I had the worst experience ever at Daly Land Rover. I took my Range Rover there for a service and took it back after the diesel streamed out of the front where I discovered they never tightened the diesel filter and the air filter was so badly fitted that the bonnet would not close properly. When I complained to the manager he told me I'm not a client of he's because I did not by my Range Rover from Daly and I must get out of he's office and have my car serviced at a other Land Rover service. After complaining to Land Rover South Africa I got no response and I am now left with no other option than social media. Jacques Wolmarans
Hi Peter, I like this car but why team up with Panasonic for the on-board interface that's cost a small fortune but won't work with Apple car play or Android car play that will put customers off it's a great car and I love the styling but it's not for me just don't get it sorry Peter but NO. Regards Alan B
twitty camies Hi I also have Apple car play in a Ford Smax and it works well I don't have any major complaints but the point I am trying to make is they have developed this car and have given Panasonic a wagon full of cash and yet it fails to cover the basic needs in the modern day car I just can't compute how that has been allowed to happen in such a nice spec car. Regards Alan B
I'm glad it's working out for you Alan, I suppose my main issue with CarPlay is that it is sub par for an Apple product. The podcasts app continually either doesn't work or crashes the whole interface requiring me to unplug the phone this has been going on since I got it two years ago. It could be so much better. From what I understand CarPlay and android auto are coming to the new Range Rovers via software update. Regards.
I really want one there so nice they are so stunning although my mum got a new car already I really want one I'm a massive fan of cars and I'm 10 years old
Hi Pete.. well I've put my name down for one. My dealers got 3 in at the moment and I'm looking forward to testing it out shortly. Beautiful looks... shame about CarPlay! Are they mad?!
Another DANGEROUS CAR launched onto our roads ! Where's the demist button the driver says, as he's swerving all over the road, trying to locate a small fiddly touchscreen button, but the driver of this 2 tonne+ plus vehicle will be ok, as there's zillions of airbags to protect them. This really has to STOP, cars are getting more and more DANGEROUS TOUCHSCREENS instead of physical knobs, touchscreens may look flash, but they're guaranteed to make you crash !!!!
This video was great! I had ordered my Velar about 2 months ago and was waiting for a proper video to give me the full extent of what I was going to get. This video had my exact Coris Grey color, black 21" rims but mine will be the P380. I have about 30 days until I sit in mine. Kind of a kid waiting for Christmas now.
I tested one of these and had ordered a se dynamic 3 litre v6 engine but it just didn't do it for me, The outside looks great, but inside let it down a lot of tacky plastics and the leather stitching on the seats weren't great, especially the quality build especially when your spending over 70,000 for one, I did order one then quickly councelled it when I test drove a Volvo XC90, The interior of the car will blow your mind makes the velar look like it's been thrown together, I would strongly recommend looking at a Volvo XC90 first.
New model ... it'll be plagued by even more problems than the existing models which are the last word in unreliability Plenty of room in the back ?? Can't get an adult behind the drivers seat without your knees jammed into the backrest
After 3 years this thing will cost you a small fortune in repairs if you are stupid enough to own one...90% of the drivers of these will never even take them off road. It will appeal to the Chelsea Tractor brigade and be worth a lot less than half price after 3 years. Avoid like the plague unless you have more money than sense.
a 70 thousand euro restyled freelander 2......its a shit car that will cannibalize the range rover sport for the suckers who will let land rover , put their hands in their pockets
I'd change career if I could get 300k views on a video, respect where it's due ! If I may say this is a very good review, well put together, great information, top level reviewing, little wonder this video is so well received. I see that 172 other reviewers of this car have given their thumbs down to this video :-)
I only had 15 mins with the car and a 10 mile drive 😜 Just happens to drop the video the day after the press embargo lifted. It did 100,000 views in a week 😳 I wish I could repeat that magic 🤔
It looks nice Ped on the outside, and its a good review, but the whole everything touchscreen thing. Its quite alarming for me, because as Im currently saving up my pennies for a proper Range Rover, my fear is they will redesign the proper Range Rover interior to be like this and I pray they don't as this is not really my taste and its too "spaceship" . Also, the handbrake being by your knee is not very intuitive really. Can't say Im a fan of the Velar. I think I'd go so far as to say I'd prefer an Evoque over a Velar and that is a sentence I never thought I'd utter....
I don't know about this car... It looks like a nice car outside, but inside... I just can't like it. I just hope they don't apply this "style" and I use that term loosely to the whole range.
This Velar is missing some basic luxury appointments and is expensive as hell, but dammit if this is not the best looking SUV I've ever seen. The designer of this did just an outstanding job. I am not a LR at all but I would humor this one for its amazing looks. Bravo
Oooh, can't say I like all the white in the interior, especially on the steering wheel, horn button, head rests, seats and door panels, with all the natural oils on our skin, hair etc that is going to look grubby in no time. All the areas that receive the most contact are brilliant white. I can imagine someone who buys one with this particular interior is going to regret it later.
it's certainly big shame with no apple or android integration with 2018 approaching really fast...what they were thinking or they were not thinking at all ?
Hate to carry anything heavy and awkward in this car, why ? because the boot floor has a huge step down to floor level !! poor design and not practical.
Aden RossiniIgnorance is bliss ! Look in up if you have the tech in your part of the world .. This was my input from my perspective ' Quite frankly I do not give a damn what you think ..
I really do not like the way cars are going with full screens for everything. It is slow, laborious, it is not saving anything environmentally over normal dials and it means more things to go wrong. Inevitably in a Range Rover what can go wrong, will go wrong eventually as they are hugely overrated vehicles that are quite unreliable. For what you pay for one, they are not worth the bucks you spend your money on. If you must have a 4WD SUV, then the following are best suited to you. 1. Volvo XC60 and XC90. Not only are they cheaper than a Range Rover, but the build quality is higher, the engine line up is superior and they do that T8 Engine which the likes of Range Rover can only dream of developing. Range Rovers P400 Hybrid engine is a joke in comparison to the T8 Volvo Hybrid lump. No brainer. 2. The new Volkswagen Touareg. Will have off-road capability to nearly as good as a Range Rover. It looks better, has better engine line up, is better build quality and is cheaper. No brainer here as well. 3. Mercedes-Benz also have a few great offroaders that I feel are just better than Range Rover. Reality is, if you buy a Range Rover, unfortunately you are buying into poor build quality, hugely overrated vehicles which I would not buy, even if you held a gun to my head. OVERRATED = Range Rover.
I was never really interested in Land Rover cars. But I must say this one has got me thinking a lot about it. I'm even starting to lose interest in my Merc 😕
Should always drop the seats and see if it's flat. Makes a big difference. The Evoque is certainly not with the Dynamic seats. Something you don't realize until you own it and use it and the angle is not a good attribute.
That infotainment screen looks like a nightmare to use while driving, it needs some form of buttons or something. looks great but i can see it getting tiresome if you have to use it alot. I wonder if it will not be the leasrt reliable car in the class as well though that is not lookng hopefull with every other Land rover at the bottom of the reliability tables.
Apple/Andriod CarPlay/Auto is on its way folks, relax. Just didn't arrive in time for this MY. I think the ICE is super futuristic, standard across the range is great for consumer and let's keep in mind, the 'alleged' infotainment benchmark, Tesla, don't support CarPlay/Auto either....
Hi Peter, they already have a new interface that works well why Change it and spend more and it fails to work with or phone as I say it's a great looking vehicle would you compare this to a SQ or Q5 also what other vehicles rack up in this sector that can off road as well as this car it's a tough one also I must apologise as not watched the Audi RS5 review but when I do you will have my comment on that the problem being I have Virgin 300Mbps with. Superhub 3 and my very own Linksys WRT3200acm but over the past 10 days it's been terrible and that's being nice so having to use the phone on 4G that screws my eyes up but hope to get back to giving you many thumbs up as ever. Your No1 supporter Alan B.
The Discovery Sport and Discovery are awful. They drive like total crap. The Mazda CX5/9 have better interiors. The Velar is amazing. When will they onboard Apple Carplay?
Pretty good piece but I want to see more of the car, that's what we're here for - to see the cars, most of the vid is of you! 👎🏻No disrespect intended, but show us around the interior, show us what an owner would see! 👍🏻
+OHM ZombieSlayer Hi There. I only had the car for a very short time before the drive and the drive itself was short and restricted. I did the best I could. If you check out some of my other reviews you will see I do as you suggest when I have longer with the car. I hope you still enjoyed it. Cheers. Ped.
How dare u say the velar is the best Range Rover, it’s a updated evoque, small engine. Nothing like a big hse or autobiography supercharged v8 is the best drive, even the sport supercharged v8 Or svr. The velar is great looking, but not that nice in person, the rear end looks weird, pretty sure the color would make a big difference, I like the black/bronze color combo.
It's the best looking Range Rover but I agree with you about the best to drive. The RR Autobiography or RR Sport SVR are simply superb. The is a Velar SVR on it's way which is going to be very good :-)
Instead of a 15 gallon fuel tank....this vehicle should have 18 (minimum). Also, the auto engine shutoff....does not STAY shut off.....it diverts to "on" every time you start it. BAD. Both of these issues need to be fixed before I order one. Also, no android auto. With these changes....it will buy one. May take a year or two. In the meantime, I will stick with my XJ Supercharged....which I love.
Stunning design and a great review Peter. Pity it has no low range. I guess you Poms will just use it to take the kids to school, which is a bit of a waste of a very capable vehicle. Sad to hear..........you don't like the new Disco. We have just ordered one. They hit the showrooms down here on 1st August. Ours arrives 17th November. It is being kitted out for the bush. Should be a little more comfortable than our 110 Puma wagon. lol
Hi Derek. Most Land Rovers never leave the tarmac over here ! I love the new Disco, I'm just not a fan of the rear. You one sounds like it's going to be VERY cool !
I was fortunate enough to have the 2.0 ltr turbo 250 bhp variant as a rental car in Florida last month and I loved it!! Now, I know that some folks will be thinking "it's a rental!!" but I don't care!! The whole family loved it!! If there was ever a chance when I change the vRS next year I could have a decent ex demo or franchise company car, then I would, without question. The one we had was virtually brand new with 1800 miles on the clock. The fuel mpg was more than acceptable in my humbuble opinion and the engine size was perfect for the size of the car, again in my humble opinion. It had the built in sat nav, but it did support Apple Car Play, which worked very well, banging stereo by the way. It was soooo comfortable, spacious, practical and the interior was gorgeous. I would have liked it if there was a hand book with the car as I was eager to find out what all the features did in the infotainment system and things like if it had heated seats etc. I never grew tired of the looks we got driving it around and had to pinch myself every time I looked out side and saw a Range Rover parked on the drive of my house (yes, I have my own place in Kissimmee. And I do rent it out if folks are interested….) Also, I would liked to have the car set up for single button opening via the fob, not having to double tap the open button all the time, but I soon got over that. My only "niggle" was that the gear box could be a little slow if I needed to make a quick get a way if I had to do a tight manoeuvre going from reverse to drive, it seemed to pause for an eternity then take of like a space shuttle..... I have to admit that this is one of a very few cars I was sad to hand back at the end of the holiday.... (except for the GT Mustang in May and the 2.0 ltr Camaro last year......LOL!!)
Not bad looking car and great review...made me laugh how you said 0-60 in 6.9 wasn't really fast....well it isn't nowadays...but that's quicker than the old Golf VR6 and my other Golf V5 170.
I’d really like one of these but I’m kind of put off when I read about the appalling reliability record of JLR vehicles. Should I be that concerned or am I over analysing it? Please help.
Looked a bot damp around th Goodwood Racecourse Ped but l agree, diesel is a perfectly logical solution for many applications. And the key to Dpf filters, is to make sure you burn them frequently. Fast high temp runs are in order. As for going electric in the future, please, we need to stop this madness.
about boot space I remember my mothers Fiat UNO being able to carry her and my fathers suitcases in the back of this small hatchback for a six week break. Please show how much full size suitcases you can really fit in the back of these 80 t0 £100k plus cars.
I’ve had one for 3 years it’s never missed a beat, also off road it is incredible as I took one on the Land Rover experience. For those asking how it compares to the f pace this is bigger and wider. Hope that helps 👍
The SQ7 is a bigger car and has the most incredible performance. Here is my review of the SQ7 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QnDdmUqQ7m8.html
Hi Peter, another great review . The interior is very nice, as you say just needs one of the tuning company's to breath there magic on it and it could be a beast Cheers Tony👍👍🏁
I can not wait to pick mine up in a few weeks!!! I've been waiting for what seems like forever for this car to be released so happy I waited Great review thank you 🤗👊🏽 #Velar
when you floored it, what was the gear changes like? did it over stretch and lose power like it does on the 2.2 evoque? the evoque engine and gear box is terrible
Nice one. Had a walk around and sit in one yesterday at our local JLR dealer, whilst dropping our Disco Sport off. Lovely interior and nice styling. Thought it looked quite big, but it was difficult to compare as it was in the showroom. Did think of bokking a cheeky test drive just to see what it was like on the road.
Great review, the Velar looks as though it should have a shifter like the one in the F Type, I'm not a rotary knob fan and that interior just looks like it needs a joystick.
Lovely car and huge fan! Having just taken delivery of my Range Rover Sport SVR I'll be looking forward to see Land Rover expand their SVR range and the Velar I'm sure would look and sound stunning!
I like your long duration reviews - like having the car for a weekend getaway or asking your viewers for points of interest over the course of a week. Personally, I think the your USP could be in the real world, interactive reviews (not a short official test route review - there are too many of these already). Ps. When doing 0-60 tests in an auto: use left foot braking, build up the revs, then release the brake.
Glad you enjoy my reviews. If I can get cars for longer I prefer that too. If you check out my Audi RS7 review I had that for a week and was able to get you guys involved. For this review I was very limited to how long I had in the car due to it being so new. You should only use that technique if launch control is fitted and this car didn't have it, otherwise to just knacker the clutch and brakes ;-)
Nice review Pete. .Rear lights have a Porsche look about them. looks stunning in and out. one other thing are you aware the volume on the music you use to split the different bits of film footage is so much louder than the rest of the vid!!
Hi Peter, great review and goes a long way to reinforce that placing an order for one in February 2017 was the best decision ever made! Fortunate enough to take an identical demonstrator out on both country lane and motorway test this very week and its been worth the wait! Roll on September delivery!!
Hey P.R. Could you please sit in the back seat and show us the packaging for 80,000 bucks?? i want to see what my guests will experience also (and maybe i'll sit in the back too!!). Please, no more reviews without back seat views. Thanks.
watching the video, looked like you had a lot of head room. I built mine and it arrives in 3 weeks...can't wait. Carpathian grey, black package, 21'' wheels
The screens would just be unreadable in the desert are they waterproof? The car is way overpriced in the UK disrupting the other products in the range. Conclusion the management are failing dispite innovation at engineering level in the comapny. The marketing department needs multiple sacking as they have failed for years. This car should have been launched as a hybred but jaguar has failed to keep up with its competitors on such developments.we should see if the new small e type electric vehicle will adopt credtable electric technology for this car.
I love this truck. As soon as you said it doesn’t have Apple car play I know I won’t be buying one. This is one the most popular phones and they leave it out is ludicrous!
Petrol Ped I went searching on the internet and there is an app they do use for all devices. It’s called justDrive, an app technology that integrates multiple smartphone apps into a single voice activated in car experience. The article said 2014.
