1st 2018 BMW G310GS RALLY RAID CONVERSION @ FRONTLINE EUROSPORTS WITH JENIFER MORGAN, FIRST IN THE UNITED STATES!!!! Frontline Eurosports BMW, Ducati, Triumph, & Zero 1003 Electric Rd. Salem, VA 24153 (540) 387-9780
You’d expect nothing less than a thorough explanation and self build from the brilliant Jenny Morgan and having this video to reference is priceless. Superb stuff.
Thanks for the great video explanation of the Rally Raid equipment for the G310GS. I ride a R1250GS Adventure, and just bought this little GS for my wife, her first bike! We will be building it up with all the Rally Raid gear! Thanks again! You’re really awesome Jenifer Morgan.
Your wife will be enjoying the heck out of that thing, hopefully as much as I do hehehe. Thanks for watching, commenting, and complimenting the video... Cheers, ~Nate
This is amazing, the engineering explanations behind this Do It Yourself (DIY) project brings home a lot of unknowns. Greatly appreciate the extensive reference to tools and what is being used and the favoring of working with tools used on the road not only when riding, but also when at home.
Jest got my BMW G310GS looking forward to my fix on adventure. love the wheels and suspension. thank to you Nathan and Jenifer all the people involved to bring this grate video to us. will share and big thumbs up guys,
😳, congratulations!!, what a good and beauty job, and the fact that you share with us, really nice Tomorrow I will receive my new G310 GS, “standard”, also black, and with your video, your job and your passion, you have increased even more my desiree of diving the bike Thanks!!👍
Great video Jenny! I actually met you at Overland Expo in Flagstaff couple weeks ago as you pulled up on your 310 GS. I told you that i had just purchased my own 310 GS and you were kind enough to walk me through some of the Rally Raid mods. Really appreciate your time and giving of information that day. Be safe, cheers!!!
Ameet Shreemal Hello Ameet, I have had the bike now for 3 weeks. Absolutely love the bike. I am still in the break in period for the 1st 600 miles. I have had the bike up to 70 but only had ot there for about 10 seconds then brought it back down, which is what they recommend in the break in period, bring the rpm's up and bring it back down. Have not had the bike on gravel roads yet, as soon as i have the 600 mile service done i will be doing a 60 mile gravel road trip up to Crown King, AZ. I will let you know after that trip, which might be this Sunday. The bike is light and nimble, low torch in 1st 3 gears which will be great off road and is very smooth for a single cylinder engine. One of the main reasons I went with this bike, is the ability to turn off ABS when going off road. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers!
Jenny- you ma’am are a freakin rock star! what an awesome tutorial on these cool mods. Nathan- great video...totally subscribed to the channel. And to the rest of these comments in here that really have no place- just remember The video is about the bike and the great instruction on modifying it not the person (and their gender). Some people’s children SMH
Glad you enjoyed it as much as the other 50k viewers have. It was an amazing experience to have her here to do the build in person with her commentary and experience. We loved it!! Cheers, ~Nate
Hello Jenifer, I really enjoy your demonstration of the new parts for the BMW G310 gs I am a new rider and I looked at this particular bike to be the first bike I really like the changes you made in the suspension system since this would be my first bike for slow speed drills and the versatility since I live in the city of Chicago my state's primary Prairie, but I do see myself doing other things I'm 6 foot tall and 300 pounds. If you have any suggestions for me to be greatly appreciated. PS since I haven't purchased the bike yet, what would be the cost for the total set up as an estimated cost I probably would have to change the handlebars so I could stand once again thank you for great presentation
I’m continuing to improve my technique and appreciate your advice. Awesome that you are catching my videos all the way from Bangkok! You’ll see your advice at work in future videos. Cheers, ~Nate
Hi, I just saw your awesome video, I love every explanation, I want to convert my gs310 in the near future, but I like to start with the handlebar, do you have any particular recommendation or video about it? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
This was awesome, I loved every minute of the video, so well executed and well explained. This is very close to what I'd do to my bike, perhaps I'd leave the top case mount and add a bigger windscreen, a tank/fairing crash bar and a couple Denali lights on it as well. I've heard the little GS's headlight is kind of loose, which makes the light beam vibrate a lot, so has Jenifer fixed her headlight more firmly so it won't jiggle around? Thank you all so much for such an instructive video, I had a great time watching it.
Felipe: You have some great ideas and some that I have thought about myself. I don't know what's she has done with the light yet, if anything. Jenifer made it all the way across the country on the TAT and at the end highway to Cali without any issues with lighting so it might jiggle but it'll get you there hahaha. Cheers, ~Nate
Jenny, I have watched a few of your G310GS videos. Thanks so much for putting these videos together! I would love to hear your opinions about the G310GS vs Royal Enfield Himalayan vs Versys 300 vs V-Strom 650. I just finished watching the full 1:31:46. That was so thourough! Why did you choose the G310GS over the FS750GS or F850GS? Was it just for the size, that is, smaller adventure bike is better?
Thanks for the copious amount of information! I learned many new things. But, now, I am a little preoccupied about the process of doing the Rally Raid conversion. It seems quite detailed and complicated compared to what I had imagined and that has me thinking that a less capable person may induce mistakes along the way. Where is your shop and how much do you charge for that?
I haven't talked to anyone else in the country that's done this conversion yet but I'm sure you can find some competent people in Texas for sure!! Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, ~Nate
I’m considering several options for my next bike and at the creaky old age of 60 need something a bit smaller and lighter now; I think this has sold me on the BMW, not least because I’m an engineer and like you love to fettle and personalise my bikes 👍🏻. Oh, and not least, this all seems reasonably affordable! Need to say also well done to Jenifer for an excellent walk through and commentary, what a star and lovely example she is for women everywhere.
I personally own a G310GS, 14 months and 11,000 miles and many states later... this might be the best motorcycle I’ve ever owned. I’ve owned a lot and ridden most motorbikes available to ride, and this lil GS won me over! Cheers, ~Nate
Very, very good presentation. I'd say this upgrade is essential if you want to do any adventure riding. Thanks a bunch. …. One question: You're adding 4" of spring when you replace the spacer. Does that mean you are gaining the total gap space between the coil winding in that 4" space as additional travel? I'm just guessing, maybe 2" of additional travel or not? Oh, but maybe it depends on tube length. Hum.
Hi John - although the new spring is longer, the overall travel is dictated by the length of the damper rod inside the fork, which remains the OEM part. What the new spring gives you is more compliance throughout the range with less chance of coil-binding, and the linear rate is more accurately controlled by the damping throughout the whole length of the stroke.
1 question do you not think it would have been wise to grease the swingarm and linkage bearings while you had the bike that far tore down? Great video I watched it all!!👊👍
oldschooldirtbiker: The machine she was working on was brand new but you do have a good point to hit high maintenance areas and keep pivots lubricated when you have the machine tore down. Cheers, ~Nate
Great video Still on the fence about a G310GS or F750GS. Dont think I'll ride to often, and not a ton of off road, just trails and the road to get to the trails.
@@NateJennings 6ft 1inch about 190 lbs That's part of why I'm considering the 750 as the 310 may be just too small Havnt riden since 2003 And only road for about a year back then
I would install them on the machine if I am using them for touring, you will sacrifice power but it has the load capacity for it and you have to carry your goodies for the trip!! She utilized a U Bag which still weighs the same but puts the weight on the pillion seat and rear sub frame area..she, Jenifer Morgan, made it across the country without any power issues!! Cheers and thanks for commenting. ~Nate
Great video. My question is what kind of boots do you wear to ride this 310gs? And did you end up switching to and adjustable shifter pedal because of what you wear? I just got a 310. Starter bike for me and Im debating on what boots to use. Thank you. Im from Guatemala beautiful gravel roads here ;)
This is Nate, I’ve been traveling the country on my G310GS for the last two years and have been wearing the sidi adventure 2 boots whether city riding in the Capitol or playing in motocross parks in central California, they’ve offered superior protection and all weather comfort. I hope this helps, and let me know if you need a riding buddy in Guatemala! cheers, ~Nate
Where can I get fully upgraded photo to see how it looks after upgrading. 1 hour 30 min but no clear video of the bike. At the end u put the bike on the trees shadow intentionally? I guss
Hi Nathan, great video. I couldn't find the engine guard the Jenny fitted at the beginning of the video. Please can you post a link to it? Can't see it on Rally Raid's website and it is going to be my first mod to my new baby GS. Thanks.
Nathan Jennings any new word on if it’s out. AWEEEESOME VIDEO! Thanks Jenny for the thorough explanations and Nathan for the awesome video. Going to be grabbing one of these bikes soon and I’m going to start amassing the parts. Also, in total- how much did the level 1 mods cost ?
I had drive that 310 GS yesterday but i don't like it at all. It's very nerves drive. It's a very Good build bike and seems nice but, i would prever a automatic gearbox like a scooter.
This model only has one fork Leg you can upgrade unless you get an upgraded cartridge kit for both sides. I just found one abs about to have it installed soon
I actually suffered the same problem, attempted to purchase a kit and never heard back from them even after doing this video for them. I did have other customers who found contact and ordered the parts but paid a huge shipping fee. I did my own build and put together the G310GS Nate Dogg style which in very happy with. All the parts are out there and that gives you the option to upgrade and modify the way you want to. Sorry for the problems getting a quick order 310 rally raid kit. Cheers, ~Nate
Good day! This is Nate, I’ve been off building my own G310GS abs riding it around the country for the last couple years since getting out of the motorcycle industry. I am currently getting the suspension upgrade I’ve had friends find for me as the rally raid parts have been hard to get and hard to get responses from via their website. The only upgrade I haven’t done is the spoke wheels, which I’m ready for now, as I bent the front during an extra excursion on the Colorado BDR. I am planning on staying how to videos myself on the G310GS accessories install and servicing. You can see my bike in recent videos and feel free to contact me with direct build questions. Thanks for watching, cheers, ~Nate
OMG..thnx for vid,too much details..yes;the the RallyRide kit and other mods turn this bike to real GS..Beautiful Adventure Tourer Bike..but the cost is really high, and frankly don't know if it worth..!
SoloRide ZX wheels and suspension are the main area's. The stock is nice for highway use. The different springs fitted for off road would make less enjoyable riding on road. And unless going off road spoked wheel are heavy expensive tubed disadvantage. They could have probably done 2 versions. Like the ktm 690 smc. And 690r
Chris Hart true said..we know that the 310 is meant directly for take share from Asian market in this catogery,..yes;the main parts are what you mention, it's most depend on the type of terrain..if you love this mini 'GS' then most of these mods are essential..the conversion is awesome,it's much expensive but that the way it's if you seeking Adventure,to stand alone, not feeling shy when park beside other Big Brothers..! Can Jenny make videos about basic bike service,..and how do..like replace tyre..She explain well..?!
SoloRide ZX i would defiantly get the wheels. And sump guard. The exhaust is hard to justify. And suspension is always such a compromise for different situations i don't very often bother.
Hi Chris - actually the Rally-Raid/Tractive suspension makes the on-road ride and handling much better too, as the damping is far better controlled and the revised [stiffer] spring rates mean it doesn't blow though all of it's travel quite so quickly. The Rally-Raid spoked wheels are available tubed and also tubeless too. See their web-shop for more information.
The upgrade is great and I appreciate the work done but I think that spend money on that bike and also on the Rally Raid kit is too much... For a 300cc for occasionally off road use or for beginners on ADV bikes I think Kawasaki Versys 300X will be a better option.
There was an option to go tubeless but wasn’t yet produced at the time of the video. The ones in the video are tubed. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, ~Nate
OMG, you should have saved a ton of cash and just bought a WR250R!!! You did a heck of a job to turn that thing respectable.... I turned my Husky 450fe into an enduro to ride with my son's WR250r...probably equal the cost of that 1 BMmmmmr.
Lawman FL the g310gs has much more use than a wr250. Wr250 is just a bicycle with an engine. This bike has wide tyres stability weather protection. Luggage carrying ability. Carries more fuel. Has more features space and power.
Different bikes suit different people's needs - there is room for everything. The WR250R is a great bike, and can be made surprisingly comfortable/capable as a longer-distance dual-sport machine with a few choice accessories and upgrades. That said, the 310GS is a very good [better] on-road machine, as well as pretty handy off-road with the right modifications too. Check out Blancolirio's Moab video on RU-vid too.
Chris Hart .... jump on a WR and try it you'll be pleasantly happy and save $10,000. For the price in that 300 bmw with accessories you can by a tiger 800. I own a BMW 1600 but just can't see the value in that 300. Cheers🇺🇸
Lawman FL i fully agree this bike cost near the price of the f800gs with these parts. A bike that already has better suspension high level exhaust and wire wheels stock. I would have thought a wr250 would have cost more than this both new standard off the floor. Wr250r $7k ish
Chris Hart ...yes i paid $7,000 out the door. Great gas millage and great off road. Tons of after market parts but perfect without them. I love BMW but this is crazy price. I would get a Triumph 800 Tiger😉
I rode a 310 . They are so under powered. All this extra weight will kill it. You can tell that people realize this because I have seen used ones for sale with under 1000 miles on them. They are made in India and one ride you can feel the cheapness instantly. Buy a used 650gs or the 800gs and you will be much happier.
Sir , you are an idiot. Not everyone wants a heavy, higher power bike. So many times when the going get tough the little ünderpowered" bikes are the ones that get through the easiest.
