An excellent presentation and I’m excited for Jaguar . Although I am a Tesla lover, I wish Jaguar every success, for many of their customers are traditionalists and the success of the iPace will aid in converting another section of the public over to EV's and sustainable transport.
All EVs are only for the top 1-5% richest people in the world. Even 30k nissan leaf. I live in a country with average income around 1200 EUR. That puts us ahead of 80% of world population.You need to double that income, before you can start thinking about buying 30k car. That's why I am very skeptical about EVs substituting all ICE before 2040 (which is often critiziced as "not soon enough") on this channel. You can NOT substitute all ICE, unless you have car with reasonable range (500km is ok) with price below 10k EUR. That is sci-fi today (however I hope it will become reality).
The question is how the infrastructure can be changed so that the range just needs to be 200 km, which would make it possible to make EVs cheap enough for most people. This could be done if highways and motorways had an EV lane, where EVs could drive on the power provided and perhaps even charge the batteries a little. There is still some debate on the way charging should work on these roads, some say conductive charging is the way to go and others believe induction is better, but I imagine that in ten years or so we will see a cheap way to make this happen.
In 10 years, perhaps, we will see a way how to make "EV lane" viable (not only technically, but financially). But implementing it means decades of work - rebuilding complete highway/motorway infrastructure is extremely long term task. Again - not a realistic 2040 goal. Let's be realistic - no government will spent huge amount of money on project, that is ultimately going to solve itself (using money from private sector). In this case better battery technology is going to make this way of powering EVs obsolete (though again it will most likely take several decades of slow evolution).

Why does every mention of an electric vehicle have to include a plug for some other car company? Maybe you should all be thanking the laptop and phone industies for developing the batteries without which nobody would be doing this stuff....and the computer companies for ... and Mark Shuttleworth, another South African, for providing the OS that some car companies systems run on and so on and on and on.
The silence in the interior is something I don't think I will ever stop loving about EV's. I saw my first model 3 yesterday and was glad I wasn't behind the wheel, it was stunning. Jaguar, welcome to the future. I hope you really mean to enter this space and move forward because the world isn't going backwards, it might be slow but EV's are the future.
I like racing exhaust notes from V8 engines as any petrol head... when I'm in racing mode, in a race track or race event or similar. But when I'm traveling hundreds or thousands of kilometers in a car, it's the silence, sound isolation and comfort that I admire the most.
Really amazing work here, loved the tech bit where they explained the cut away - bonded and riveted aluminium chassis and permanent magnet motors, Jaguar have done a really good job here of what will surely be an icon for their company in the coming years, thank you Fully Charged!
Yes it was nice. [UK here] But, tbf to the USA here, they even spell aluminium differently, as in aluminum,. Aluminum was the second recognised spelling of the alloy, which was then changed to aluminium, the third spelling. Originally, it was called alumium. The USA and Canada use the second spelling and pronunciation, and the rest of the English speaking world use the latest. Since all that spelling/pronunciation change took place 190 and 90 years ago, either side of the fence thinks the other is slightly odd. But maybe nobody is really right or wrong in this case. However, the 'official' spelling is aluminium, so maybe USA and Canada ought to fall into line. But whether it's alumium, aluminum or aluminium, I think we all know what we're talking about.
Rambler Andy it’s just that some people can’t spell, or mispronounce words, and consequently mis-spell them. E.g rebate joints became rabet joints in the US.
Love this. As someone who's been with Tesla for a long time, I definitely see the similarities in the build and drivetrain. The improvements definitely stick out. The heat pump/exchanger is a great idea and something I wished Tesla had for years (hell, the i3 has it!). This is where you notice that Tesla's target customer is from California, whereas Jaguar is Northern Europe. Should help a lot with efficiency and range anxiety in winter. The converter/charger is located under the rear seats on a Tesla, while Jaguar puts it up front. I would think this helps with rear seat comfort, something I know people have wished to see improved in Tesla models. And of course you can't help but notice the fit and finish like Johnny points out. This is where Tesla has a lot of work to do to catch up with the established manufacturers. Jaguar still has challenges like charging infrastructure, the shorter range and unknown service availability and reliability, as has been pointed out. The I-PACE seems like a great start though. Bravo!
byteyotta You're right. My Tesla looses at least 20% range in winter especially for short journeys . Use of heat pumps would really help in UK where its cold and/or raining for 7 months of the year and raining for the remaining 5. I just hope the main stream charging infrastructure catches up with Tesla superchargers really soon. Currently its a joke by comparison to Tesla superchargers and will hold market growth back.
I found it amusing that the Jag rep wanted to call it anything other than a heat pump, and his statement about the coefficient of performance was incorrect in terminology. BTW, the CoP won't be 2.5 like he said when it's really cold.
True, he did avoid using that exact word. But just the fact that they acknowledge that this is a concern and work towards a new solution shows that they care more about colder climates than Tesla. If anything, Tesla has been getting less friendly towards customers in cold climates, for example when they decided to bundle the $1000 winter package into a $5000 premium package. This leads to a lot of people buying a $100k car without something simple like a heated steering wheel. This is coming from a big Tesla fan, the competition is definitely welcome.
I like the riveted & bonded aluminium chassis... Makes a lot of sense. Welding aluminium is very energy intensive and time consuming. Nice to see traditional auto makers taking this more seriously finally, which was always Tesla's sub-primary goal.

Well, it is kinda literally an elephant. EVs and their charging stations are like elephants now. Until the time comes where they become gazelles, like a lot of EVs out there compared to the conventional automobiles, we cant expect a lot. And also the charging stations technology being proprietary, i assume, it cant be common i guess. But there are a few concerns if thats the case too. Anyways it will become a reality pretty soon, i hope.
It has a starting price of 80.000,-EURO in the Netherlands. Pretty expensive. However, it's hard to deny this is one of the most sexy, exiting and sophisticated EV's that I have seen so far.
Watched the vid (excellent as usual), didn't notice any Tesla "bashing", lots in the comments (Jag and Tesla) though. My 2 pennorth? Nice looking car, interior and exterior, but so are the Teslas. As for build quality who can say? From what I read from the comments there must be a helluva lot of folk in the 70 yr old to 80 yr old age group. ALL cars in the 70s and 80s were thrown together whether they were German, French, Czech, Japanese, US or Brit. VW Beetles rusted out for a past time, Datsuns (Nissan) and Renaults likewise and their high tech was anything but, Italians Ferrari, Fiat, Alfa Romeo (who can forget the nightmares that were the Alfasud and Alfetta), Lancia, US gas guzzlers + slush pumps for transmissions, brakes along the lines of sticking your foot out to stop the QE2 and handling most pram makers would have found abysmal, Brit Friday afternoon or Monday morning cars and on it goes. It was the era of "built in obsolescence" in car manufacturing world wide. I've been lucky, or unlucky, enough to have owned and driven several Jaguars. They were no better or no worse than the Bentley S2, Ford Fairlane 500GT, Alfetta or Dino amongst the more exotics I've owned as far as build is concerned. So.......why not stop the ruddy knocking before it's even on the road and let it get a few miles under it's tyres in private ownership. I look forward to the full road test fellers. :D
One of the great things about Fully Charged are the technology deep dives - taking to the time to talk to the engineers and going over all the little details. You just don't get this from other car shows who instead prefer to focus on drifting and big vroom noises. There is a time and a place for that of course but nobody comes away from it any further enlightened.
The thermal scavenging principal is phenomenal , finally we have reasons to be super energy conscious and positively paranoid lol ! Imagine if the car became the full power/heat unit for households. Great stuff!
A little Tesla bashing at the beginning. But, always recall, Elon Musk alone is responsible for changing the direction of the entire auto industry. The immense power and money reserves he went up against in not only how they power the car, but design, efficiency and an entire way of doing business. So, if a panel here or there are not perfectly aligned....I can live with that! But, it is good to see Jag is taking EV's seriously.
It's as Johny said. Tesla is the innovator, technological company. They are amazing simply for the fact they build the whole charger infrastructure. They are changing the world. Old manufacturers will slowly follow. I don't hear bashing. Situation really is a win win. Tesla is going to improve their manufacturing processes and still stay on the top simply due to their innovations.
I didn't see that as Tesla bashing. It's a fair criticism that even Tesla and its fans will acknowledge. As Jonny put it, "Tesla is quickly learning how to mass produce cars" and "[established manufacturers] are learning to build EV technology". It's a convergence from either side with the end result being more EVs for everyone - exactly what Tesla's original mission was.
its fair teslas cars are still generation 1 and they hardly have their manufacturing up and running. gen 2 should keep he value but add the quality. hopefully. i would still take a JAAAAAAGGGGG
Despite all the Tesla bashing everywhere (not just on this channel) they still make the only cars that you can drive across the US or Europe without incurring impossibly long charging stops. So please stop comparing with ICE cars and start comparing honestly across all aspects of the car, beyond "Jaguar makes nice cars". How fast does it charge, how far does it go, are we going to see another battery heating issue like with the Leaf because there's no liquid around the battery cells? Plenty of questions to ask right?
Johhny, your presentation of I-pace was spectacular, the Jaguar info was great, couldn't done it better than that. Great work I-Pace really could change things around in the luxury segment with that price point
Seems to be a real Tesla competitor finally. But there are still a few questions. The big one is the battery. For example what it's expected lifetime, and how much fast charging it tolerates? Tesla proved it's battery tech, but for example Nissan is still struggling. Since the battery is the most expensive part of the car, this is kinda important.
That is a good question, and unfortunately something that won't be answered until it has been in the field for a few years to see how it holds up in real life use.
A great review, if I had the choice between this and the Tesla X I would go for the Jaguar. Both are expensive cars, perhaps a side by side comparison would be good idea in the future. Having said that I am a tad basis as I have owned two XKR in the past...

This is one of the best episodes ever. I’ve got my favorite car pervert, Jonny Smith, with my favorite automotive designer, Ian Callum, reviewing my favorite new EV. I love the entire execution of this car and applaud Jaguar for being the first long-standing marque to market. I’ve been going on for years how the VW Group will be the company to make Tesla’s existence complete hell (not just production hell), but here comes Jaguar with a brilliant design. I love the haunches and everything else about this car. I can’t wait to experience one for myself. Thank you for the brilliant report, Jonny!
Not sure if you are claiming the Jaguar is now going to make any hell for Tesla, but in reality, the production capacity of the i-Pace at the Austrian Magna Steyr plant is 13.000 cars a year. That is about as many cars as Tesla makes in 2 weeks. So, somehow I suspect that Tesla isn't exactly worried.
Captain Crunch thank you for your feedback. I’m not suggesting the Jaguar’s car will put a big dent in Tesla’s business. That said, we are talking peanuts all around because the worldwide electric car market is hovering around 4% of the total retail car business. My point is that the VW Group will give Tesla the most hell and very soon. Tesla, like Jaguar, should remain as niche manufacturers in order to survive. Other carmakers make money, Tesla loses billions. How long will investors pump in more capital after Porsche comes out with an electric competitor to the Model S with a proper interior (build quality) and reliability? Follow that with Audi’s 300+ mile range SUV that will be introduced in 2019. Incidentally, that car has been on the show circuit for 3 years. These guys have been holding back waiting for the market to develop. Why would anyone by a Tesla, with its 1980s GM build quality, when you could have a proper Audi, Porsche, or Mercedes (in 2020)? I love how scrappy and innovative Tesla has been but their ability to truly compete has not been tested, and I believe their business model is flawed.
A fantastic product and a game changer in terms of a ‘QUALITY’ EV. Jaguar have really stepped up and they didn’t just smash the ball out of the park..............they TOTALLY crushed it ! I have been fortunate enough to drive two of these incredible bits of kit (First Edition & HSE) and it is an astonishingly great vehicle.
That was left out of the discussion on purpose. Magna Steyr in Austria is doing the build and it is their powertrain. The I-Pace's pouch cells will not be competitive with the Model X in terms energy density and battery management (Tesla has 10% battery degradation in 160,000 miles). I believe that the electric powertrains that Magna Steyr has developed for the I-Pace will be used in a variety of builds for OEM's. They are one of the largest parts suppliers to OEM's in the world.
Range: "The I-Pace’s 90kWh lithium ion battery delivers a range of up to 298 miles, according to the new WLTP cycle. That equates to 336 miles on the old NEDC test and 240 miles on the American EPA cycle." (Autocar) Charging time: 40mins to 80, when using 100kW CCS Battery life: the temperature is actively managed, and the cells are from LG Chem, so I'd say that they'll be up there with the other actively-managed battery packs. ETA: 2nd half of 2018 for mass cusstomer deliveries, with hundreds having been on the road for the past 9 months+
@ssmog ssmog It offers 0%-80% charge in 40 mins atm. It can use 100kW rapid charging, from CCS rapidchargers, which are currently on roll-out. There are 950 public 50kW CCS chargers installed in the UK. (For comparison, the UK's 298 Tesla Superchargers are up to 120kW).

Not really true, the Nissan LEAF was planned long before Elon Musk entered the EV world. Where we can thank Elon Musk is when it comes to the prices on batteries for EVs, which he has helped reduce, and for the push towards autonomous cars with Teslas driver assist systems.
So I went to Cheltenham Jaguar today to see one (it was only there for the day), it might even be the one in the video as it was the same color and trim (the one on the turn table in grey). The car looks better than on video, even Jaguars. It's bigger (long and wide) than I anticipated. I am nearly 6ft 5in and I could just sit straight in it with my longer than avg. legs (I don't fit in any other Jaguar I ever tried). Would have liked an extra inch, but that would be a custom job to move the rails back. I spoke to one person who had pre-ordered one back in Feb. His estimated delivery date is Feb 2019!! Wonderful car to look at inside and out, well done indeed for Jaguar to produce such a nice looking car. In pure build quality Tesla just got owned. Not saying a Tesla is no good far from it, but this is just that little bit better overall, especially the interior. First and second service is < £200 and at every 2 years or 21000 miles whatever comes first. If you have the money, go check out the big cat!
Some companies got a hundred years experience building cars. Some got a years experience 100 times. Doing it for a long time doesn't mean you're doing it right.

Marcus Rudel Yeah, you have to wonder how 100 years experience making wrought iron transmission cases that only leak a little oil applies to today's technology.
I like it, but it's still very pricey, not exactly mass market. That boot is pretty stingy as well, no bigger than that of a hatchback. Not convinced you'd easily get a buggy (or my practice longswords) in the back.
Its a very nice car and thankfully Jaguar have steered clear on the minimalist interior that Tesla opted for with the model 3. This one has a proper instrument cluster for the driver and environmental controls that allow adjustment by feel.
I find the comparisons a bit odd to the Jaguar. Jaguar keeps comparing it to the much larger 7 passenger Model X which has double the cargo space, but people keep comparing the interior to the Model 3, which is not only half the price, but has a longer range with a smaller battery. The i-Pace is actually closest in size to the Model 3. The Model S is larger, cheaper, faster, lighter, more efficient and has a longer range with a smaller battery, which is probably why Jaguar didn't want to compare it to the Model S. The Model S also controls most of the car using the dual scroll wheels on the steering wheel, including climate control, audio, phone, roof, system info etc. which is actually easier and far superior than hunting for buttons and dials on the Jaguar.
Use your brain.....Seeing as this isn't a hybrid, it's pretty obvious that message is probably because the software is taken from the Land Rover PHEV vehicles. These are obviously prototype vehicles.
Well spotted, so much for quality at this stage. Also 20:26 'no reception DAB'. It seems that the software is still work in progress even as Jaguar has entered production phase. So you need a very strong belief in Jaguar's capability to sort out all these errors before they start delivering to customers. Good luck.
Johnny's first sentence was *"We're at Geneva airport in Switzerland.* I doubt the DAB radio fitted was set up to receive transmissions from CZ, as the car certainly wasn't built or equipped in CZ.
I see that Jag hasn't fixed the location of the system power button and the volume knob. It'd be more logical to have the volume and tuning knobs around the infotainment screen and move the system power button elsewhere (e.g. the drive select area).
I don't understand why you need to criticize Tesla when you do a video about Jaguar, just like mainstream media does. Besides your and their arguments are just funny to listen, "we made a compact SUV, but we will call it SUV and pretend it is a competitor of model X, not Y, because it will be cheaper than X, and we don't care it will be more expensive than Y". Also the Tesla quality argument is somewhat weird as I never seen any major issues with that and customer satisfaction is the highest in Tesla among all car manufacturers. And surely people will choose Jaguar because it makes cars for 100 years, instead of supercharger network, safest car ratings, constant software updates, and very important company's mission, good luck!

So, the Model X comparison is a stretch to the point of being ridiculous in my opinion, but I guess they figured people wouldn't know better.
The dishonest media. The Model X is a true SUV and much bigger. This one is a crossover at best. But hey paid advertisement. No problem but put a disclaimer and don't bash Tesla, if you wanna be considered professional.
Let's see if Jaguar makes more than a few thousand of these things. If you want to impress me, build as many as Tesla or MORE! Until then, it's just another compliance car.
Interesting that they chose that battery. Not better option than the Nickel Cobalt Aluminum batteries (what Tesla uses), but still the best second option. I do not believe the explanations about the aerodynamics at the back zone, does not make sense at all to have such a big “wall” at the back, and trying to convince Jonny was quite a pain to hear. PS: QC might not be the best at Tesla, but in terms of technology they are WAY ahead of any other brand, and the aero is great too, you should recognize it, because it sounded like you where trying to convince viewers of buying a very expensive cars with too much less range than brands such as Hyundai, Tesla or even Renault, what really matters here.
Usually, it's a trade-off between efficiency and lift - a rear that reduces lift at speed typically is more square cut (or with the underside tapering up to meet the upper cut-off) although this then introduces a larger low-pressure zone behind the car that reduces efficiency... but this is one of those areas where even the F1 teams are constantly experimenting and improving...
Well, the trade off is unfortunately a car with a 90kWh battery pack that is smaller and heavier with a shorter range than a Tesla Model 3 with a 60kWh which is closest in size to the i-Pace or the larger Model S 75kWh battery pack. Also, it will be interesting to see what lifespan looks like on the pouch batteries. I haven't seen anything out there that can beat the longevity of the Tesla batteries, so hopefully Jaguar can somewhat match that.
Ive sat down in both the tesla model s and x and in the I pace. I found the quality equally good when looking at the finish. Materials and how they were put together feels really good on both cars. The tesla is more minimalistic and this car feels slightly more cramped but at the same time you feel more snug in the I pace. I don't understand the complaints against teslas fit and finish. I think fully charge is just a bit patriotic and that is the same reason that I as a swede like Volvo.
Are you for real? Your profile even shows you liked a video where someone talks about the Tesla issues. They're well documented across RU-vid. That doesn't mean overall they aren't a good buy, or the best buy - but Tesla's do have fit and finish issues - not to the standard of Mercedes etc. and I presume Jaguar (although Jaguar's have historically been pretty unreliable). So this is nothing to do with patriotism. Telsa have clearly been good at the new stuff, and less good at the traditional manufacturing (producing their cars quickly enough, and without fit and finish issues), while the traditional manufacturers have been poor with tech, and obviously producing and selling EVs. As Johnny said it's converging - and that's exciting.
ShinShinoke i know they have some issues. All car manufacturers do. I am convinced Jaguar will have problems with their I pace too. Their first ev. They have no experience of them. Tesla has lots more.
EVs are a lot less complex to build than regular cars. Only the battery and battery management can be a cause for concern, but in that regard Jaguar should be safe because of their partnership with LG Chem, a leading provider of EV battery packs.
The local Model X is near me had broken switches for the rear doors. I really like Tesla but I have been put off buying one second hand because of build quality issues.
You're missing the point. Expect better tech from Tesla and I would assume a better EV, and expect better fit and finish from Jaguar. That's Johnny's point about convergence. Tesla will get better at the traditional car stuff, and the traditional car manufacturers will get better at the EV stuff. The I-Pace looks well designed though, and is made by Steyr anyway - which is promising (as Jaguar's have traditionally been pretty unreliable). So a modern EV, with ergonomic controls, luxury finish, and Austrian made, with Korean battery tech sounds great actually.
Just got to drive one at the LA Auto Show! A absolutely fantastic vehicle! Great acceleration, great fit and finish, great tech. A very solid and well built car. Also handles very well for a car of it's bulk. Not a Tesla killer but a more refined driving experience!
Once the I-Pace is in production, I think Jonny will give a more balanced review, comparing critical things like range, price, and performance when benchmarked against the competition.

Jonny - when an EV car has regen high or low - the car obviously is slowing down once you take your foot off the accelerator - does the rear brake lights come on to warn the driver behind you ?

Steady on, Jonny, Jaguar was famous for QC issues, and any car maker is a technology company. Tesla's sin is not worshipping at the lad's temple of old school motorsport. The I-Pace s a beautiful vehicle, but a very urban concept of an SUV: heavy on the sport, little utility. The SUV was already a crossover; this is a car. I'd have preferred a saloon, like an old xj-type (i-xj) with off-road abilities; the only real difference: more trunk space.
Now, the iPace is built mainly from aluminium, and that doesn't rust. But aluminium can crack from strain/fatigue or corrode when combined with other metals ...
I know someone who used to work for Jag in the 70s and they said that after the chaises were fitted and ready for painting, they leave them outside for weeks and they'd end up rusting on the inside.
Sorry aerodynamic or not it needs a rear wiper. My Volt is very aerodynamic but it gets covered in dust and condensation and even ice on the rear screen. Not having a rear wiper to remove is a pain in the bum, easily the worst feature on a Mk1 Volt besides the touch dash layout.
What they've done is carefully angle the rear screen so that the airflow is fully attached acroos the full depth of the glass, which iirc also gets a stay-clean coating.
If only you didn't bash Tesla so much on Quality issues, when you're talking about Jaguar, a company that has the most notorious reputation for horrible reliability and production quality issues. Also half of the features shown here are not only copied but are outright signature Tesla features, but they're shown here like it's new introductions by the i-pace (dual motors, single pedal driving, front trunk with cab forward design, flat structural battery, etc.). Is this review bias, or was this a promotional video for Jaguar?
A great informative bit about this Jag.. but very biased review with little real world comparison to what is also available in its real competition. It is great that Jag built a true EV before many of its rivals.. but to leave out the charging infrastructure.. lack of ability to grow into self driving (everything is going to need to go that way in the not too distant future).. is it at all over the air upgradeable? Even just for its nav system? Do you STILL have to back to Jag and pay for updated maps? Charge speeds it’s capable of? How is this vehicle going to manage trips beyond a single charge? Tons of important EV info missing in this review. But yes the interior is legacy setup and that will comfort some people who don’t like change..
Some fair points but you seemed to have missed the point - it's not a review. He's not weighing up this as a purchase. It's a first look preview with the manufacturer. And he's just being polite and enthusiastic.
airheart1 Brilliant comment, I fully agree. And I am not sure whether the battery pack is liquid-cooled, so repeated fast-charging might become a thermal problem.
Given the use of the heat pump - sorry, thermal scavenger - to warm the battery when it's cold, there must be some form of thermal management, which should therefor also be able to cool it (probably easier to do that, then fit an electric heating element to every battery pack)
_"Lack of ability to grow into self driving"?_ There will almost certainly be self-driving I-PACEs before, say, self-driving Teslas, because Jaguar has teamed up with Waymo to supply a significant portion of their fleet of autonomous taxis. It was announced a couple of weeks ago. I can find you a link if you like. As far as I know, Tesla is the only company selling cars that are claimed to have sufficient hardware for a future self-driving capability. There are no guarantees here. But if customers start believing this is a sensible bet, presumably Jaguar can easily start making the additional hardware available to consumers - perhaps as an optional upgrade at the time of ordering.
9:24 - a heat pump for heating. Yeah, the BMW i3 has had it since 2014. Single pedal driving... yep, has that too. Good to see others joining the fray.
So why is it being built by Magna Steyr in Austria when JLR have just laid off 1000 contractors and relocated 362 permanent staff from Castle Bromwich to Solihull ?
Where is the disclaimer? Jonny was a paid presenter at the unveiling of the Jaguar i-Pace in Austria, there is some conflict of interest here. So, let's address this first: Jaguar has never lacked in quality control? Just take a look at previous models and say that again. In addition, tiny Jaguar, the company sold twice in the last two decades, is presented as an equal to big car companies Daimler, BMW and Audi - seriously? Don't get me wrong, I love EVs and prefer any EV over an ICE car any day. But no traditional car manufacturer has ever given long-term support to existing models; you wanted an up-to-date in-car navigation, you would have to buy the next model of the car. Only Tesla handles that differently with frequent over-the-air updates, Autopilot, retrofitting of the next-gen media console, plus Tesla provides a fast-charging network for long-distance travel. So that got brushed over way too quickly in this report - as a Supercharger network is the Achilles heel to the general acceptance of electric cars. And by the way, such a pricy Jaguar i-Pace car only gets a cheap slow one-phase AC charger? So, your kitchen stove could draw more electric energy from the grid than your charging i-Pace? There's a design flaw. Other than that, the i-Pace seems to be a very nice car, which I look forward to see on the streets quite often and quite soon.
Marcus Rudel I personally don't quite get the use-case for a big onboard charger. Either you want public charging which supports CCS anyway or you charge at home while you sleep.
Spot the Tesla fan boy. What about the Nissan LEAF or any other electric vehicle other than a Tesla - which there are far more of - and charging? There's no real issue there - lots of charging facilities exists and are increasing. He's stating Jaguar are a traditional car manufacturer which they are. So yes, in that sense unlike Tesla they are like Mercedes, BMW and Audi - a luxury traditional car manufacturer - but the first of those to make their EV available. I haven't checked but I'm aware of the quality control issues with Teslas and I doubt Jaguar would have the same issues with regard to body panels not lining up properly or door issues etc. Also they likely won't have the same production issues. That's his point. He said it's converging - so Tesla will get better at the traditional car manufacturing stuff, and the traditional car manufacturers will get better at the new tech.
Jaguar quality isn't traditionally the best, but they do rate a little better in reliability surveys than a certain North American company. Also, Tata has owned JLR for just over 10 years, so they haven't been sold at all in that time.
Jaguar had over 200 prototypes on test, shows they are committed. It's laughable that VW apparently has just one prototype each of its Buzz and Golf replacement and wants to us to take them seriously about claims of new EVs and dominating the market.
I had an '87 VW Scirocco with a gap between the spoiler and glass, and it really didn't need a rear wiper, even though it had one (when it broke 6 years on I didn't bother fixing it). Yes, there could be occasional bird shit, but wipers don't do much for that unless it's fresh, anyway.
The Ioniq doesn't have a rear wiper. It's fine at speed but when you get in, or drive at a low speed, you really want something to sweep the water off straight away. But I could live with it. Oh yes, I could live with it. If I could afford the IPace...
One of the best car reviews i'v ever watched. Shame the cones bit was a bit micky mouse but looking forward to see how it goes when you get one to test properly and can stretch its legs. Well done you all.
