The 2019 8-core i9 15" MacBook Pro has blown us away in its ability to outperform the previous model while running at cooler temps AND lower fan speeds.
This is attributed to a couple of different changes on the inside of this machine, which we're extremely happy Apple took the time to make.
We take a look at performance benchmarks, video editing and photo editing to see how big of a difference there is in performance this year.
We also discuss Apple's butterfly keyboard and the changes they've made to it in this update, and we hope that we never see these keyboard issues again!

Please, make your graphs on the right scale, or specify at which number the scale starts. At 3:16, there are only 2.5 degrees difference, and it seems to be a lot more! Numbers do matter but numbers' represebtation matters even more! Despite that, it is a good review

I have an i9 2019 2.3ghz and it is the best machine I have ever used. I generally use it with the turbo off as it doesn't change anything on a daily basis, in some situations I turn on the turbo. Normally it is at 38 to 45 degrees at idle, and when used it does not exceed 50 degrees. At full then it stabilizes at around 85. If you deactivate the turbo, at full it stays around 70 to 80 degrees.

@@realjawbone The battery lasts around 5h to 10h. Varies depending on brightness and use. If I limit CPU usage it helps more. trying to do the bootcamp here but I'm getting an error. I may have to format the machine from scratch with macOS. I'm using unparalleled Windows.

@@realjawbone Hello friend, I have a question. Mine SOMETIMES when it is OFF but plugged in, it GETS HOT. That's right, off! Does this happen to you too? I tried resetting the SMC but I don't know if it worked. I saw on the internet that it was possible to solve it. There is no error in the apple check system.

@@realjawbone No, mine too. I find it very cold in use! Now if I leave it plugged in and unplugged, when I go to pick it up it's on fire! I think I need to reset the SMC. I do not know how to do it. I tried some tutorials here but I don't know if it worked.

Literally just picked up a 15" 2019 MBP 8-core i9, 32gigs ram and a 2TB SSD for £2300.. best of all it has 2 years Apple Care left and only a battery cycle count of 4, everything was still wrapped up brand new.

What people are forgetting is the "PRO" monicker. Alluding to the fact that these machines are for professionals who need power. If you want to play videogames, get an ASUS ROG. Of you want a reliable machine to watch porn on, get a Chromebook. If you need an all-around laptop which will do all of your basic tasks and have good battery life, Macbook air will satisfy your needs.

it's OK there is still a lot of throttling and even at that time he should have said wait and see if the keyboard reliability matters but I guess if a person is specifically looking for macs then it is a good enough guide. I think apple silicon macs should be a good thing to look out for, especially for midrange or casual users. if they bring out a laptop like 329$ ipad made specifically with students in mind then it would really bring macs out into major competition with midrange or low range windows laptops because they would be more speed reliable without much tinkering for an end user.

Apple has tweaked the throttling with a software patch, and you can see the result when Linus installed windows on the same device that doesn’t have the tweak. That’s just deceptive of Apple correcting hardware with software.

Deceptive? Users previously found that you get better performance by undervolting, so we should be very thankful that Apple applied their own tweaks to undervolt and in turn get better performance. I'd much rather have it this way than allow it to run at the higher voltage and thermal throttle more like it does on Windows. -Vadim

@@MaxTechOfficial I'd rather they provided a better performance hardware than try to mask the performance of the one they have provided with software tweaks. That's what I am implying. They did the same with the iPhone. Rather than provide better batteries they tweaked their software to slow down user's phones to make it seem the batteries performed better.

Another video says it's just Apple constraining the wattage for the CPU. Technically, there's no throttling but thermally constrained coz it never drops lower than the base clock speed but never goes beyond that either.

SilverBoys Production Idk. People are ok buying overpriced goods. Microsoft creates good laptops. BUT not everything with Microsoft is a good laptop. The surface is amazing. But other brands like Lenovo,dell,hp, aces have varying different laptops. From Shitty cheap ones to $3,000+ laptops. You get what you pay for. My Mac book pro 2011 is still going strong. Where as 2 of my friends with $500 under computers are slow and way outdated within 3-4 years. I have the new base 2019 Mac and it’s worth the price.

I’ve been using a late 2011 MBP and am in desperate need of a new MBP. Just hate hate hate that Apple didn’t update the hardware this year. i9, 32RAM, Vega 20 and 1T at $4500 for us students 🤔😢😅ugh. That’s what happens when you’re in love with the damn iOS echosystem. I cannot go back to PC.

Who knows how long it could take for those, most likely they'll include a refresh 12" macbook (Maybe full redesign) Possibly a macbook air refresh And the chance for the rumored 16" macbook pro which will probably include a full brand new redesign. I would probably wait until Fall to see if that comes out if you don't need a MacBook Pro now. -Vadim

Hey Max, I'm in need of a computer for music production, software development and webdesign before college starts in 2 months. Would the base model 15" with the i9 , 512gb ssd and 16gb ram work well? I do want to wait for the new redesign but I can't since I need to buy one on monday. I feel like I might regret it if the new model comes this year, but I can't afford to wait any longer. What do you think?

I'm pretty sure even the 6-core MacBook Pros will be fine for you. Many people used the 6-cores from 2018 and were happy with them. The 8-core will make stuff run faster for sure but the 6-core can really handle a lot. There's a chance we'll see a new 16" MBP this year but if you can't wait then you can't wait. -Vadim

@@MaxTechOfficial I can only get a base model since the closest apple store is about 800 miles away from me, and I cant order online. So there is a 2018 one but not with the i9 hexa core, but i7 hexa core and it's not that much cheaper (abour $300). I just don't see why Apple would release a spec bump and a new model the same year :/. Thank you though! I will probably go with the 2019 one.

I see turbo boosts up to around 4.2/4.6.. Never recorded/seen the stated 4.9. However I do get sustained 3.2/3.9 during my compiler work loads. Compared to my 5930k (linux) compiling the same project the x99 system (at stock) still wins but not by much. All in all i'm pleased with the performance (apple delivered). A laptop keeping up with x99 (still a beastly platform) says a lot. YYMV as my use-case is in software-dev and video/graphics workloads are a lot more volatile in regards to performance and sustained load. Keyboard is still awful... I would compare the experience to "tapping a touch screen" vs calling it "typing". You can def feel the new membrane and surprising as it may sound, you lose any tactile feedback the first iteration of this awful typing platform provided.

I bought the 2019 i9 base model when my early 2015 died. I noticed that Skype calls and photo editing cranks the temperature up to 80C and sustains it in the 75-65C range. This makes the laptop quite warm and uncomfortable to work on, not to mention it drains the battery. Is this normal?

But with memory , 128 GB went back to 2000 . While Samsung smartphone comes with 1TB. Apple stated APPLE TV . They want to sell films. Ok , but where to store, what if I travel on trane, plane, ship? Is this a review unit Apple gave you guys or is this a regular retail model? I'm asking this because it would take a ton of time and testing to under volt each retail unit as every CPU behaves differently when under volted. Some CPU's will only remain stable under a lower under-volt others can take a much higher one to remain stable. If this is indeed a review unit I'm wondering if Apple is only giving the review units the under volt treatment to look better to high profile reviewers such as yourselves. However if this is a retail model anyone can buy in a store hats off to Apple they really are putting in some serous time and effort to successfully under-volt every 8 core unit that comes out of the factory. Also Notebookcheck.com recently reviewed the 2019 entry level i7 model and surprisingly it performs a bit worse then last years 2.6 Ghz i7 model. It also runs at the same temperatures under load as the 2018 models suggesting Apple has only applied the under volt to the 8 core SKU's.

@@jonathanpeter1385 Why would you be pretty sure that a company worth $900 billion doesn't give several laptops to the most popular review websites? Logic indicates that they would. Also, even if they don't give the units for free, there is plenty reason and incentive for Apple to sell units to review sites under an arrangement whereby the reviewers are sure to get the exact model/specs they want within the first few days of release ... so that they can review it. If yes, Apple may have undervolted only those units in order to get good reviews. If so, we're getting duped and will end up with weak units.

It's odd Max Tech has replied to many other comments since Zep asked this, but hasn't answered this easy question. Apple is likely not manually fixing every unit to get it to work fine with undervolting. The NotebookCheck.com discovery the 6 core isn't undervolted adds to this. So til Max Tech replies, we must assume Apple is duping Max Tech to get good reviews. Max Tech has incentive to ignore this as they don't want to re-do the review. But the longer they wait to address it, the worse they will look if the truth comes out.

This laptop testing website bought the new 6-core to test it, and they said it doesnt't have the improvements that the 8-core has, and that the 6-core has significant problems. The $3,500 8 core model is out of my price range, and the 6-core is in my range, but seems flawed. What do you think? This isn't the only reviewer to actually say this. They all said the same for the trackpad. From my experience compared to windows laptop I found the MB trackpad to be the most satisfying trackpad I've ever used on a Laptop.

If the keyboard is now fixed with the new materials, I'd call that a pretty awesome upgrade this year for reliability. Thermals are down, so that should help longevity as well. -Vadim

The 6 core version sucks. It still has the 560 gpu as the max graphics. If they offered the Vega 20 with the 6 core mbp, I doubt many people would buy the i9 model.

This guy is dumb Intel designed the chip better to handle thermals it's the same fucking chip from 8th gen lolol. And it's not undervolting. Working from apple and quiting, it's due to Apple OSX and how it manages the software for each application, especially at 2300rpm!!! It's physically impossible to cool that cpu properly with what they put in there and even .175-.200 of undervolt wouldn't change it that much. If that chip can even handle that big of an undervolt.

WizZy's Channel aside from basic browsing, office productivity and likes, I use it for light gaming and pic editing. But I got mine replaced yesterday after it froze up two times. Luckily, mine’s still under 14-day return period. I noticed it froze and restarted (bridge OS kernel panic) when I’m using facetime and viber coz I use my laptop sometimes for those calls. Havn’t had any issue since yeaterday but it might be too early to say (crossing fingers)..

In 2019, macs are actually worth what they ask for, at least compared to Windows machines. Yes, you can get a monster of a gaming laptop for $1100. But it will weight a ton and have no battery life (like the one I have). But when you go and look at windows laptops which are light, fast, and have good battery life, they are pretty much the same price as their mac counterparts.

This site tested the new 6-core and it doesn't have the performance changes the 8-core has, and has serious problems. I just can only keep looking at the one I added to the “bag” on the Apple education site and can’t process the Checkout because I don’t have the money yet, currently still using my MacBook Pro 2012 to work on my first book, it work fine just it started to show its old age plus the Bluetooth most of the time not working anymore, hope to publish my book soon, it’s my one of my childhood dream, it’s amazing that you can use what you love to do what you love too, just after I completed the book most likely I graduated and I can’t get the education price anymore even I have the money

Hi, I’d like to buy a 15’' 2019 MacBook Pro (the 2300$ one). But should I upgrade the SSD (256 to 512) or the RAM (16 to 32), for more speed before I buy it ? I’ll just use my Mac for studies and programming. I’m also kind of opening multiple tabs at the same time while searching and studying. so I don’t want to get any trouble with low capacities etc. But maybe I don’t need to upgrade anything because it’s already enough, do I ? Need advice...

For your needs, I would upgrade to 512GB SSD first. I think 16GB should be fine for you. Just make sure to close down some tabs every once in a while :) -Vadim
