I've ran into this same problem with my 2017 GMC Sierra. Serial data gateway module. Just thought I'd share my experience as you have shared your knowledge. My cluster would intermittently work. Sometimes a few days or weeks from working and not working. All gauges would not work. Radio would not shut off. Steering wheel would not illuminate. Etcetera.
Does the dealership have to program this? Can another shop do it? Also, car runs and drives now so should it still run if I replace this so I can drive it to the shop?
My 2010 hybrid escalade is showing "service hybrid system" after replacing the OEM hybrid battery with an aftermarket one. The hybrid problem is fixed with no symptoms other than "Service hybrid system" on the dash display. I've read rumors that the Serial Data Gateway Module must either be replaced or reprogrammed. Have you (or anybody) ever heard of this? Really appreciate anyone's response. Doesn't look like the poster of the video responds to people

Man thank you so much. This is our exact problem we’re having. Same car. Same year. Can you tell me how I could go about getting programmed after I swapped the part? Should the car still run if I swap the part and take it somewhere to get programmed?
