Truly enjoyed the video. I purchased a Sport Glide last week at Bald Eagle Harley Davidson in Marquette Michigan. Ordered the Stage 4 kit without hesitation after looking at the torque and horsepower curves. I have been riding Harleys for 47 years and im sure this one will prove to be the most capable. I purchased a new 2016 Roadster and installed the stage 4 with a 2:1 pipe and it is superb. I think HD nailed this one as a multi task transporter. Lighting, ABS, and Cruz Control are a huge standard bonus on this model. Now I will have to wait till the snow melts in May. I will be following this site in the future. Just happened to run into it on RU-vid. Just a FYI, I am putting on a black Bassani 2:1 on my ride. Thanks for all you do. Beaver
Great job. I've had my eye on the sport glide and researched the Stage 4 thru the online forums. Glad you did a test. Also nice to finally see a test where the sound has been liberated as well. I think this one is on the shopping list in a month or so. Morgan and Wacker also rego in NSW and QLD. I would fly up from Sydney and ride it back. This is a great option for buyers as well..!!
Another Bassani header drags the street. I can’t understand how people keep falling for this. Maybe it was a rush to market but it seriously reduces lean angle, which is already tight, but dragging header before pegs is “no bueno”
Hi David. I'm interested to know how tall you are? I'm 6'3 and have been riding Harleys now for 20 years. My first was a roadking, then a street glide special and currently a roadglide ultra cvo. I don't tour enough to make the roadglide worth the weight pain, even though it's a lovely bike. Seriously considering trading to the sport glide. Thanks in advance
more walk around would be nice. I think bassani exhaust does not look good on this bike. its short for bagger. Rinehart 2 into 1 is the style which will fit its design the most, imo.
Just slapped money down on my new Sport Glide with Stage 4..! Only thing is, I can't find a chrome 2 into 1 pipe. The Bassini is a brushed/polished alloy and doesn't match the chrome on the rest of the bike... Maybe a bit early in the model run for the after market to catch up.. :(
I went back and had a look at the bike today - the Bassani has about the same cornering clearance as the footpegs. Some of what I thought was footpeg scraping was actually the exhaust system hitting the tarmac. Reinhart don't have anything?
Two Brothers do a similar pipe to Bassini. Reinhart don't have anything yet nor V&H. Harley Canberra told me a lot of the parts for the M8 Lowrider or Streetbob will fit the Sport Glide [seats etc]. Early days. I might make do with the Screaming Eagle street cannon slip on until Thunderheader, my preferred pipe, come up with an option. Cheers David
Suggest at the speed and rev range you were at (that we see in the video), the Stage III would have been even better or more fun. How loud are the pipes compared with V & H pro pipes, assuming you've experienced the pro pipes in other HDs?
Yeah - that's because of the Police presence. But it was just a quick spin and it gives 'some' indication of what it can do. Given a better location (speed limits) and the ability to screw it on harder it would be seriously good. Even so, the Stg 4 was very tractable and handled nanna pace really well without bogging down or complaining. (I did give it a few decent squirts - but they don't go on you tube for the reasons you allude to). The Bassinai is quieter than the V&H. If it was mine I would choose something else. Probably the Reinhart 2-1.
The Bassaini scrapes before the pegs! I did S&S EPA legal 2 into 1 on my Sport Glide with stage 3 Harley Pro tune & dyno to retain my 2 yr unlimited mileage warranty. HDs don’t have an overdrive gear which limits their ability to gear for both best acceleration and best Interstate / autobahn cruising. Worse HD didn’t pick good compromise gearing for a decent final drive ratio as they did in the past. Instead they geared it for maximum highway economy with a tall 2.79 final drive ratio. Which as we know kills acceleration. Factory sprocket & pulley choice was 32/66 to get the 2.79 final drive ratio in 1 to 1 6th gear. I got a 30 tooth for a Trike and had it turned down to the same width as the 32. When put with 70 tooth pulley this makes for a 3.15 final drive ratio IE a good balance between acceleration & highway cruising. This makes such a difference even a Harley pro tuned on the dyno stage 2 power cam might accelerate as hard as a stock geared stage 4 at significantly less cost & work. Let’s talk power band and speed. The stock cam makes peak TQ at 3k the stage 3 at 3,500. Stage 4 I believe above 4K! The lack of low end torque of the stage 4 would benefit the most in terms of drivability. With the 30/70 or 3.15 final drive ratio you would be turning 3,300 rpm at 80 mph IE in the meat of its peak torque for stock through stage 3 cams. 🙂. Speedometer correction can be done through the tuner. Now you have an efficient hard running Sport Glide. Food for thought.
