The first all-electric offering from across the pond's Jaguar is the 2019 I-Pace. Nope, not the E-Pace, that's different. This one is an SUV-ish five-passenger crossover that is full of British luxury bits. Kelley Blue Book's Micah Muzio explains all of them, and why you wouldn't want to charge this from a regular home charger now!

It makes sense to have the volume control knob on that side, as the driver usually controls it from the steering wheel.

TrueDesireHD Jaguar, especially in the US offers a lot of base options already. Volume controls on the steering wheel is standard.

Just took delivery of the I-Pace last week. It's an amazing vehicle. I don't think the panoramic glass roof would be a problem here in SoCal since it filters out UV and IR rays. It lets light in but not the heat. The standard seats come in vegan leather just like the Teslas. Leather is an option as is cloth fabric. LED headlights and taillights are standard. Could never get over instant torque when accelerating. It handled the heavy rain and the street flooding with aplomb. Time will tell it's reliabiity.

As for the volume control... I'm thinking Jag put it so far away so that the passenger can operate it, and the drive 99% of the time would use the volume on the steering wheel.

I just test drove one today--my first electric.The AWD and acceleration were stellar.This thing would beat most gas cars under 100k and the power is instant and --perfect.It-- is easily as fast as the other fastes car I ever drove and that was a 2014 cadilliac CTS-V--that is the level of acceleration--all the time--reliably--no noise--just power.And like he said--you can hit 60 in 4 seconds let off the gas pedal and it just slows down.This is the next step in cars.I am sold--but I am not sold at 100k.If I won the lottery I would get this as a local car because of the range.I also had it in bad weather and it easily did a mid 5-- 60 in rain.I mean it would be worth owning in the shock values of easily beating most other cars.It is so fast that you can barely stay on the pedal unless you are on a straightway with a long view--and the weird thing is there is no resistance at all--speed hardly matter--it has linear acceleration with speed meaning little.You could probably be going 100 mph and hit the pedal and it could probably hit its 124 top speed within a few seconds--there is no lag on torque--and it is silent.

Using Jaguar brand for 18+ years and this is my horrible review with the I-PACE. I've had a horrible experience with Jaguar's I-Pace. I had the vehicle for a year, and have only been able to drive it for approximately 2k miles. It has had issues with battery, software malfunction, charging system, and even when you would try to start the car it would make noises. Its a shame that Jaguar has tainted its brand with such a problematic car. If you want to be walking to places instead of driving, BUY a Jaguar I-PACE.

@@bruintoo it's the drag on this vehicle. Exterior dimensions are almost the exact same as the tesla m3 minus the height yet that vehicle car do 300 miles off 75kWh.

@goodfella21f The battery is like the tank; it has only a microscopic effect on efficiency. The engine, the converters, the gears and the aerodynamics are what define (for 99%) the distance per kWh.

Curry God they do not have issues since 2013- forward...I own a 2017 F-Pace S and have had no problems. I also own a 2007 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 and haven’t had any major problems since 2011. I think the reliability is blown out of proportion. Keep I mind 2016-foward jags have 5 year 60k mile free warranty.

Stephen Isaac, thanks for informing me. I have never owned a Jaguar/Land rover product because I was told they aren’t reliable but I guess actual owners advice is better. 👍

I’m guessing most people will lease this. But even if they don’t, Jag’s EliteCare coverage of 5 years/60K miles for the car and 8 years/100K miles for the battery should suffice. Even if there is an issue, at least it’ll be covered for a fix. Now buying this second hand...oooof, I’d run far away.

90 minutes for charging to 80% on DC "Fast" Chargers? That's awful. Tesla Model X does that in only 30 mins.

Depends on how fast the charger is. Depending on which OTA you are on, it will charge at 100kW or 83kW. 0%-80% can be done in 40 minutes.

Entertainment Mike Strikes Again.... He gripes about a volume control being too far to reach when the (his) control is directly on the steering wheel. The dash volume control is for the passenger to use (makes more sense).

I wouldn't own a Tesla if you paid me to. And I made a lot of money investing in Tesla from 2013-2017. Their quality control is the worst with reliability to match.

Tesla has become a major shit show. You'd be crazy to spend that kind of money on a company that's in a complete spiral. They've done a great job damaging their brand - even the millennials aren't enthused about the car anymore since the market has become saturated. Anyways that iPace is beautiful will be curious to see how it does.

@@seanz6586 Why? This is car is much better build, its actually premium, because only thing premium on Tesla is its price. I actually like to drive my car, so I'm not interest at all in full self driving. Also in US its not as good, but in Europe we have Ionity chargers, currently around 130 station and by end of next year there will be 400 (its owns by BMW, Mercedes, VW ....) so they are hitting targets unlike Tesla and its 4 - 8 stall each 350 kw not sharred power. So in Euope this car works for anybody and Jag will increase range and charging speed now so there is not a big difference to Model X except autopilot, but you will sit in crappy interior with terrible build quality.

Electric car reviews are normally the same drab and boring "range" and "instant torque" monotones. But I have to admit, I actually enjoyed watching this one. It was different and interesting. Especially when sprinkled with touches of humour throughout. Well done Micah.

Depends how reliable it will be. Electric cars are far easier to make reliable. This is made in Austria close to Germany, not the UK. Jag has used reliable trusted brands to make to battery and motors. Tesla has a terrible record for putting cars together being a new company. Panel gaps, doors not working etc. They came last in which reliability report survey in the uk. Last of all makes. AND they are making an electric car - which SHOULD be a lot more reliable.

I just pulled the trigger on an I-pace, after much deliberation. I checked-out the Tesla and Hyundai Kona EV as well. I went with the Jag because it drove the nicest and had the look, feel and everything I was looking for. I honestly wish it was more of a 2-door sport and a bit shorter but we can only buy what's on the market and this seemed like the best choice. Oddly, I own a Ferrari 360 spyder, Hummer H2 and Honda HRV.....this I-pace seems to combine elements of all 3 cars: efficiency, power/speed, handling, ability to go a bit offroad, capacity to carry passengers and of course environmental. After 7 years of driving the Hummer I'm going to need 10 years of EV to balance-out my environmental footprint, LOL...but yeah, VERY happy with this vehicle!!!!!

Tesla owner here, this jag is beautiful. I don’t like all the knobs on the inside but I really like the vehicle. Charging infrastructure for road trips are the big problem (at least in the us) but this is a fantastic looking, in town car.

You are obviously not representative of most experienced EV drivers who, nearly all of them, prefer as much regenerative braking as possible. I don’t know why they would have an inexperienced EV driver evaluating an EV. Entertaining presentation none the less :-)

The placement of the volume knob and start/stop button make perfect sense to me. The driver needs access to the start/stop button, not the passenger. The driver can control volume from the steering wheel and hence does not have to reach for the volume knob. That's for the passenger.

Tesla Model Y is at least 25K cheaper, is faster, has more luggage space, much faster to charge, Tesla charger network is second to none, and so on. How is Jaguar planning to sell this car????

Jaguar I-Pace EV400, Audi e-tron & Mercedes EQC 400. Lots of choices for luxury EV SUV this coming year. The Jag looks the classiest, but I think the MB looks better in and out. Still you almost can't go wrong with any of them really.

Why does jaguar report car range of 292 miles on their eu site and then “up to” 234 miles on their US site? Also charging is an issue that they seriously need to address, like where are all the fast chargers they can use.

The 120v charger is fine for some driving styles. The vast majority of people are not recharging from 0%. Which is what a lot of car reviewers portray. Most people are only replacing the 30-40 miles they used in a day which you can easily get back overnight from 120v charger. Depending on how much you drive determines how big your charger should be. But there is security in a faster charger.

It's great that someone is making an ok EV, but i-Pace is higher priced, slower, shorter range, much less efficient, and has a terrible user interface compared to Tesla Model 3.

$70000 for 250 miles only, not a good deal at all. The Tesla Y is much cheaper and has 216 Miiles! The control buttons and screens indeed are too complex, esp trying to adjust while driving. The best thing is it looks really great!

I'd be very shocked if Jag didn't include a hill hold feature like Tesla does for when you aren't using creep mode. When coming to a stop, push the brake pedal a little more.

Look, this is a v1 product. For that it seems really mature. I have a model three and wish it had hud, 360 view and power hatch. Of course the 3 has all the tesla stuff which is great. I like that there are no tesla dealers. If you like going to dealerships this is a advantage to jag. I bought my car on line and it was painless. Also jag service centers are really nice. Excellent review.

Eventhough I am a fan of tesla I hope all electric cars will prosper against ICE cars, that's why don't agree with the critique about the glass roof. Tesla has it and you didn't complain as a greenhouse effect. ipace is a great carm

Like problem with getting Model X is that it doesn't feel luxury or premium at all, this spartan cheap looking interior is ok for Model 3 and Y, but X and S should be more special and also offer real leather. Also thanks to Tesla that is that slow for opening ordering in my country, I'm getting I-Pace instead of Model 3 LR.

Jaguar only sold about 18,000 iPace in 2019 and are now giving them away for $20k off. If you thought they were good last year you can get one today! Cheap! lmao If you bought one in 2019 for full price, you should contact Jaguar and get the $20k they owe you.

That rotary dial with multiple functions is worse than the touchscreens people like to complain about. Requires more than a glance to operate.

i have the hse pkg ...i love it nest EV ever owned so far ...i live in dallas texas ... if anyone in my area is buying one of this ..go to ft worth autobahn jag dealer ...they have great deals on them ...i bought from them...cool ppl to deal with

WTF who has that type of time to wait 90 minutes at a charging station ( assuming they even exist in places outside of major cities)? Sounds like it takes a week to charge from home. I guess if you are worth millions you can have 1 put in your home.... Or if you`re not, you can get a loan

An electric car that doesn’t look like shit is what stops a lot of people. Cheers to Jag plus the battery warranty and reputable service. You be lucky to get a Tesla if you buy one let alone service if it breaks. No thanks.
