2018 BMW 430i CONVERTIBLE - Is it Practical ?? Pros vs Cons , 0-60 & Review 

This guy doesn't know what he is talking about. I have the 428i convertible. Can fit TWO sets of golf clubs in the trunk with the rear seat folded down - which is where the wind deflector is. Perhaps he doesn't own this car?

I doubt this guy own this car. I have a m4 convertible, the wind diffuser is behind your back seats. And you can fit a suitcase in the boot when the top is open. You can actually lift the boot lit when then top is retracted. There is a button in you boot. I think he make his video to tell us he is an idiot. LOL

I snagged a 2018 431 twin turbo convertible hardtop that came off a two year lease with 15,000 on the clock. Have owned almost a year and put on less than 10,000 on it & absolutely love it!! Thanks for the video. This car is a diamond ❤️

The whole point of a convertible is to feel the wind in your hair. Perhaps you should have bought the coupe and added a sunroof 😂

There's a wind deflector between the rear seat back and the cargo area. Fold the seat back down and it's there.

Good advice when testing 0-60: 1 - Use the sport gear 2 - press the brake and hold it 3 - press the speeder all the way to kickdown and watch the rpm rise to about 3-4000RPM and HOLD it for around 5 seconds to build boost 4 - let go of the brake and hold the speeder and feel how your back spine is ripped out of your skin only to be molded into the leather behind you. That's launch control for ya (which almost all BMW's with an automatic transmission have as far as I know)

Ran one down from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles, loved it. Was pleasantly surprised by every aspect of the experience except for the storage capacity. Enterprise charge me a one-way fee, but it was a standard rent so I got it for about the same amount. Took it Canyon carving from Hesperia through Wrightwood to Glendale on the California 2, loved it, Sport Plus was essential for fast downshifts, saving my brakes. Of course I got blown away by 911s, but those cars cost at least twice as much.... 😀 Kinda interested in the 440i now..

My friend has a 428i Convertible. His lease is up soon and I thought about buying his car based on the residual price of his 3-year lease. But after hearing your cons, I don't think I want to buy his car anymore. Thanks. I liked that it is a convertible-hardtop.

The 4 series convertible does have a wind deflector. It's behind the back seat.

I drove the 2019 440i cabrio in the horendous roads of Saskatchewan, Canada and did not notice that the suspension was conducive to road imperfections. I also drive a cushy Lexus RX and the cabrio wasn’t bad on local roads. I think suspension woes are being overstated

You don’t need trunk space, the rear seat is plenty enough. Actually there is a windscreen 💨 behind the rear seat which can reduce the noise like the Porsche.

If you don’t like the wind why didn’t you use the provided wind defuser provided behind the back sest?

I stopped this at 3:35. I don’t like listening to reviews who are making criticisms about a vehicle that shows they didn’t do any research to learn their criticism is wrong and the manufacturer addressed it. The rear wind thing is hidden behind the rear seat.

I drive a 2010 BMW X5M. I have the 430i as a courtesy Car. I only enjoyed the 430i with the top down. The ride is smoother than my X5M (that's a really harsh ride). The car is absolutely sporty and small. I am not sure I could vouch for buying this car, I'd probably look at a Used M3 but test drive a used M6 for some type of truck.

I don’t understand why the acceleration was so slow. I thought something went wrong when you stopped at 60. Then I realized it’s mile...

Plenty of trunk space. I don't know what you are talking about. I own one. Its not an SUV, but there is plenty of space in the trunk unless you are hauling around all your lifelong possessions. Maybe a little less room with the top down, but I can get all my groceries in the trunk or a mid-size suitcase.

Huge plus is Gas ⛽️ Mileage on the BMW 430 X-Drive convertible and am averaging over 28 mpg. The 1st generation B48 engine is one of the best 4 cylinder engines ever manufactured by anyone. Can anyone recommend some struts to make a drive a bit softer? I already swapped out the run flat tires.

A bit of Wind in a cabrio ... Can't be that bad ! I drove it being at the back, 12° in North West French Brittany. Nearly no Wind even at 110 kmh, Glasses up.

I’ve driven my dads friends 800hp stage 3 roush 5.0 on 305 slicks, I doubt the acceleration of a 248hp convertible is going to impress me each time I floor it

This is a scandalous test ! The trunk is small with the top down, you forget the comfort feature of lifting the top when down, to access the trunk. The trunk is big when the top is up. You forget the possibility of the folded back seat. The harsh drive is because you have the sport suspension and the run flats.Replace the runflats with some conti extreme contact and it will make the car smooth. Wind , a convertible , is wind ! Install the wind deflector ! If sport + , is what you want, buy a 440 ! The 2 liter bmw is making noise like a lawnmower , yes it goes but the sound is .... ! And please do not grab the wheel like a maffia boss ! Not at all for a sporty drive ! Better stop to test cars !

Good Grief! As others have said - you really did an uninformed job in reviewing this car. Bumpy? NO trunk space? NO wind block? Wrong on every case. At lease you were spot on regarding the acceleration in this car. And - modern day convertible soft tops are nothing like the ones from years ago. Very strong, very durable, and (in more upscale cars) amazingly quiet interiors. Anyway - do a bit more research before going on RU-vid next time.

Good try for a first review, but you comments are vague, too many "good" "better" references which is irrelevant when we dont know what are comparing it to. As a BMW fan (owned 3 convertibles) it is quite a boring car but "good" car. I am comparing it to my 981Boxster GTS and my e350 merc.

All of your con's are (FALSE)! u should really be ashamed.. The wind apparatus is behind the back seat and you can still regulate the space of the trunk while in convertible mode. Not to sound like Pontus Pilot but I FIND NO FAULT in this car only in your early uneducated analogy.

440 is not a twin turbo. It is a dual scroll turbo, one turbo fed by 3 cylinders into 2 different inlets. Also, on top of your cons, a major con is that it’s missing 4 more cylinders. And the sound is not great; it’s good for a 4 banger but that’s it.

The 440i is a twin scroll single turbo, not a twin turbo.

You didn't do your homework properly, did you? The wind deflector which you lament the absence of, can be purchased separately. However, if your car has the interior comfort pack, the wind deflector is part of that and is unobtrusively stored behind the rear seats; seats that, btw, fold down to give unimpeded access to the trunk (just like a hatchback). It is an option that wasn't ticked when the car that you drove was specced. The car also lacks the convertible comfort pack that includes stuff like the air scarf that blows warm air onto the neck of the front seat occupants. As for your cons, life is always a trade off. Sure, there is little trunk space with the roof down but all that means is that if you have to transport stuff, either keep the roof up or use the back seats. You also moan that you lose the use of the back seats if you use a wind deflector. So, don't use the wind deflector if you have back seat passengers. Seems to me that you want to have your cake and eat it. The easy way to not have to deal with the inconveniences of a convertible (any convertible) is to buy the coupe or the sedan, duh.

I like the video. It provided a good summary. I saw the car at the dealership and, even with the system to have full access to the deeper trunk space, let’s be honest: it is a small trunk. But heck, if I want trunk space I do not look for it in a convertible. The other good tip is regarding the stiffer suspension as I could not test drive the car. Thank you for the video.

It's true what he says about how good the top is and how insulated and quiet it is in the cabin. I swapped cars with a friend he has this one. I drove the car around for maybe over 12 hours, enjoying the ride of course, but it wasn't until I dropped my phone in between the seat and console and went reaching for that I looked down and saw the button. Wait a minute that looks like a drop the top button and it's in the area where drop the top buttons typically go. Huh nooo. Mind you it was beautiful day outside and Id just got a haircut. I pulled over at a gas station and pushed it "Transformers Robots in disguise, dert dert dert" all four windows went down in sync the top did a dance and went away, and now I outside and had a few people looking my way cause yeeeah I'm not a regular guy. I'm fkn cool.. yeeeah. Hey which one of you cute gals want to ride with me so I can drop the top on my ex. Maybe we will hit up a drive through and get you some lunch for your time yeeeah. Do you know anything about BMWs? I think you should go to a Subaru outback, it will fit all kinds of crap in it. It is an awesome looking car made for people who want to enjoy the best things in life. I am done wasting my time on this review.
