2017 Accord Sport CVT Review | From a Type R Owner's Perspective

This is the review of the 2017 Honda Accord Sport with the (dreaded) CVT. It's a great value, and does have sporting intentions, it's even fun to drive, but the CVT saps a lot of the fun. This Accord is VERY spacious and has a lot of great features, but if it were up to me, I'd get it in the manual.

I love my 2017 Accord. I believe looks have always been subjective in Honda’s period especially for this newly refreshed generation. But so far as a daily commuter vehicle it’s very practical and useful. I can definitely see why sales sky rocketed each year since 1976 for this vehicle. In my opinion Honda does it better than any other vehicle manufacturer in the business Even better than the ubiquitous Toyota lineup.

2017 model is the best in my opinion. Seems like most peeps(like myself) would agree. Very minimal disagree. I love the 19 inch wheels for sure. That's what makes it more sporty look. The 2018 rear end suck in my opinion(they look like a Malibu/Monte Carlo rear end) no good 👎 I'll stick with the 2017 H.A.S for sure and the 2.4 Liter is perfect. I've heard them 1.5T have been giving tons of issues (from other videos that I've seen).

This didn’t age well bruh. There’s a lot of 🧢 in this video 💀 The 9.5 gen is definitely the best looking Accord to date 📠 Very classy and upscale looking. The 9th gen seemed dated and tired bro and definitely needed the refresh. The rear especially looks more refined. Wheels are 🔥🔥🔥 The CVT I can’t speak to tho bc I got the Touring V6 👌🏾 Bought it in 2019 and don’t plan on selling her for a long long time 💯 To each his own tho 🤷🏾‍♂️
@FlyinGato
@FlyinGato Год назад
yea the newest Accord is way better in every way, for sure, but the classic Honda V6 is one hell of an engine that will be missed, while the 2.0T is great, the V6 is irreplaceable.
@rubenfabela9285
@rubenfabela9285 Год назад
@@FlyinGato I think the rear end on the back looks really bad and cheap. Not a big fan of the fast back look. I’m not sure why Honda tried to make it look like a civic in the back either with those terrible tail lights on the 10th gen. Should have made it unique. Front looks solid tho. Inside it looks like it’s not as upscale as the 9th gen. Not ugly but more simple. Sport wheels on the 10th gen look pretty good too. I’m still partial to mine. I might have bought a 10th gen tho if they fixed that back side in a refresh. Hoping the 11th gen is better 🙏🏾

I have to agree about all the chrome. It’s like someone wearing too much gold. It starts to look tacky. The road noise in this model is also pretty high. Not a fan of cvt but Honda does it the best. Nissan cvt are much more whiny and give that rubber band feel.

It kind of does. Stock NA vs turbo sound these days :\ ...the CVT kills it once you start revving it out though. The exhaust note falls flat when you 'shift' to another ratio. Source: had a 16 Sport. Loved the car...but the CVT progressively got more and more on my nerves...especially on trips to the mountains. Could take the corners well but the whine from the belt made it sound like the transmission was ready to explode...
@dlombana161
@dlombana161 7 лет назад
Definitely on point impressions. Good car, good dynamics for the segment, kinda of ruined by a so-so transmission. Especially going from the 6MT in the CTR to a CVT it would be a bit too much to deal with. I did the opposite move, went from the Sport to the CTR...never looking back. Also, it's probably easier to get a CTR for MSRP these days than to find an Accord Sport manual for sale within a reasonable distance/time frame. Any word on when you'll get the R back?

I love the accord sport but what prevents me from buying it is how the ill equipped the accord comes from the factory. Since it’s based on the LX trim, only 4 speakers(4 speakers in 2017?), no sun roof, and no android auto/ Apple car play. The EX trim is a lot better but they dont have the wheels, or dual exhaust.

Thanks for the thorough, detailed review and sharing your opinions. I just test drove a slightly used 2017 Accord LX and liked it a lot. It had the CVT trans and I thought it ran smoothly. Don't think I have the issue with CVTs that you do, but I didn't floorboard it either. That being said I'd still definitely prefer driving the 6-speed manual. And, I absolutely agree with about how cool the 15/16 years looked vs this mid-year refresh. The rear end on the refresh still looks pretty cool but the front is not nearly as cool/streamlined as the 15/16, and the wheels on the 15/16s were way better!--as you mentioned, what was the point Honda??

When I first test drove a civic hatch sport touring in cvt I was expecting a terrible experience with the cvt but surprisingly it was pretty good. I think I'd be fine with a cvt with paddles. I still miss the real geared autos. It was a close fight as it if I would get a mazda3 gt hatch or civic hatch. The mazda passed the civic on exterior design and a real geared auto. I would have definitely bought the mazda if it had a little more spacious trunk and rear seat room. I still to this day think if I made the right decision or not.

Hey there , I currently have a 2017 Honda Accord sport I bought exactly a month from this comment . At first the car was driving great loved it . Now it’s hesitating and and sport mode it feels like it’s stuck on high gear when driving. For me to actually have speed I have to Gas the clutch down more now than before . I already took it to the Honda and supposedly the transmission fluid was dirty but somehow they didn’t duplicate the problem I have been dealing with . What should I do??

Seemed slower then my 2.5L 2012 Camry. I would have already been doing highway speeds coming out of that ramp or blown by the truck quicker. Only time Camry lost to another big 4 engine was off the lights by same Accord (my defense, it was wet and couldn't put down as well). The CVT can be fast, just takes it sweat old time putting down the power.
