Fellow Michigander here wondering how they are holding up after a couple winters on them. I have to replace the front suspension on my 2016 Pro. These have been on the list under fox and icon, but have now jumped to the top after your review video and talking about the anodized coating. Rust is obviously a huge concern of mine living in the mitten.

Thinking of similar set up but with 285x70x17 KO2s (I noticed you're running 275s). Any issues with tires rubbing? Did you have to do any kind of body mount chop or modification to avoid tire rubbing? What was the deciding factor for you to go with BP51 over others in similar price range? (FYI, I got ideas from your videos about Raingler and Canvasback to protect the trunk area from my big dog as well) Thank you for posting very useful information for fellow 5th gen T4R ORP owners..

Hopefully despite it being a month old, this question will catch your attention. How was your 275 KO2 fitment pre lift? Any rub worth mentioning? I know fitment varies from T4R to T4R, meaning you can get very different results from two identical vehicles. It just seems info is all over the place regarding 285s where some only need to move the liner and massage the mud flap, some need to add trimming the bumper to that mod list and going even further there are those who've required the BMC. Others swear it needs to be lifted. I really want to go 285s on my TEP(same wheels as TRD ORP), but a lift isn't in the cards for a long while so I'm just not sure if I want to take the gamble on them only to find out mine is one that would need the BMC. Even then I'd be going a bit simpler with the Billy 5100. On the same note if I'm going to need to relocate the liner and mudflap for 275s I might be more inclined to go ahead with the gamble but if 275s are a perfect fit then I think that's the safer option.

Your BP 51s are exactly why I went with the standard OME for my Tacoma. No need for upper control arms. They’re better than stock yet simple without hoses and fittings and joints to rust and wear. All that being said I miss my 4.0 L Tacoma and would think about going to a forerunner (for our puppy)if they just updated the dash and make it more third GEN Tacoma like.

Just got my BP51s installed, rides 👌. Whats do you have yours set at? Running stock wheels, 275/70/17 KO2s.. Zero rubbing even flexed.. love that i can keep mud flaps and a good footprint without compromising mpgs.

Question. Are those diode dynamic lights wired so they emit white light on the DRL setting, or parking light setting? I have a '16 4Runner, and recently moved to the UK. In the process of converting the lights over to be UK compliant, and having something like that bulb wired to do away with the amber parking lights would be perfect.
@brandonj3556
@brandonj3556 6 лет назад
Ben Upton I have switchbacks in my 2016 trail, they simply replace the stock turn signal bulb. They will be white for parking light and flash amber for the turn signal. Has nothing to do with the drl. You will have to add a resistor to stop hyper blinking.

Awesome video on the 4runner. I'm in the market for a new 4runner after a drunk driver totalled my last one. I'm sold on the Off-road premium, found a used one with KDSS... Wondered what your opinion is on that system? I plan on lifting it 2-3 inches like you have and I'm worried KDSS might make it difficult. I'm wondering if staying away from the KDSS option and just going stock off road premium is the best way as I'll be adding my own lift and wheels anyway. Was hoping you could offer some advice. Thanks & subbed.
@ApexReviewsOfficial
@ApexReviewsOfficial 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching Keltik! I was in the same boat as you when I was purchasing this 4Runner! In the end I decided against the KDSS system for two reasons. The first being that I didn't want to add complexity to a vehicle that I was initially attracted to due being fairly "simple" compared to most of the cars on the road. All told they're kind of the dinosaurs of the SUV world, and it's something that I really enjoy! Also, I didn't want to be restricted to certain lifts that were compatible with KDSS. In my personal opinion, I would definitely opt FOR the KDSS system if you were going to leave the 4Runner stock, but once you start to change the geometry of the suspension, I feel the value of the system is somewhat lost in translation. I hope this helps! Again, this is just an opinion. I'm sure others would disagree, but I suppose that's what makes the world interesting. Regards, Apex Reviews

Michael Colozzi I put 55w 6000k HIDs from HIDextra.com in my 2016 Trail and am very happy with them. They match the factory led foglights and my led light bar perfectly. I installed led in the high beam for the instant on/off.

@@michaelcolozzi7286 Michael you can do the DRL mod which disables the DRL. I did it to my truck because I cannot stand the DRL location. It looks so goofy using the High beams at low voltage for DRL's. I love the look of the corner ambers as a DRL way better. So I have 55W HID 6000K low beams, 6000K LED high beams for instant ON/OFF, and 6000K LED Fogs all from Headlight Revolution. Way better lighting and look. Have never been flashed. Hope this helps. did you notice any loss in power and mpg going from 265 to 275? and are those load range C or E? thanks
@ApexReviewsOfficial
@ApexReviewsOfficial 5 лет назад
CD, thanks for watching! I didn't noticed a large decrease in power with the new tires. I'm sure there was some due to the extra weight of the K02's, but it wasn't anything I immediately noticed. The K02 rang in at 55 lbs per tire, versus the stock tire (Dueler H/T) weight of 39 lbs. They are E Load tires, so a portion of that weight is attributed higher ply rating. I was concerned about the E load tires myself, since I thought they would be "overkill" for the 4Runner, but after driving on them for the past 14,000 miles, I cans say that they are a pleasure to live with day to day. With the current BP-51 Suspension and KO2's it rides really well and 85-90% of the nose dive that it had from the factory is gone. There is still some body roll, but it has been improved significantly (non-KDSS). I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please feel free to reply. Take care, Apex Reviews
@TrailRunn4r
@TrailRunn4r 5 лет назад
@@ApexReviewsOfficial thanks for the detailed reply! Yes, my only concern is the E rating of the 275s which I'm afraid will make the ride a bit less smooth than the 265s, other than less fuel efficient. I wish bfg would still make 275 C rated... 😅

Absolutely! I am very happy with the KO2 overall. They performed well in all forms of precipitation here in Michigan. While not as good as a dedicated snow tire in the cold months, they performed above expectations for an all-season tire. Charlie, they added the red recessed lettering on the TRD Pro skid plate withing the past couple years. I just did a bit of research and you can pop the lettering out, but it will have a few holes that will need to be plugged. I would recommend checking eBay for some used stock if you'd prefer the older style. You may be able to find a new boxed unit if you're lucky. Nice 4Runner who did you buy your suspension through?
@ApexReviewsOfficial
@ApexReviewsOfficial 5 лет назад
Thank you David! I purchased the suspension through Toytec, but to be quite honest, I wasn't impressed with the customer support after the sale. I would recommend calling ARB direct and purchasing the kit from one of their other distributors. They'll also provide the correct part numbers for your 4Runner since the one Toytec provided me had a make shift fix included instead of the proper drop bracket that ARB provides for the 4Runner application. For other systems, I'm sure Toytec would be fine, but for the BP-51, I would look elsewhere. EDIT: The proper bracket can be seen on the thread below. It's a nice solid piece of metal. Instead of this, Toytec sent me some aluminum spacers to "drop" the factory bracket. www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/245902-arb-sway-bar-rub-fix-bp-51-fit-kit.html

@ApexReviewsOfficial 4 года назад
Hello Agent K (I like the name!). In my case, the 4Runner was a daily driver for the past ~2 years, but has recently became the "weekend warrior" for us. It's a great day to day vehicle, but with my relatively long commute to work, it wasn't the most economical vehicle to drive. I'd say most people buy the 4Runner as a daily driver, and it is well suited for the task. Overall the vehicle is a great performer out of the gate, with our only dislike being the nose dive we had under braking when it was stock. If you purchase one, try one with and without KDSS so you can make in informed purchase. If one with KDSS is unavailable in your area, the nose dive can be remedied with slight suspension mods. I wish you the luck in your search for a new vehicle. I hope the 4Runner works well for your needs!
