Now you know the problem we all have had with the 2018 Goldwing. The Nav system needs to be reworked or replace with a Garmin. Honda made the Nav system. Not intuitive at all

"If I could just get off of this LA Freeway without getting killed or caught..." I used to live in Marin up north, those kind of roads were my backyard. I couldn't deal with that traffic in LA, every hour of every day. No thanks. I think it's very cool Honda made it up to you in this way. Makes sense, given your main viewership would be looking to upgrade and slow down a bit in a few years, but still very cool. Also, love the honest feedback given the situation. Although, coming from you, I'd expect nothing less. Good set of videos.

Thank you for showing me how to put in the address. I usually use my iPhone and car play but would like to use the built in as well.

Great video I watched the whole thing, thanks! Very well done, great commentary and great scenery! One comment -> Lane splitting any time anywhere is insane!!! I have a friend who was badly injured in LA doing that. Never road again. Way too risky. I noticed in the video at one point someone changed lanes into your path unexpectedly. I'd rather sit in traffic for an hour than do that. Where I live its actually illegal.

its not a sporty bike> not supposed to be one. so why on earth would you try to make a comparison between the goldwing and a sporty bike in the "canes"?

It was obvious to me the first time I went to enter an address in the Nav to start with the state. Maybe because I think in terms of search area and so started with confining that search area to the state first. Then I entered the ZIP and from there it automatically took me to the street and finally the street number. The next time I went to enter a destination, the Nav pre-filled the state and I could skip that part. Sure, you can also skip the ZIP but by going directly to the city name you'll have a larger database search for the street name. I'm sure that's OK most of the time but I like to enter the ZIP as the first item after the state to narrow the search. Narrowing the search using ZIP means less opportunity for conflicting names which means less text entry before finding a match. OK. Let me now take the Nav discussion another step; I have an iPhone and I have access to Apple Car Play. Apple Maps on Car Play is useless for simply cruising and knowing where you are. Maps keeps changing its zoom level and it drove me crazy. But its great if its guiding you somewhere. And, it's great that you can have Maps guide you somewhere simply by pressing a button and asking Siri to take you somewhere. You can do that while rolling down the road. So, my workflow (after a little over a week of owning a 2018 GW Tour DCT) is to use the Nav provided by Honda for reference as I travel without a programmed destination and use Maps for easy destination entry via Siri and guidance from Maps. For the Nav, the zoom level stays rock steady but i can change it when I come to a stop by simply rotating the main center knob. Also, I've gone into its setup and set the Nav to always display the night colors. For me, it's much better to see the streets and street names in night mode no matter the time of day. When I need guidance to go somewhere I simply press the button to summon Siri and tell her where I want to go and it switches to Maps and sets the destination. Here's another tip if you don't know already; you can set the guidance voice in the Nav separately from the audio level of any music you may be playing. I like that, with Apple Car Play, I can using the Nav to just cruise and know where I am but have access to Siri to control music from my plugged-in iPhone. I can independently set the audio level of the music playback and independently set the level of the voice guidance from the Nav. I haven't tried to independently set the guidance voice level on Maps yet. Also note that music levels for speakers and headset are also independent. When I use the Nav for destination guidance it works very well. But, it has the quirk of pronouncing streets strictly as they appear in text. I approach W. Parker St and the Nav says "Take a right on double-u Parker S.T." Strange that in this advanced time for guidance it doesn't naturally pronounce that turn as "West Parker street".

Nice vid as usual. I thought the traffic was bad in our area !!! Lane splitting seems to be a required skill set to get around in that area.

The Gold wing is not made for canyon carving. Just as sport bikes are not made for cruising a couple of hundred miles in a day.

Watching your struggles with the GPS, I can only assume you don’t have an iPhone. I own the Gold Wing and I use the iPhone CarPlay exclusively for my GPS duties, and it works perfect!

Hello Bryan. First of all, I just want to express how much I appreciate and enjoy your videos. Last month, I went ahead and purchased my very first FJR. It is a 2005 ABS model. I love every minute of riding this bike. However, I just have a question about the rear brake. The other day, I was on an uphill stopped at a light. So I had my foot on the rear brake. All of a sudden, the pedal started to sink down. Next, the wheels started to turn as if the rear brake was losing grip. Have you ever had a problem like this? I hope I can resolve this issue relatively soon. Thanks in advance for your help.

I heard Harley Nav System was bad. They should give you a complimentary cell phone holder when you buy one of these to use Google Maps.

I'd crap my pants lane splitting on a Gold Wing... I could say things like why do you need to lane split on a liquid cooled bike? especially one with no clutch! and that lane splitting was originally concieved for air-cooled bikes in traffic, but I won't, Thank god it isn't allowed everywhere or cycle insurance would be through the roof

That thing needs to have a touchscreen, did you notice if you can use your Bluetooth headset to navigate?

Bro, you struggled with the GPS.......You have an iPhone....Why didnt you just plug it in as the bike has apple car play...You couldnt have simply told Siri where you wanted to go and navigate there. Just sayin'!

Touchscreen is much more user friendly.
