Was a fun last lap to watch! Bummer about the time penalty for Verstappen. It seemed that while he did take his four wheels off, Kimi ran too wide to defend regardless.
Mind that the next turn was a left though, without the speed avantage he has gained from cutting he would never be able to go around the outside Even if he could have overtaken him easely, he should've done it legal regardless Would have liked to see him get 3rd though, just a couple corners too short
It happened to a lot of other drivers as well. The consistency is once again terrible! Also, he could have passed him easily by going a bit less to the inside of the corner. but he also had to avoid a collision with Kimi. Adding to that: after the Mexico GP 2016, where Max was also taken from the podium, the stewards and the teams had an agreement that a diver should ALWAYS get a chance to defend himself before the stewards. the FIA is not even playing by their own rules! Disgrace for the sport!
raggandb well he didn't leave him much room either did he. He initially steered in. He went steered left at the last moment again but by then max had already decided to cut the corner to prevent them from crashing, which, in my mind is a justifiable reason and so according to their own rules max shouldn't have been penalized.
Carlin Shut up about it. It was an enjoyable race for many reasons. Even though your favorite driver got knocked out of a podium, doesn't mean the race is bad.
@@77headshoter how so ? The finish is much closer to the corner in Austria and the track is much narrower , and there have been prior incidents in Austria involving latifi …
How about instead of squabbling over whether Verstappen should have been penalized or not, how about promoting discussion to get decisive rules on track limits so there won’t need to be indecisive conversation about Max’s penalty?
So many people crossed the limit this weekend and Verstappen gets to pay the penalty just because he passed Raikkonen in the last lap. Why not put heavy kerbs? Why not warn drivers? Why not penalise them before?
The rules are decisive. The enforcement is not, however. Favorable teams and drivers often get a pass. The only thing we can do is to demand the FIA to enforce the rules adequately, consistently and distribute penalties accordingly.
Getting decisive and consistent ruling from the FIA? Not gonna happen any time soon with the current stewards The fact that they have a different steward in their club every race says enough about how bad their system is
3:48 Why did the shit stewards penalize Ericsson for that? He made a solid move n the inside and the other just turned in on him. And how did Magnussen manage to finish the race without a single penalty?
They should take a serious look at the stewarding and how it's affecting the race, at least give some time to properly review the footage and discuss with the team when it literally means the difference between a podium or not - no one had anything else to do while waiting for the ceremonies. And as for the video footage I think Max reacted to Kimi turning in slightly mid corner and cut the corner in order to avoid what he thought would be a collision, but there's no way they could make a rational decision in the 2 minutes it took them. If it was for like 10th place they wouldn't even have bothered reviewing the pass or penalizing, it's a shame cause it ruined a great race.
Jammy Yam29 Well when you consider that with 20 cars on the grid, there were 5 retirements and 2 people ahead of him crashed, it's not incredible. Shame he got stuck behind Stroll the majority of the race which probably ruined his entire race.
At the video of the F1 USA GP circuit guide i commented about how this track gets on my nerves in the F1 2017 game but watching this GP the whole weekend i see that the drivers going damn wide aswel on the track. 😂
Don't you love it how enthusiastic Crofty is about every fart Lewis lets go, but when Vettel pulls of an overtake like the one on Bottas, he's as impressed as if he just saw a bag of noodles fall over.
From someone who watches both German and British TV: I can assure you that these British commentators showcase a much more balanced and equal level of enthusiasm, raising their voices as loudly for a non-British driver as for a Brit, whereas the German commentator(s) (RTL) completely lost his/their sh*t upon Vettel's overtaking at the start but who later could not care less when Ham got him back and won the race. Trust me, these two German commentators do not miss a chance to denigrate Hamilton (or rather his lifestyle as his driving is impeccable)...so you're way better off with what you have
Peter Piper His driving is definitely not impeccable. His starts are mostly terrible and Vettel is faster than him and would kick his ass in the same car.
@roland van der Vegt Watch the race coverage on Channel 4 by Ben Edwards & David Coulthard. Their commentary made this race a 8 out of 10 but the lack of Enthusiasm of David Croft, especially for Sainz on Perez & Max on Kimi made this coverage of the race 6 out of 10.
@Madman Its funny that you say that, since Hamilton is not the best driver. Hamilton has only droven dominant cars, however, Verstappen hasn't. Or Sainz (He has showed his real talent today). Both have already showed us they can perform with the non-dominant car, meaning they are both better than Hamilton.
people should remember Sebastian and jenson button in hockenheim 2012 last lap overtake by sebastian resulted in a penalty because overtaking 4 wheels off the white lines , get your head around the rules.max is a brilliant driver but he got it wrong this time.
Enzohijjawi The issue isn't that. The issue is EVERYONE got it wrong. Max was the one punished for it and after a race like that that penalty was a big fuck you to the fans, especially the american fans at Austin
Easily one of the better races this season. The top 5 was really close the entire race! Especially Max made this one very exciting and his last overtake was absolutely brilliant! Such a shame what happend afterwards, I have to agree with Lauda on the decision of the FIA.
Very enjoyable race. Ferrari is set to improve next season and verstappen will surely become a championship challenger, this season was a great trailer for next)
Now this was a great Grand Prix. There was no battle for 1st for a majority of the race, but the battle for 2nd was between 4 drivers and there was plenty of overtaking. We need more races like this.
It’s crazy how I know this track by heart from driving for so many hours in iRacing. Makes it so much entertaining to watch when you’ve semi-experienced the track yourself.
People does not understand that there are 3 types of "out of the track" maneuvers: 1: Going Wide (In some weird cases can give you advantage like in Hockenheimring or Hungaroring but ussualy does not) 2: Cutting (Going straight is always faster than zig-zag duh...) 3: Being Pushed of. (Depends of your oponent) Verstappen did the 2nd and gained advantage so he was given 5 sec. That's it...have a good day
gg max watched live dead excited for podium then realised there was a penalty. got my emotions running lolll but congrats to hamilton and vettel and obviously räikkönen!
It was brilliant drive by both Raikkonen and Verstappen. Both showed good pace and were enjoyable to watch. However, rules are rules, no matter how inconsistent one might perceive them to be.
No he just did. But Vet was a way better start than Verstappen in Singapore. And Vet do not drive so stupid like Verstappen. Otherweise Kimi woud have won this race
Noticed the same thing. If there was a similar wall on the left ,and 1 car between the wall and Vettel it would have been a crash. Also considering bad visibility in SP. Racing incident
1:25 he’s half a second quicker on this lap HAMILTON he’s going down the inside HAMILTON he’s taking the lead of the grand prix is LEWIS HAMILTON the lead has changed hands. lol
Christian Horner: why did you give Verstappen the penalty? Stewards: the ting goes skrrrrrah, pap pap ka ka ka, skibiki pap pap, and a pu pu puddrr boom.
the stewart just care about the show they do what suit them if they could they would penelize hamilton for anything just to make vettel closer and keep the show on
What's wrong with that off-track rule? On a different part of the track, everyone went off and gained an advantage. That Max #offtrackgate is a complete joke like they did this political shit with Senna/Prost in Suzuka or Schumacher as a young driver.
The rule states that if 'drivers gain an advantage by going off-track they should be penalized'. By being forced wide Bottas was able to maintain his position two times, which means that the rule applies here. The rule doesnt allow for relative advantage, every advantage is exactly the same. Also if it was indeed the case that Bottas was forced of, Ricciardo should be penalized for that. There should however be no discussion about whether all of the other drivers that went off track should be penalized. Vettel got ahead of Hamilton in the first turn, but if he would have gone slower he may not have been able to do that, altough he would have stayed on the track. Same goes for when Sainz went off track while overtaking Perez. If he had gone slower he may have been able to take that turn correctly, but he would not have overtaken Perez.
Hamilton smashes Bottas every race and Bottas is always fighting in the top eight while Hamilton is 20 seconds ahead of him every race, and people still say that Hamilton only wins because of his car hmmmmmm F1 fan logic I guess. If it was all the car then Bottas would be getting second every race and would have won more than two races early in the season, now let's see everyone try to tell me that Lewis has a better or different car than Bottas lol.
I dont think that's the case, people are not saying he's not a good driver infact he's one of the three best drivers on the grid along with alonso and vettle but what people mean when they say he's winning just because of his car i think they are referring to the scenario were if lewis vettle and alonso were given the same car aka the merc would lewis be as dominant as he is right now granted in terms of outright quali pace i think lewis is still better than the other two but in terms of race craft i think alonso is the best among the three and granted this year ferrari did have a very competitive car but mercs are a bit better and given how close these guys are in ability that little bit of an advantage is enough for lewis to come out on top at least that's what i think
I continually read people harp on about how Alonso's race craft is better than Hamilton's yet I have yet to read anything that actually backs this up, it just seems to be something people say. When they were team mates in 2007 Hamilton finished with the same points, wins and podiums as Alonso and out qualified him by quite a margin, made even more remarkable by the fact it was Hamilton's rookie F1 season. Everyone that knows anything about F1 knows it's virtually all car but they had the same car that season, so where was this better race craft? whatever that actually is...
nomoreclickbait please The same can be said for Raikkonen in the Ferrari. What we have here are two of the best drivers of this decade with two very similar cars with two underperforming teammates.
nomoreclickbait please So by that logic Nico Rosberg is actually a good F1 driver and a deserved world champion? He put his car on pole and won many races. It just happened alot more after F1 switched to hybrids.
Joe Kidd He is a good driver. He is just not liked for his borring, cringy presonality and his reputation has been ruined by his shit career before joining mercedes.
looking at the thumbnail i thought it was this year’s race😂 mercedes squeezing a ferrari, followed by another merc, then a ferrari, then a red bull, and then another red bull near the back of the grid😂😂 almost identical lol
0:56 Vettel goes out of the white line, no punishment 3:53 Vettel goes out of the white line, no punishment Hamilton does the same in his pole lap, no punishment .....
I used to love seeing Alonso's team radio appear to hear what he would say about the McLaren engine next, but at this point it's just sad. He has so much potential but he's not in the right car. Here's hoping the Renault engine will give him better results.
It doesn't matter. Neither driver was within track limits, and if the rule is enforced for one then it should be enforced for another. Of course, the FIA has a long history of playing favorites anyway...
Yes because Verstappen forced him off. If forcing another driver off is a penalty then why didn't Max get one (not saying he should've)? When a driver overtakes they make sure they stay on track. If the driver trying to defend goes off because the other driver forced him off, he has every right to come back on track ahead.
Everything in F1 is ultra clean with no rough edges. And when a driver wins he sounds like he's just had a really successful business meeting! Tiniest bit of tension on the podium where it's very clear the leading drivers don't really like each other but otherwise pretty tame fare. By the way, Sebastian Fettle??
