I'm a sucker for Chrome and Whitewalls. I picked up a 19 Deluxe earlier this Summer and then outfitted it like a Heritage (windscreen, bags, cruise) and also a set of engine guards (more chrome, of course). Bottom line: Find the bike you like and make it yours. The M8/107 with the 6-speed is smooth and powerful.
Great review. I’ve had my 2019 Deluxe in Wicked Red/Twisted Cherry (like your test bike) for 4 weeks now and I love it. You captured the bike well, classic old school looks with modern tech and handling and acceleration much better than the old school looks would suggest. I got the Harley accessory bags, screen, rear seat and back rest which turns it into a great two-up tourer and they remove quickly and easily back to the solo look. Also I got the Stage I tune which releases the potential and sound of the M8. I mostly ride it with just the bags fitted and the solo seat. Very happy. It’s a great bike.
I've watched several of your videos I live in north Carolina and its awesome to have a person from across the pond giving reviews on Harley's keep up the awesome videos.
I bought one of the last twin cam 103 Deluxes in late 2018 as I preferred the look and finish over the M8 version, plus I also liked the better low-end power delivery of the TC. Both great bikes and the beauty of the Deluxe is it handles and goes round corners better than any other Softail due to the narrow tyres. Super plush ride also...
Love love the Deluxe but Harley just announced they were discontinuing it as of 2021. If you don’t agree write to them and express your displeasure with their move.
THAT is a beautiful bike, and if I came in to some fast money, I would buy one today! Stock is perfect for that machine, and in your introduction when you said "Don't expect too much" as far as the sound goes, you don't want a bike like that to sound like a dragster. That is the quintessential "cruiser" and I wouldn't change a thing on it. If anything, I'd like a 114 engine. Man I sure wish old Aunt Tilly would kick the bucket and leave me a bundle... (Good video brother.)
Hey. Thanks for the vid on the deluxe. Traded my Sportster on one exactly the same two tone red. The bike is a looker but very nimble and I don't feel the weight at low speed. But it is a heavy bike wet and for me I just need to take care where I park. But of all the Harleys I've owned this is miles in front and not one I'd want to change... Love it.
Love the way you review while riding...without a lot of time spent brochure-reading at the top. That is just the type of riding I will be enjoying. I had been shopping Road Kings when the Deluxe caught my eye. My 2019 Black Beauty (w only 843 miles) is getting delivered this week. Cant wait!
I have a 2005 Deluxe. Bike has been great. I originally bought for my wife due to the low seat height. She decided she did not want to ride, so I decided to keep it. I still like the look, but have done a number of mods.
I have an 2001 Softail Deuce. Diamond cut the heads and jugs. Added bigger cam and pistons. It's a rocket. Love it . Your driving on the wrong side of the road scared the hell out of me.
Got a 2017 Deluxe, put 40,000 km already, and absolutely love it! But I don’t understand why cruise control and back seat disappeared from 2018, there are really crucial features for a cruiser, right?
My dream bike ! That and the Triumph bobber, the Harley softail slim, and... and... Well, you know how it is when you love everything ! If I had my way, I'd need a warehouse for a garage.
That B-Roll position stuff, that's awesome. I wish more views had that. I really appreciate that. Im 5ft 11in, so being similar size to you I know better how I'd fit on said bike. Great idea! Those bars btw are Pull-Back handle bars. This is one of the 3 bikes I really wanna buy but I can only get one of them.
Good review. I think the deluxe gets lost in the multiple of available softails. If you want bags, you go the heritage. I've always thought the deluxe was the heritage without bags. I'm 6"3 and recently purchased a roadking special. I test rode most of the softails but didn't consider the deluxe. I did consider the breakout though
Wonderful review. I liked where you said "no vibration coming through" as butt discomfort would be my concern. Owned a band new 1992 softail deluxe 1340 in the day which wasn't that comfortable despite the name. I am guessing these are a different softail altogether however. Need to test ride one obviously. I think the softail deluxe is the best blend of old and new.
Nice bike. However, my head has been turned twice now in 48 hours. First Matt Laidlaw finally convinced me to switch from idea of a Lowrider with a stage 3 and blacked out, to a Heritage Classic with a stage 3 (already blacked out). Then again last night with the dealer show live from Milwaukee and the new Lowrider S, already blacked out, dual disc front brakes, 28° rake (down from 30°) inverted from forks and the new M8 114 (which I intend to put a stage 3 on because that'll be mental and I don't like the stock exhaust or air cleaner). So, I'm back to the Lowrider S. Trouble is I don't return to the UK until 2021, so I need to hope that this time they keep it in production for long enough. Or if any UK dealer wants my money now, can fit a stage 3 then keep the bike unregistered until Sep 2021 I'm here, contact me. So motonewbrider, how quickly can you get a 2020 Lowrider S test ride?
As soon as they drop in the UK I'll be on one. Not sure on the dates however I'll keep everyone posted on Facebook as well. PS between you and I my heads turned on the new lowrider S so watch this space.
@@Motonewbrider Big news {for me). I'm in contact with Sandy Caulfield of Sykes and I'm in the process of ordering a Lowrider S. I'm putting down a deposit today (as soon as he provides me the bank details) and then I'll take delivery when I return to the UK in 2021. It's going to be a bit of a project, Stage 3 to 117ci, Bassani 2:1 exhaust, air cleaner and FP3. 12" apes, all blacked out, pillion seat and pegs, front indicators switched for integrated LED running light indicator combo same on rear and side mount licence plate holder, flip the mirrors and maybe a new rear fender. We're still talking about the tank, I'm not sure about the Harley Davidson font, may switch that to a simple brass logo, or emblem and then denim black paint the tank. So stoked! I told them I'm ordering with them because of you and PhatG as I'll be living in Stafford when we return, so it's going to be a bit of a trek to collect but it'll be worth it I'm sure. If you want you could take it for a ride when it's finished, if there's still an interest then (Sykes have agreed to hold the bike until 2021 when I return to UK so not sure when they'll do the build).

I enjoyed this video... hard to believe perhaps, I just purchased a 2018 version with 200 miles... you describe the motorcycle accurately... may I ask you where the rear rack could be acquired... thank you so much...
The catalog add on cruise control does not work. Need a Heritage control with passing lamp switch and cruise. Add bags and detachable w/s and the rack like this bike and it travels distances well.
Why were there so many people on the side of the road? What were they doing? Great bike. I went & looked at a 2015 model 103' used & it seemed a bit heavy compared to the Fat Bob. I do prefer the look though.
Great review, I personally love the deluxe, for me it looks like a naked heritage with shield and bags removed. What do you think? How you compare it with the heritage 2018+ having tested both? Ride safe, cheers!
Headlights, rather would like the Quartz Halogen lights. Those damn blue things give me a splitting headache and at night, the colors are all wrong. Love the bike but not the lights.
Bought a 2018 black Deluxe at the very end of the 2018 model year. Waited to see if the 2019 might come out with a 114 and it didn't, so got a better price on the 2018. Absolutely LOVE this motorcycle! Just hit 9600 miles. Went with a stage 2 upgrade with 2 torque kit and very happy with the added power at the lower rpm's. Added the cruise control too and very happy I did. Vance & Hines Eliminator 300 slip ons provide the perfect sound for this bike. Not hard or edgy but a low beautiful sumptuous rumble. And then of course, I can't stop staring at it. I think it's Harley's most beautiful iconic look. Can't recommend enough.
