I’m die hard Chevy but I actually laughed out loud when he said they tell customers to put jumper cables under the hood to raise the tail gate. Over engineering at its finest
That was said to get the truck jumped off if the battery died for some reason, which is the primary purpose.....restart the truck. Can you raise or lower power windows with a dead battery? No, of course not...same thing with the power tail gate.
They should've added vents back in 2010 like Ford. That's one of the most annoying parts of GM trucks to me is the lack of amenities for the rear seats despite trucks clearly becoming family vehicles.
The amount of stupidity in that tailgate is mind boggling. What truck buyer has EVER complained about manually operating the tailgate. Now a dead battery means you can’t even get into the bed of your truck??? What GM genius thought that up? I can’t wait to see a guy with a dead battery climbing over the side of his truck bed trying to get in his toolbox. SO STUPID. Oh and putting a lane sensor where people are going to be putting their feet isn’t too bright either. I think some heads are gonna roll over this generation.
Anthony Hernandez haha I know. They wanted to make the opening bigger for steel toed boots... and then put a lane sensor in it lol. Perfect place for some big dirty boots to beat the shit out of it.
The idiot that designed that end gate is probably the same idiot gm engineer that made it so that if the battery on a gm goes dead and you try to start it then they key is stuck in the ignition
you don't have to get the sensors , and the electric tail gate is also an option. i know this might be mind blowing but if you think these are bad features (dramatic pause) don't get them. lol
2 things are making your insurance rates go up, electronics replacement in case of failure after warranty, and uninsured drivers. This from my insurance guy just yesterday. Lighter trucks don't tow as well when the wind starts pushing your load, the weather makes traction sketchy, and your load acts against you. Love the new beds, beats the snot out of ALUMINUM
Have they made one that won’t need to be in the shop every 6 months? I’m on my last GM vehicle with our current ‘15 suburban. I gave them six chances but this is the last one.
Just love seeing that interior in videos. Looks like what a high quality truck interior should be! Very happy to see the column shift too...thank you GM
The trail boss is what chevy has always done, a fancy appearance package, just waiting for the 7 different black packages they're going to list as total different and unique packages.
For real the Trail Boss should at least be some premium dssv or other shocks. At least it’s good looking IMO. Not damn 6.2L is a deal breaker for me. GM is missing the mark keeping the 6.2L in the top trims. I don’t personally care for the 5.3L for all that money. At least it gets the 8 speed in lower trim. Compare to the competition and the 5.3L isn’t quite enough. We’ll see what this new chassis does for it.
I like all the additional bed tie downs but far and away my favorite thing on this truck, which is groundbreaking for industry safety, is the door pillar sticker listing payload and especially GCWR for the specific truck. Hopefully all other manufacturers will soon follow suit to save owners from having to go digging in the manual and trying to figure out their specific truck configuration in order to determine these numbers.
Very nice rig. My father in law has the 2017 Sierra Denali and this is very close to that even in lower trims. I’d love to have one of these in diesel for our next work truck. We have a 2012 Silverado w/t 2wd v6 currently with 197,000 miles.
GM continues to sling mud at Ford over aluminum yet their trucks are becoming more and more aluminum. They make fun of Ford then they copy them years down the road and claim their version of Ford's idea is better. Here is the deal folks, Peterbilt has been building aluminum trucks for years. The trailers they are using to haul freight are made of Aluminum. I have heard from several people that GM ran out of money developing these new trucks and just went with what they had. Not hard to believe considering they have such a half baked appearance to most people. Not even three minutes in the guy is claiming this can be done because it is made out of a certain material. GM the propaganda is getting old so please get a new act and some original ideas.
zimks first off I never they did. I said that I have heard people say this and judging by the complaints of the new truck having a half baked appearance there might be some truth to that. Second I agree with you, why would GM not budget a project for their cash cow correctly. Next you really should go check out what Mary Bara the leader of GM has been preaching. She has an agenda to spend less and ask more for GM products. We can see this with the current Camaro it is the most expensive and lowest selling of the big three muscle cars. Last do you really know how net worth works? Let's say I own a company with two warehouses and a fleet of trucks. They may say my net worth is 2 million when you add it all together. But we know that vehicles depreciate and property value can drop. So me and my assets may only be worth about half a million if I had to sell it off. So those numbers could be very deceiving considering it was not that long ago that GM filed for bankruptcy.
redd7188 I want to know the high up GM official “people” that have been saying those things, I’m sure those “people” really knows what they’re talking about LOL just because ford slaps a shitty 4 banger in there mustangs and sells them to 40 year old house wives who think they’re getting a fast car doesn’t mean they’re the a better vehicle, a ZL1 will walk a Mustang and a Hellcat and that’s Facts. Doesn’t every business owner want to cut overhead and make money off the product they are selling???
It'll probably grow on us over time... but whereas I feel like GM took a conservative approach with most of aspects of the "all-new truck", they didn't on aesthetics -- against their own popular horizontal bars grille and headlights. A design that works for a car doesn't mean it works for a truck -- take note GM.
Last time I was so into the design of the Silverado was back in 2006 for the 2007 design, omg Chevrolet did it again. That design is so beautiful. The trail Boss, the LTZ si luxurious and beautiful this truck is a dream for me.
I guess to each his own. I just dont see this as a Chevy truck. I am a Ford guy but I liked the last couple of silvs especially the 08?-12?. After that they were nice too. This one ( to me) looke like a. godawful Tundra , especially the sides. What a shame actually.
Donald Hungate The Ram resembles to the Tundra actually and I saw a new Ram the other day and I thought it was ugly af, no joke, it was all bubbly and weird looking with Tundra headlights. You gotta see vehicles in person to really know what you think of it. You may like it or you may not.
Im so glad this new model arrive that help me pick up my 2018 chevy silverado lt 5.3 v8 allstar edition worth 42+ for 26579 that is less than a Colorado .
From what I've seen so far: Capability (towing, power, offroading etc.): 1. Ford 2. Chevy 3. Ram (though it has better towing and off-road capability than the Chevy, they need better engine options) Looks: 1a. Ford (not including the Raptor) 1b. Ram 3. Chevy (front end and taillight design is just weird) Interior: 1. Ram (not including the 12 inch Uconnect) 2. Ford 3. Chevy (even in High Country trim, it looks like Rubbermaid designed the interior) Infotainment and Features: 1. Ram (Uconnect is by far the easiest and most intuitive to use and I'm not including the 12 inch screen) 2. Ford (Sync 3 kinda copied Uconnect, which is a good thing) 3. Chevy (from my experience in a 2016 Yukon, the Navigation sucks and response time was slower compared to others)
Beautiful looking truck! Love the lines, so much sharper than the previous model. But.......so much fuss over the tailgate??? Looking forward to a test drive. Nice job Chevy
I've had three Rams for the last 10 years. I really think Ram mailed it in on the new truck so I've been looking at what to replace my 16 Ram with. This new Chevy is going to be my next truck, I'm impressed by the engineering, powertrain choices, usability, and also love the aggressive styling. Good job GM!
It’s also awesome that Chevy makes u buy a dedicated package for a 2 speed hi and lo transfer case because giving it standard like every 4x4 truck has done forever was just too easy.
I don't get it. I really want to like it but it just seems like they phoned this one in. They couldn't give it 5 more hp? A real suspension upgrade for the "off road" version? So many missed opportunities.
Tactickle Shtooper I disagree. Chevy has made this truck more capable. For both towing, off roading and daily convince. The truck is more fuel efficient and has more frame strength.
Great Job on the video and nice work Tommy! Love the lead video image with the R44 on the pad! It's still mind blowing that this truck loaded still comes with a gear selector on the steering column, no panoramic roof, no messaging seats, considering chevy says "their luxury"? Crazy to think it might take 5 years later than the first manufacture, to introduce some of these options to their lineup. You also gotta love that there mixing steel and aluminum, nothing better than some oxidization. I would love to see down the road how those paints are going to match when reapiring these trucks since aluminum and steel can take paint differently. I have a feeling paint matching might be a nightmare.
Power tailgate. What a joke! GM say they talk to customers they didn't talk with me if I would want such a thing. Hope in the lower trim it's still the traditional tailgate.
Line up 20 people; yourself included. And they all ask you about the tailgate. 4 hate it, 12 love it and the rest don't care. What do you think they'll do?
ForzaClutch For better or worse, it looks sportier. Looks really cool on the red truck with the black grill. I'm not sure if it looks too great on the more expensive ones. I think it's ok though. The square ones do limit your tire size a LOT more. The Colorado he's a rounded square shape. They're pretty cool. I think they probably should've just copy and pasted that design.
When I first saw the reveal for this truck, my first impression was, Chevy has finally entered the the current era of trucks. After seeing this video, I think my statement holds true for 2018 but as a 2019 product this truck doesn’t hold a candle to the ram and still feels short of the 2018 f150. What is Chevy to do when Ford shows off there new truck in the near future? They will be a generation behind just like they were when the 2014 Silverado debuted. Chevy still has a lot catching up to do.
What's popular with off-roading is two-speed transfer cases, not gimmicky try-hard tech. Admittedly, a lot of 4x4 owners only see some "light off-road" use, like gravel, occasional light mud, and dirt roads. Nevertheless, oil pan skid plates should come standard with 4x4 and not require the Z71 upgrade, IMO.
My big question is, why tf is the mirror mounted to the door but theres still a window cap where it should be? It should just be a full window if they did that... This isnt a corvette chevy
Update--Just a word of caution - the new 2019 Silverado-Sierra twins can’t be ordered or does NOT come with the “power brake and foot pedal” adjuster. This is normally a pretty standard option for most trucks (GM, Ram, Ford)...I own a 2017 Silverado, but some “bean counter” within GM axed this very useful feature......why?
Bit skeptical of the lack of low range. I have no experience off roading automatics though, what do you guys that do think of that? Is faking it enough?
cjeam anyone who is really going to off road the truck will spec on with the 2 speed. The single speed is fine for someone who only really uses 4x4 in inclement weather.
cjeam Having low range isn't necessary but is it it is extremely nice. I mean I'm putting a low range transfer case in my 2 Wheel ranger just to have that torque if I need it.
I love chevy I own 3 myself . But 1 thing I HATE about these new trucks are the gay electric tailgate. They focus too much on the guy who uses a truck for play on the weekends than a person who uses them for work daily. At a worksite trucks dies I cant open a simple tailgate. What if it breaks over time I can't open it Manually ?
Finally a positive reply. So many haters. Don’t like it then don’t buy the damn thing. People bitch and whine about plastic shit and then whine about the price being too high. Maybe they should go buy a Tata. Thanks for your service shipmate.
People just come up with stuff to complain about. I still think they have the best engines on the market even though the first thing I would do would be by a tuner and disable the cylinder deactivation. All three brands of American trucks kind a look like spaceships from the future. I don’t see how you can justify which ones ugly which ones good looking. I think the interior looks great in it. I don’t have any grout with my 2013 it gets better fuel mileage that about anybody I know that has a full-size truck it’s comfortable so far and 75,000 miles it’s been reliable. There’s some kind of GM hating trend going on right now. If you look at all the problems forwards had with their line of Triton V8’s and all the diesels wiring fires all the way back into the 90s. Then you take dodgers problems with their 4.7 V8 and 3.7 V6 and they’ve had a few problems with some of the Hemi engines And Lord knows their transmissions and dashes crumbling. You could put 200,000 miles on some of those trucks and sweep up the entire dash in a dustpan. They’ve honestly had way more serious problems than GM has. But good Lord they took a bell out which is just a loan in my book and they paid it back. Nobody ever says a word about dodge. It’s all just drama And keyboard warriors.
Love this new truck. I love the tailgate assist - if my battery is dead I'm not worried about getting into the bed, I'm worried about getting my truck started again. It seems new truck designs always get a little flack, but this design is really nice. Hopefully others will warm up to it.
Chevy cracks me up. Here is are new system that's is supposed to mimic 4 lo, if you get the z71 package you get 4 lo so just put it in all of your trucks. Check out these rear air vents (why does a 50k truck not have them in the first place). What's really cool is this sticker that's in the door that's matched to your vehicle (hell my 99 ranger had that, I thought all vehicles did). We saved weight by using aluminium that we made fun of ford for. We moved the trailer wiring up (Ford did that a couple years ago). You can't open your tailgate if your battery dies. I feel like the storage compartment in the rear seat are also gonna make that seat super uncomfortable.
1. That’s only on certain models that don’t have z71 system which is basic lt models or less 2. They have had the trailer wiring there for over 10 years (something that took ford a couple years ago to move) 3. I keep my jumpers underneath my seat in my truck, Why would you need to go in there if your truck is dead? Tell me how many scenarios does the average truck user would have there truck die and HAVE to go back there, I live in the freezing cold Minnesota and cant possibly think of a scenario where I would need to go in there 4. I bet you won’t be able to even tell it’s there
I'm Your Huckleberry yeah have fun with your many recalls on this feminine piece of shit. The inside is plastic, the suspension is garbage. Literally all the comments saying they hat Ford and Ram but think they are way better
Great video. As someone who is new to trucks, I really like the gm sticker with all of the info printed in the door. As trucks age, it's really complicated to find out what they tow safely without looking up complex ppo codes from manufacture because the used salesmen will not know what the truck can do. As a suggestion, I would love a buying a used truck video segment TFL! Maybe a how to figure out axle ratios and different truck specs. Also, I know you guys have the gold hitch award but you guys don't really seem to do anything with the trucks once they have been documented the first time. For example, how is the 14 Silverado doing as it has aged and have your impressions changed over time. Overall, I have really enjoyed being a subscriber and love the work you guys put into these videos. Thank you
Why change it? Because the dash not only looks cheap, it's simply a dull, boring design, as well.. The solution is simple. Grab some of the people working on your Cadillac vehicles, and have them go through the interiors of these trucks, GM..
It doesn't even need to be Cadillac. Get the Buick guys on it; in many ways, I find the modern Buick interiors to be even better. GM just needs to learn that good interior design, good feature content, and good interior materials ultimately helps the company even if it means a bit less profit per vehicle.
OSTKCabal It's like the GMC Acadia. Climb in one, and you'll wonder if it's even made by the same company! The difference between it and their trucks (even their Colorado twins) is night & day in terms of fit, finish, and overall attention to detail.. 🤣
I remember in the video that TFL did at the auto show when they revealed the new Ram and the new Silverado and when talking about the interiors ram was showing their real wood and real metal finishes and the gm people were bragging up the colour they chose for their fake plastic wood trims and lack of panaramic sunroof, talk about being behind the times and cheaping out, they make so much money off a new pick up that there in no excuse to cheap out
Jeremy Ellison Dodge/RAM went through their 'Made in the Tupperware Factory' interior/design phase. They had to learn the hard way that you don't want to let the bean-counters control how your interiors end up looking.. 🤣 Hopefully the folks working on GM's truck get the same message..
you're right, the mid 2000's was for sure a rough time for chrysler cars after daimler was done with their rape and pillage of the company but ford and gm were no exception in those years, the "big 3" all seemed to have bean counters running the show then, anybody remember the decision by gm to save .75 on ingnition cylinders causing the biggest recall in automotive history
As a die-hard GM fan, you finally match wheel opening shape to the tire that fills them, but I was wondering why the front fender/bumper joints were left uncompleted? Did the release date approach too quickly and you said..what the hell...we'll just leave it? Note to engineering....start working on finishing that "defect" to ward off the upcoming sales slump! Its like a super model with bad mascara!
The hood is shorter... Great, now you'll need to remove the cab to work on the engine in your Chevy too. If I want a truck that looks like a Ford and that is engineered like a Ford. I 'd probably buy a Ford.
A 2019 Silverado was taken to a hockey game. During a break they drove the Silverado onto the ice but it stalled out! LOL It took them a while to get it off the ice! LOL
Chris John Michael I own a f150 and I like the new Silverado. Finally rear vents, hopefully they kept the HID headlamps on the lower trims. Trail Boss LT looks sick.
only a fool buys a first year model. i have a 2017 jeep wrangler and there are so many improvements over my gfs 2013. all this means is the last gen is cheaper right now and at the end of it's production life with minimal bugs! cars are so complex nowadays they are like endless beta testing phases, buy late!
People on here talking about how much they hate the looks and how they like the 2018 model year better. You know what? They will still sell a ton of these trucks if you like it or not lol
People righ now buy Jean's with lots of holes and 20 years ago you ask for a discount when you buy a new Jean's with little hole....people buy anything righ now
The men in my family have only driven chevy trucks because they have many years working for them... But chevy has been losing my interest and excitment fir years now. This truck does not impress me
Anthony Musso >>> same here. I come from a family that was essentially die-hard Chevy. Ever since I've been paying attention to Ford we've changed our stance. Chevy is behind, way behind and it still demands full price. At the very least they should (have the decency to) significantly discount their backward products that don't stand up to (any of) the competition ... I'd almost rather have an Indian-made "TATA" truck, LOL ;-)
I have to agree. I'm a diehard Chevy guy since a kid and after this latest release of truck i'll have to say i was disappointed and felt they missed the mark. The Fords are looking better and better. Chevy needs to step it up before they really start losing their loyal following. How could you not put a decent suspension on the Trail Boss at the very least?? Not even giving it the 6.2 option lol The interior looks cheap and to be honest i like my 18 Silverado interior better for the most part.
Yeah I come from a diehard GM family. GM trucks always lasted long and were easier to work on...but these new trucks are different. GM is so far behind I cannot justify buying a new one...I'd rather go Ram
I have a 2013 crew. I prefer the look of mine to this newer smoother one. Like a previos engineer said the older ones look like a "fist in the wind" or something like that.
Kudos to Chevy for all the useful updates, great and functional technology etc. I would again consider when shopping for new truck which I do every 15-24 months. Straight six diesel...what??? Toyota Tundra where are you...
