3/22/2019 - 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championships Quarterfinal match from the 141 lb weight class between (1) Yianni Diakomihalis (Cornell) & (9) Dom Demas (Oklahoma)
I haven't seen too many Demas matches so I don't know about him but I have seen Yianni offer lots of handshakes at the start of every round. Lots of 2 hand ones too like he did to start this match.
Dom is a really nice kid, always super respectful and shows a lot of sportsmanship...I dint know him but he wrestled a kid I coached (when he was jn hs) last year at ncaa, killed my kid, patted him on the back, helped him up, said good match to him, shook the other coaches hand and walked off...very good kid it seems
The scrambles Yianni created in the final 30 seconds of the first two periods were immaculate , Demas fell right into his trap, Demas definitely stepped on that line ready to fight all tournament tho
* bump * this video Yianni's instinct to lock his hands at the end of the 1st possibly saved him from 2+back points but led him into a takedown of his own. The champ being a champ.
I don't see Demas ever beating Yianni. Demas has a good enough defense to keep the score low, but lacks the offense to win. He's a one-trick pony with that inside trip.
@@tylernicholson5319 He's a good young wrestler, I'm pretty sure that Demas will add to his toolbox during the off-season. Can't wait to see the improvements.
Demas is good and will get better. But Yianni will probably improve even more. After this NCAA championship, he's had 4 incredible bouts vs Zain Retherford fighting for the USA national team trying to compete for worlds. Hard to see Yianni even losing next year
Kinda crazy how Dom initiated so many nice throw bud that some how Yianni landed in perfect positions to score. That kid can really wrestle though any position. Total mat rat!
Yianni was out of bounds on that takedown at the end of the second. his one foot that was in came off completely. they should have whistled. These refs didn't do the best job this championship.
In college you are still in bounds as long and any part of any wrestlers body is hovering over the outside edge of the white circle, and as long as one of them isn’t going off the mat onto the floor or the next mat.
Demas stopped wrestling everytime they got into a good scramble . Thats why Yianni scored the takedowns, Demas came into this match knowing he was the underdog and it doesnt look like he thought he could win. You cant win a wrestling match like that.
DJ Tanner you mean at 5:18 when he baited him and got he take down he wanted? What about the other moment?Don’t let the score fool you. Hats off to his opponent but Yianni easily won this. The problem with Yanni is he lacks next level strength. So he has to rely on superb technique and confusion to beat his opponents. I’m hoping this is something he addresses in the off-season. He was never in any true danger of being pinned
