My 2018 Ford F-150 5.0L V8 has a rattle coming from the Variable Cam Timing solenoids when the engine is cold and the driver lifts throttle around 2,000 rpm. Ford claims it is "normal" after first issuing a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB 18-2354) mentioning "some vehicles" having this noise.
Battlefield Ford has traced the noise to the Variable Camshaft Timing solenoids, but is being told by Ford's hotline/corporate to not attempt any repairs. My truck has been out of service for 47 days with no resolution to this incredibly annoying rattle, which I hear every morning as I leave my apartment's parking garage for my daily commute.
I am one of 100+ owners facing this problem, as discussed on F150Forum.com:
