Didn’t realize how easy/cheap this was. Dealership charged me $95 for the part and is asking $170 for installation. Might just have to do it myself, thanks for taking the time to make this
I recently moved a few minutes away and am within walking distance of a auto shop. Just got a quote to get my accuator replaced. They want to charge me $80 for the part and $180 for the installation. No way im doing that. Not even a critical repair. For something serious, I could understand that price. I bought the part on Walmart for $15. Amazon has them for $23. Just going to install it myself when I have the time
The worst part about dealership charging that much is the mechanic gets the smallest percentage for the work. Most of it goes to the dealer and the service advisor
Dude! The Honda dealership wants to charge me $399.98 to get the part replaced…. AND IM PROVIDING THE PART! Thank god for this video, gotta go play mechanic for the day now haha
Had this problem forever and a month ago bought the part on amazon for like 18 bucks, been waiting for a good day to do it and finally did! Thank you so much! 😊❤
Bonus tip. Attach a string to the green loop of the old part. Pull it through cut the string off and attach to new part. Tape rubber grommet in place so it can’t slide. Pull string from the trunk guiding new green wire through. Carefully help the grommet seat. Remove tape. Feed the rest of the way. Bam! Don’t have to remove any panels 😎
Thanks for the video! Took about 15 minutes to change it out. Worst part of it was the clips for the wheel well cover broke so had to go out and buy more!
Yeah it was robbery. Quick update though, I fixed it myself and it only took me 1 hour jacking up the car, taking out the prongs with a flat head, taking out the old actuator, and a new $29-49 part from Amazon. Thanks to this video!
That actuator failing at 15k really shows how cheap Honda went on the parts for these cars. I have a 2017 and I have had issues since I bought it. My wheel locks to the left trying to drive itself even though I have all driving aids turned off and all the electrical is wonky don’t get me started on the rubber window trim and weather trim on the roof 😭 and my actuator just went as well. Ughhh thank you for the video!!
The Hatchbacks are even easier: Remove all the tools/jack/Funnel from the said panel in the hatch. There you will see that hole for the plug. I used my hands and needle noise plier and a flathead to remove the piece from under the gas cap. 15min max. No need to jack the car up and remove cover :) Hopes this help
Went to Honda dealership today. I was told this is what's wrong with my car. Their estimation is just under $600.00 to fix it. That's parts and labor!!
@@RBTheMechanic update i did it by myself ! The only issue I had was the gas tank is super close to the fuel pump actuator so I had to squeeze it out but it wasn’t bad ! Thank you
My door actually doesn’t even stay locked anymore when you push it in. It is always open now and I think it’s so dangerous. Would that be the actuator as well?
I dont understand why you'd take the tire off. Just tie some rope on the loop before pulling the old one out and use the rope to pull yhe new one in. Super easy to fix, hardest part wad taking the old one out but if you tey fron the bottom it pops right out.
I think mine broke cause my gas cap was open at car wash and it opened the complete opposite way chipping paint on my car now it doesn't close while driving only when I lock my car and hold the gas cap closed..
My dealership refused to fix it, saying it was a known issue. I fixed it twice myself (super easy) but the same issue with the bzzzzzzzzzzzt when I lock and unlock the car. I'm so sad.
Ive had this problem for months and got used to the sound. It does sound pretty cool and it has confused so many people as to why my car makes that sound haha. I just bought the replacement part from Walmart for $14. An auto shop tried to charge me $260 for it. Only reason Im actually going to replace it now is cuz the door lock gets stuck and I have to open the gas door from the trunk
Hey my Civic doesn’t make that sound but my gas cap won’t long when i lock the car. I had to press down on the gas cap then lock the car for it to lock in . Should I change the actuator ?
Emergency manual open just incase it dosent open with electrical component because they knew this has and will fail very soon and they needed way to open it to replace it
Hey Ralph Bob The Mechanic!, is that the same procedure for the auto locks? As in you start your car and you're about to go and then it locks the doors automatically!!👍👍
I’m not sure if ur asking ur auto locks don’t work but ur door like for similar mechanism they also do fail u just got to listen to the sound where it’s comming from
