@@elisorrells5314 Yeah, that would be a catchy new opening for sure! Although I've kind of gotten used to his signature line "Alright, what up guys? My name is Zack.... and today, I'm super excited to be driving this 2018 Toyota Yaris for a couple of reasons..."
@@elisorrells5314 Well, John Davis is due to retire soon, so many if Zack wouldn't mind relocating to Ownings Mills, Maryland, he could replace John! 😜
I daily drive a 2010 Yaris. Has 186,000 miles on it so far and it still runs smooth as ever! Basic oil change, tire inflation, and rotation every once in a while is literally all it needs
Your rear seat reviews are much more interesting than certain other reviewers. You rarely make a joke of it, so it doesn't really get old (like certain other reviewers) As an horizontally larger guy I appreciate them.
1:28 ahhh yess the good 'ol 1NZ. Here in my country that engine is legendary, nearly as famous as the Great 2JZ. It's efficient, very reliable and cheap to maintain. If you go to Thailand people are slappin' huge turbos on these things and making like 200+ horsepower. I drive the 2013 Toyota Yaris TRD Sportivo (NCP91). Lovely little car, comfy & fun to drive. Has a decent audio quality too which is nice to take on a chill night drive.
Fun fact, In 2018 Toyota gave the Yaris a facelift, and immediately discontinued the Yaris, which makes these 2018s pretty rare (the Yaris iA, which was discontinued in 2020, is just a rebadged Mazda)
We have a 2010 Yaris and a 2003 Echo, which is the predecessor of the Yaris with the same running gear. The 2010 is an automatic, the 2003 Echo is a 5 speed manual. The 2010 has @150,000 miles, the 2003 has 255,000 miles (on the original clutch, I might add). Both are rock solid reliable and have needed only regular maintenance up to this point. They are just fine as highway commuter vehicles- enough power and comfortable to drive. I would buy another in a heartbeat.
The previous generation felt long in the tooth that when this version came out, people had already tuned out of the conversation. Used models are rare where I live because people love these & won't let then go.
We own a 2014 Yaris in sedan configuration. I'll tell straight up That's thing's got a heck ton of potential. Driving it makes you feel that the car challenges you at every corner, but the challenge is worth the acceptance 😁 Since the yaris has not much mass in it, driving it fast makes things look scary but enjoyable. We have the smaller 1Z-FE (1.3 L), however the thing pulls the car even filled with people like a BOSS If anyone is tired with a corolla (I doubt if anyone would be), want something shrunken in size, consider the YARIS.
A little late to the party but I daily drive a 2018 Yaris LE in Canada. It is an absolute trooper of a car, having withstood two of our ridiculously cold winters without having a block heater. I have a lot of stuff in it but generally speaking, it is very fun and nippy to drive and has been relatively inexpensive to maintain. The main issue I have with it is a chronic issue with the serpentine belt, which makes a ton of noise during cold & wet, even after being replaced. l would nonetheless highly recommend this vehicle for anyone who wants or needs a reliable, relatively inexpensive car to get around in. I named mine "The Excellent" for a reason.
For me I love this car I bought it new and it’s served us so so well. The hard plastic inside is less than desired, but mostly I just wish I had apple play & also that there was better storage/ console. The smaller cup holders are too small and the large one is honestly a bit big! Where’s a good place to get a clip in console, anyone?
i have the SE version of this model & the only thing that’s different…. HEATED SEATS lol, still a decent economy box tho 👌🏽& the one thing i wish these 3rd GEN Yaris’s had, a centre dome light.
Tha Yaris is an interesting one for sure. Probably my fave out of all these little economy-centric cars. I know someone with a second gen and it hasn't failed her yet. Great cars! BTW, got any interesting Nissan's or Infiniti's coming to the channel? I've been strangely interested in Nissan lately lol.
In 2017, Toyota introduced the Safety Sense suite which is standard on all models which is great as some other automakers offer it as optional or only on higher trims on the cheaper cars. Safety Sense includes a pre-collision system with emergency braking, lane departure assist/keeping, adaptive cruise control, sway warning, and automatic high beam headlights.
If that's the 1nz fe their definitely the better engine for power, more so in terms of power to weight. Funnily enough their actually fairly easy to modify as well, a popular mod is installing a 1zz fe(1.8) throttle body and modding intake tubing along side it which actually gives it a noticeable boost in torque, nothing insane but it's makes them more fun, and they still retain good economy.
My co-worker owns a 2006 Yaris hatchback with the 4-speed auto. It's very gutless, however it only has 60,000 KM. A 16 year old car with 60,000km or 38,000 miles is very rare.
It's cheap and basic. That means there's less to break and will last longer. If you just need something economical and reliable to get from point A to point B, this is all you need. These are pure Toyota, simple and reliable. They serve a purpose and they do it well. I find it weird that Toyota can put auto high beams, lane keep assist, and all the other driver tech as standard on a
My older sister has a 2015 Toyota Yaris LE in this bright red color, she has ZERO fucks about cars and doesn’t know anything about cars and doesn’t care too know about cars, the Yaris is perfect for her and she likes it cause it’s literally a POINT A TO B transportation, she usually drives city, rarely highway so she likes it, i driven it a few times to get the oil changed or check her tires since she has Zero clue into anything maintenance, all she knows is that if the maintenance light comes on then either bug me or dad for an oil change, anyways the 2018 Yaris you reviewed has far more features then her 2015 Yaris, is the same body style but her gauge cluster has no tachometer, only speed and fuel, and her touch screen is an older touch screen from early 2010’s Toyota which still does Bluetooth and aux but in a more simple and older display, doesn’t provide mpg or anything fancy like the screen in the 2018 does, her 2015 doesn’t Have any of those sensors as well and no backup camera, interior quality is also not good either which makes sense for the price point, everything creaks and rattles already at 40mph and the engine on idle is very jittery as if the engine mounts are bad but the car only has 72k miles so I’m assuming the engine mounts Should be fine, but yeah is the perfect car for someone who never owned a nicer car and for someone who doesn’t care about cars and just wants an A to B city transportation, also you should have checked the driver door pillar to see where the car was made, my sisters Yaris was made in Toyota of France lol, a Toyota built in France for the USA market that is shipped to SoCal lol
My sister has a used 2010 Prius. She only knows full gas and full brake and only does maintenance when I notice that it needs something. She's killed the back right tire twice and drove over a concrete parking thing completely. Not her fault, but over the years it's had everything but the back passenger door and quarter panel replaced. Despite all that it still fires up every single time and has needed nothing but a new 12v battery and a brake caliper. When Toyota builds them to last, they last.
The 2009 Toyota Yaris was the rental car Walter White drove while his 04 Pontiac Aztek was being repaired after he intentionally steered his Aztek into oncoming traffic to avoid having to take Hank to the industrial laundry where the superlab was hidden in episode “Crawl Space"
The Yaris iA (formerly the Scion iA) got a 6 speed automatic transmission, it that's what you're looking for. However, it's a Mazda transmission (the entire car is basically a Mazda 2 sedan with Toyota/Scion styling.
I had a 1993 3000gt that was rusting through on the passenger side, volt meter would drop significantly when I drove through puddles, and overall I just felt so much shame and guilt for not giving it enough attention. this car was a superb upgrade, and my wallet agrees! I'm kinda surprised when I think I've spotted another Yaris on the road, it's always a Prius 😂. Real sad to hear they discontinued this model in the states, I want Android Auto!
I think suspension and insulation maybe its most obvious weak points... I did not find it out until I drive my friends' Corolla on the highway. Even that is quieter than my Yaris...
The GR Yaris is based on the 2021+ Yaris which the US doesn't get, so that kinda explains why they're not sold there. Toyota sold a few in Mexico for some weird reason though. Also, they moved the gauge cluster from the center of the dashboard to just in front of the driver. Check out any previous generation Yaris or the Echo and you'll see what I mean.
One USA car dealer doing a promotion for these when new stated they were made not in Japan but France. If so it would be indicated somewhere like perhaps the door stickers.
Always look for the injection type, direct, dual, or just port injection. Also, timing belt or timing chain. Also, interference or non interference engine. Also regular transmission or CVT which you did cover 😂 Really great presentation ! Nice work!
We lost them in canada too...sad, it was a fun little bugger in manual! Toyota should have upgraded it, the engine-tranny were from the year 2000 (yes Conan). This class of little car are going away in america and it is a bad thing....
It is using the same 1.5L 1nz-fe engine as my 09 Yaris sedan. It seems that other than added backup camera, traction control, essentially nothing has changed. Even the interior is almost the same.
I picked up a 2007 Yaris and it's great. Not sure the car's purpose was in its past life. It has no tach and manual windows, locks, mirrors and transmission. Under the steering column, there's a small red light. It never comes on and I have no idea what to do if it does.
Hi I want to buy a 2018 Yaris. I noticed most Yaris are made in Mexico and some in France. I checked the vin. What models do you have? Are they reliable?
I would rather have this with its "outdated" 4 speed automatic transmission than any of the competition with a CVT. You know it's going to last you a very long time with maintenance. Can't say the same thing about most CVTs.
@@damilolaakanni true, but it also only gets 30 to 35 MPG.. That's really not a lot, or even enough for a basic economy car Imho, a mirage can average 40mpg no problem, the Mazda2 based Yaris IA gets 38-40 easily, or God forbid a used Prius that gets 50+ no problem. My sister's base Kia soul averages 33.5 no matter how you drive it, and I live in a really mountainous area, that has a 6-speed automatic and over 30 more horsepower than this Yaris.
I'd be happy just with a 5 speed manual that can cruise at about 3,000 RPM doing 65 MPH on the highway. An inline 4 cylinder engine is about as simple and as well balanced as you can get, minimizing maintenance and repair costs.
and it has the outdated infotainment system that doesn't have Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Toyota won't update it leaving customers stuck with outdated system. Some other 2018 cars such as Honda have Apple CarPlay/Android Auto but not Toyota
@@davinp I don't mind the lack of infotainment. After driving many rentals, I find them to be a real menace along with the other gadgets and gizmos loaded in the car, especially when they bug out on the highway! Just give me a backup camera, lane change warning and a proper handbrake, and I'll be happy.
Sadly it is discontinued. There are literally no good new small cars in America. As someone who have lived in rest of the world, I hate that American market is filled with big cars. Corolla and Camry are considered small cars here
Unfortunately, this has Toyota's outdated infotainment system (same in my 2018 Corolla) that doesn't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and unfortunately, Toyota won't update it leaving customers with an outdated system. Other automakers such as Honda offered Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in 2018, but not Toyota which I didn't like. Only cars newer than 2020 have the new version of the infotainment which has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This looks like the basic model because it has the buttons Setup and Car. The plus and premium versions have the Apps & Home button instead which adds Sirius XM and Scout GPS
Sadly, Toyota has discontinued the Yaris in the United States. It never sold as well as the Corolla. It is smaller the Corolla sedan. Small cars are no longer popular in the United States/ There is a different version sold in Mexico
I had both 2011 fit brand new.....and 2014 yaris....in 10 year ownership ....as usual honda starts needing small repairs....toyota o repairs......I have had both brands and honda seems to get needy after the longer run.....brakes....suspension....ect..oh and paint on honda not as long lasting.
Ugh. An automatic. Ever since I bought my 2015 500 Abarth, I've developed a preference for manuals. Even though the Yaris only has 106 HP, you can still get it going pretty fast in the lower gears.
But Toyota passes the savings on to you! Lol! Well, it may be an outdated transmission, but at least it's reliable. I once had a rental early 2000s Dodge Neon with a THREE speed automatic. In the 2000s! That was cutting edge in the 1960s ffs!
