Hey guys,
Here is a short video of before and after installation of the Borla Atak CrateMuffler on a 2020 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3 engine. I also included some sound clips of the difference between stock exhaust the way it comes from factory and the addition of some inexpensive materials to cover the mesh screen on the exhaust as well as clamping the adaptive valve. This is a temporary solution in order to see the difference without doing any welding.

I had the Borla S cat-back installed on my 2017 Silverado 5.3 LTZ. My mother in law now thinks I need a new muffler. The S is plenty loud for me.

Great video, like the way you quickly switched back and forth in the comparison. Videos like these are hard to compare because it's easy to forget just what it sounded like the other way. Slipping in the squeak just about made me spit my water out too. Good stuff.

sounds like the valve being open/deleted has much more effect on the sound than the mesh being covered

You are correct Cody. But honestly I like it better with both removed. You can hear the difference a little more with the exhaust installed.

What are you covering the mesh sections for. That doesn’t do anything besides cover a piece of flex pipe. You really think that they would let exhaust gasses come out under the truck.

You mean that you put the Borla atak, Clamped the valve open, you did not take it off correct? Or you take off the valve? And you cover the mesh resonators, you didn't take it off correct? Or you take off the mesh resonators? Nice 👌 sound

Nice truck! I love the video. I have my ATAK muffler and I will be having it installed next week. I have the z71 package which gives you dual exhaust at the bumper so I’m interested to hear the difference (if any).

Hey just wanted to confirm BOR-400826 - Borla ATAK Series CrateMuffler now I can only find a 2.5” not a 2.75”

I wasn't sure that I was going to like it without it. So I wanted to do the same experiment once I had the exhaust on. But now I'm convinced that it needs to be gone lol.

Hey Mayco, I have a 19 silverado 5.3 trail boss lt. Bought the same muffler you did with the same diameters. BUT.... when it was installed its not nearly as loud as yours. I had an 18 silverado with an atak and loved it. This does not sound the same. My resinators are not covered but cut out the the muffler with the flap. Will covering my resinators make my truck sound right?

Dude you need to mention you have a single outlet exhaust! Most of these trucks are dual outlet!

Honestly I didn't know the 19-20 came with different options on exhaust for the 5.3. Thanks for the heads up. But it should work fine. You would have to get two of them.

Literally thin sheet of metal and clamps to try it out. But you will need welding if you want go keep the mesh screens closed.

Nice man. I like the truck a lot so I recommend it. It's a grey. Satin steel metallic. Looks dark silver on direct sun. And dark grey when out of the sun.

I left mine on. Its just clamped open. Wasn't sure if I was going to have any issues with warranty. So I just left it.

400826 Borla I just had it installed and flapper valve removed for 100 bucks. Also, covered the mesh resonators all 6 on the LT trail Boss finally sounds like a truck. Honestly on the highway it is still super quiet no drone

Did you just throw the muffler on? I talked to Borla and they were saying it would create a bunch of drone...etc..! Trying to talk me in to a cat back system or sell me a XR-1 racing muffler and telling me to add a resonator. As far as I know, the new silverados have enough resonators as is! Just looking to throw the muffler on and call it good.

Do what I did man. I don't have any issues with it. And get complements all the time. If you have a single exhaust like mine, it should work. Just make sure you order the same part. I put the link in a few of the comments above.

I agree it sounds amazing! Question. The Borla XR-1 vs Borla Atak. Have you heard the difference. The Borla service rep told me the XR-1 is throaty-er and deeper tones. I also have a 1500 LTZ 2019

Hi I have a 2020 Silverado with the 5.3 the pipes measure 2 3/4 what did you do for the inlet and outlet the mufflers inlet an outlet are 2 1/2 please let me know I love the sound of the atak or could you take pics of what the exhaust looks like all done thanks

This exhaust needs welding. The shop can close the gap when they put in the extensions. I didn't have any problems.

Welding was 90. So around 350 total. Also no problems yet. And sounds even better now.

No I didn't. It's a valve. I Simply clamped it open to make it louder.

@@maycolinares9856 You really used that muffler? That one is only 2.5 inches. The 5.3v8 is 2.75 and the 6.2v8 is 3.0

@@TruckernutzBJL Yes. I have a 5.3 and it's all I can speak for. You will need to stretch some adapters when you put it on.

Also, they didn't make this exhaust for the 2020 when I put it on. Definitely go with the 2.75 if they have one now.
