All the info you need on how to swap the 4 piston CTS-V Calipers to your veloster N. This same process should work on the elantra N and kona N, as to my knowledge they have the same knuckle size and fitment.
Video editing isn't my strongsuit, and I made a couple errors when doing the voice over, but hey! Ya learn with everything you do, and this was a fun process as I've never done a big brake swap before.

Big Ol' update for those that see this! Hello, hope you're all doing well. So after almost a year of using these brakes, I have to say, they're pretty *alright*, and just alright isn't the best thing for something like these to be. The big issue with big brakes on this platform, after hours to days to weeks of working to find a way, and to improve the brake pressure of these brakes on this car has come to an end. Thanks to advice and info from Genracer and TexasSpeed for this. The big thing about the N platform is that the amount of BBK's that actually work with this platform is insanely specific, and that's due to the fact that the brake bias and pressure amount given to each side of the car front/back is determined by the ABS system, and cannot be overridden with a proportioning valve of any kind, which is the solution I had been looking for. The only way to get these calipers to excise their full pressure is to delete ABS, and then make use of an aftermarket Proportioning valve, with no way to override the ABS system. As for now, these calipers should be done purely as a cosmetic mod exclusively, unless you delete the ABS from this car, which I personally wouldn't recommend on a vehicle used exclusively or primarily for street driving. Stay safe yall!

how much different are the 77501 and 77505 rotors from the evo. the hub looks thicker on the 77505. which one would you recommend for the stock 19" wheels that come with the veloN?
@LmaoZeroGN
@LmaoZeroGN Год назад
I wouldnt recommend running the stock 19" wheels at all, youre gonna need to use like, a 25mm spacer to fit them, which puts your drivability at a disadvantage, as well as risking a spacer cracking and putting the car and you at risk. The 77505 does appear to be a thicker rotor, but at the price i would almost say level up to go for the Stoptech slotted rotors, STO126.46076SR, since theyre a more trackable rotor, and cost barely more. I street drive on regular basic blanks since I'm not doing anything aggressive, but for track. The stoptech rotors, Castrol SRF/Endless RF650 brake fluid, and Hawk DTC30 or Gloc r12's would be the pad compound you would want to run.

@@LmaoZeroGN glad you got professional help. I went to a forum to look up information. The mounting bolts they recommended were totally wrong. Though it screwed in. It was the wrong thread pitch. Went to torque it down, never made past 40 ft lbs and totally destroyed the threads on one of my calipers. So i ended up putting a heli-coil in it.

@wung yeah it was a lot of work, the bolts... those dang dreaded bolts . 3 months solid of work and testing to figure out which ones were needed. Theyre the main reason i made this vid, not a single page had the correct ones

So no need for spacers ? Is straight forward replacement?
@LmaoZeroGN
@LmaoZeroGN Год назад
Correct. Perfect fitment, 0 spacers or brackets needed. Everything in the video is all you need. Now for wheels, get a proper offset. Stock wheels require a 20mm spacer, do not do this for your safety and ridability. Nab a +35 offset wheel if you can, or an aggressive styled +40 wheel.

@henrycastellanos5178 cant say for sure, every wheel's spokes are different. I have 1.8mm of clearance on mine, 18x8.5 +35. One of those things where i recommend a test fit of your wheels on a Lancer Evo X(front) or CTSV (rear) and see if your setup fits on those

Can you recommend stainless steel braided lines that can fit the cts v calipers?
@LmaoZeroGN

Since the lines that work on the veloster N work for the V's, the ENTHUSPEC lines would be a proper fit. Im actually going to he purchasing these at some point and doing a video for them!

@@LmaoZeroGN what is the main difference between both rotors, other than the hub looking slimmer. that's what I noticed when I opened the links and compared the two
@LmaoZeroGN
@LmaoZeroGN Год назад
@@TheLegendsman4 evo rotors are 10mm larger in diameter. But yes, are 5mm (if i remember correctly) thinner. The velon rotors are too thick and dont quite get to the top of the pad, so the evo rotors are to allow the Cts-v's to fit properly.

Swapping 4 pistons and having less bite just seems like such a waste. I get that they manage heat better but I feel like a brake duct would do the job even better
@LmaoZeroGN
@LmaoZeroGN Год назад
It's mainly the pads im using. The Street pads im using are less of an aggressive compound. If i went for cobalts or EBC's itd most likely bring back the expected bite. So it's not the most fair comparison
@hotdogy12345
@hotdogy12345 Год назад
@@LmaoZeroGN makes sense. For the price it’s a REALLY good option though I don’t think there’s a cheaper way to get 4 pistons for our cars. I remember seeing a conversion kit for the 13-16 VT on Pierce Motorsports but I guess you can do this without a proper “conversion kit”

Im curious, do we really need big brake kits or swap kits instead of better pads, rotors and steel braided lines with better fluid? Whats the differences in the gains for each path?
@LmaoZeroGN
@LmaoZeroGN 10 месяцев назад
Completely up to how hardcore you are. The stock calipers dont handle heat well, people who really throw these around FAST fast absolutely cook them. Pads and fluid are great with these cars, but at a certain point heat is gonna catch up, and that's where the calipers are limited. BBK isnt necessary for a majority of people, light to intermediate track use you're not gonna see a necessity for it. Realistically if you're balls to the wall, a BBK is going to help immensely with heat mitigation, as well as more pad/rotor options. Genracer runs an AP kit on theirs and they have one of the fastest VN's that isn't literally the TCR car.
@KendraBlackblade89
@KendraBlackblade89 10 месяцев назад
@LmaoZeroGN Roger that. Thanks for responding. Yeah I'm slowly dipping my toe into upgrading. First I did was just for fun, GFB bov... I just bought some Continental extremecontact sport 02 tires and the boomba racing lower motor mount. That's it so far but now I understand why people are going with BBKs. Not sure my daily/entry autoX will need one..... YET lol I wanna focus on carving corners first so likely won't even see a track at least for another year.
@LmaoZeroGN
@LmaoZeroGN 10 месяцев назад
Yeah dont make this your immediate upgrade, literally stock pads stock rotors are great with better fluid and braided lines. Stock pads and rotors can take a beating before needing to be retired, and they're relatively cheap (if you buy from the dealership, purchase pads and rotors for the Elantra N, as theyre listed cheaper at dealers than the VN)@@KendraBlackblade89

@LmaoZeroGN
@LmaoZeroGN Год назад
No clue, thatd purely be something to test for yourself. Ive only tried stock wheels (+55 which require a 20mm spacer) and these. And im like, barely 2mm off from scraping the calipers. Not all spoke designs are equal. But dont expect anything above 40 working

@samuelmunoz2233 Год назад
@@LmaoZeroGN how’s pad wear? And are the pads cheaper?
@LmaoZeroGN
@LmaoZeroGN Год назад
@samuelmunoz2233 depends purely on the pad youre looking for. Dealerships want $600 for VN front pads which is downright stupid. If you get pads for an Elantra N (same pads) dealer charges $140. Regular streetable pads for the V's are gonna run you around the sam, while track focussed pads will be anywhere from $200-$300. Pad wear has been fine, im just putting around, nothing insane. And really the pads will last a long time since these are regulaw hawk street pads. Once its track time ill be stepping them up to more performance oriented rotors and pads ive detailed in other comments
