards to your lift. Any issues with your CV axle, boots etc? I’m looking to do a mild 2” lift to fit 32” tires. Also with your tire setup have you noticed any significant engine performance issues? Thanks.
@timbear3175
@timbear3175 17 дней назад
No issues with the lift or anything wearing. From what I’ve found, 3 inch lift or under doesn’t change the angles of the front end enough to cause issues with CVs, ball joints etc. regarding my tires, I haven’t noticed anything different performance wise. I’ve got 285/70/17s on now, and they don’t seem to be heavy enough for anything to change as far as towing or even gas mileage dropping. I feel like anything 33 inch or under is safe

I have a John Deere 870 and a dual axle flatbed and I’ve been wondering if my ‘22 TRD Off Road Taco can tow it, with implement, to my farm. It’s only about a 4-5 mile drive from my house and mainly flat land. I see you tow a similar size tractor too. How does your truck manage??
@timbear3175
@timbear3175 16 дней назад
The truck is rated for 6400 lbs towing. I’ve found that 5000 lbs or over is when the truck will work noticeably harder, but it always has got the job done.I’ve gone 3-4 hours with heavy loads (roughly 5000lbs) maybe a little over, and it’s fine, you just can’t drive quite as fast and have to listen to your truck gear hunt and run rpms higher than normal. Bad gas mileage too (13mpg) So I guess it depends on how heavy you’re talking on pulling, but from my experiences, it’s underpowered, but not under capable. Itll handle what you need it to, but your motor is gunna be working. Hope that makes sense

Going through rivers past the doors is probably you got the rust issue on the frame . A good wax job and WD-40 can prevent this . WD-40 repels moisture while it still lubricated. Service your taco like AIRFORCE 1.

I mean they are changing things most people were complaining about... No power? Improved. Bad efficiency? Improved. Gear hunting? Improved(3RD gen Tacoma specific.).. No manufacturer is exempt from first model year problems. Especially when they changed the entire drivetrain to address the issues with previous gens. All that said, I will be keeping my 17 Sport with the 6 Speed for a LONG time.

Nah no aftermarket gears or tune. Ironically, I’ve found that suburb driving 35-55 mph is the best. Typically I get about 21 mpg locally. But yeah, the best efficiency the computer on the truck calculated was 24. Does worse on the free way lol makes no sense

There are more important things that can be addressed. How is the transmission? Many complaints on hunting for gears. Is towing worse for hunting gears? Where was it made? It'll tell you on the door jamb. Several people complained that the Mexico made trucks fit and finishes are not as nice.

The only throttle booster I trust is the BANKS throttle monster. Why do I say that? I did research and tried the device and it improved the truck a lot. As mentioned in your vid, not a lot of power with these trucks but improving the throttle response makes a nice, positive improvement. I had a 21 SR5 and now I have a 23 TRD OR. Awesome truck and if I had to compare this truck to a pistol, I’d say that a Tacoma is like a Glock, a G19 to be specific….. a gen 3 😉🫡
