I so lusted after this when it came out. Could've afforded one but ultimately, I'm just as happy with my M1 Mac Mini. Even does 4K editing in FCP reasonably well. That said, damn I want those PCIe slots and MOAR GPU lol.

if u want to do a room update, you should get laminate/engineered flooring. u dont even need to rip the old floor up, just place it on top and click the pieces. would make ur space 10x more modern ;)

Yeah I know lol, it would be nice to redo the floor and repaint the mustard yellow walls a different color. I just really like how I have everything set up and don't feel like emptying the room

I just bought one used in 2023, very happy. 16core 384/2tb afterB vega 2 for about the same cost as a new M1 ultra studio. But I wanted the intel cpu. its great at the moment.

Nice! I upgraded mine to the 12 core a while back. Despite how great Apple Silicon is, I still love this machine and plan on using it for several more years

The M1 stuff is not faster than your tower for real work. I edit 4.6k raw video and my 2017 iMac Pro kicks the crap out of all of my M1 stuff. Benchmarks don’t mean squat

Interesting

Same here. I edit 4k h.265 footage (10bit 422) on a 2013 Trashcan. Works just fine.

Any idea how it compares to the newer 12 core m2 pro/max?

I love the design of this enclosure but can't justify purchasing one, especially now of course with Apple silicon systems. But someday maybe future Mac Pros will have this case and over time these or them will get cheaper like 2012 and earlier Mac Pros.

Yeah, I imagine that'll happen.

I wanted one of these so bad in 2019 even though I had no real use for one lol

I mean you could argue I don't either lol. I just use it as my home computer. But I like it so yolo

Wish I could afford one

Definitely the most expensive piece of tech I've ever purchased lol

I can't wait to see how the Apple Silicon Mac Pro would look like
@accordinglyryan

I'm very interested as well, no idea how they're going to handle the upgradability/modularity since that's like the entire point of the Mac Pro

@@accordinglyryan they've learnt their lesson with the 2013 Mac Pro. The main reason it failed was the lack of thunderbolt 2 adoption. They could've replaced the iMac Pro with an updated trash can Mac Pro with 6 TB3 ports and the same starting price of $3000, and it would have sold way better than the 2013 one. But Apple went all in with upgradability and modularity and released a tower PC just a year before their announcement of transitioning away from Intel. The future of Mac Pro looks great and with custom Apple Silicon chips, there might be a reason Apple might release an all new Xserve as well.

@@sriramsundar8388 Right, but as of now all AS Macs are completely integrated and non-upgradable. I dunno how they're going to get around that.

the apple silicon mac pro is kind of a flop. Its only expandability is pcie slots with no gpu support. I can tell they are simply trying to use the old chassis before either phasing it out or replacing it with a new deisgn.
