Too simple honestly. I think it's unacceptable to have something the basic. But that's just me, some people are into that.

Simplicity suits the 4Runner well overall. It's a -truck- SUV that performs well in its element. :-)

matt lebo they should try to decrease the weight of these and try to make it fuel efficient. I think if they made a 2 liter 4 cylinder turbo engine for these, it will be a success in terms of sales, many people stay off these and cars such as land cruisers cause of the terrible MPG these things get, including myself.

I have had my 2019 TRDPRO for 2600 miles. Drove it to Seattle from San Diego and I am currently in the middle of my trip in the Olympic National forest. Pros: 1. knobs. Just like these guys state, the knobs are BIG and BOld. You can not under estimate this feature. It is 20 degrees on hurrican ridge and when you get into the truck...these knobs are so big, even when my hands are shaking i can get to heat, or even change a radio station. 2. Clearance. Getting over small to medium size obstacles, wood, streams, mud...NO problem. I have used 4HIGH...no need so far to use LOW or the crawl feature. 3. Highway visabilty and cruising speed. Hypothetically, if i did speed, it does great at 80 with a skybox 16s and bike rack. I also have a hitch mounted rack for game(It is very robust and can hold up to 450 pounds) 4. Looks from the ladies. I am not a great looking dude. But this truck and my face? We get smiles ALL day long. Now these are mountain women, and some people don't like attention from mountain women. I am 46 and single. Me likey. 5. The back window that can go up and down (all the way). My dog loves this feature. I can't tell you how often I keep that window down for the cross breeze between the sunroof and back window. When you camp for a long period of time...fresh air is necessary cause you smell sub optimal. 6. Secret compartment for your sling shot or boomerang. When you lay your seats down, there is this compartment you will miss if you are not looking for it. I think it is for a whatever you want to hide...but it is awesome. Very concealed and to be honest, it makes you feel like you have a special place for equipment just in case shit goes down. 7. The fake plether. I love it. It doesn't smell like cow butt and it seems to do well with dampness *(i wipe it down if I am too wet, but so far, it really hasn't cracked or faded. But i only had this car 1.5 months and 2600 miles. 8. The Black on Black with TRD red imprints. Man, i don't know why I am not married yet....it would seem the ladies should love this. 9. Sound system is way better than the 2018. 10. The defrost works like a charm. Man, it works good here in the PNW...almost unnatural how well it clears out my front and back windows. Cons: 1. The new rack is really bad choice by Toyota. It hold 110 pounds!. I replaced this immediately with a BAJA flat rack (300 /600 dynamic)that looks sleek and my yakima racks and box fit ON top of these and it is still lower profile than that OEM rack with my 16s Yaki box. The decision to go with a weak rack on an awesome outdoor vehicle is crazy. I removed my rack the day i bought this truck (and then and to tape the holes as I waited for my BAJA rack. The wait is anywhere from 2-4 weeks. 2. the rubberized outdoor matts that come standard do not go high enough. I am in the PNW. It rains every day and I am muddy. I have to shake that mat out every other day. It needs more height like the 3rd party weather tech mats. Those are some special matts. You could drop a few sodas, fish guts, mud, and there would be room for your feet to drive. 3. 15.7 mpg. for my first 2600 miles. That is my average. I do not try to drive dainty. I do not try to drive like a punk. I just do my thing and this is my average. This truck has over a 21 gallon tank so plan on eating burritos. 4. Doesn't COME with side boulder guards/steps. I think this is crazy especially since the OEM rack sits so high!. The only way you are getting up there is to step on your tire. Which doesn't allow you to reach toward the front without opening a door and stepping inside your truck. No biggy, but see #2. You will collect dirt and mud quick. 5. HEAVY rain and speeding. Yeah, I know you shouldn't do this and I know you should get specialized tires not knobbies. BUT if anyone tells you that this truck is rock solid in rain road driving (like rock solid like my ex subaru which was 100% made for rainy roads but NOT for clearance in the back country...) they are lying. This is a heavy truck and that helps. All my gear really weighs it down so I don't lose control or anything... but the other day, it was pouring and my gear was out of my truck and there were a few moments at 50 MPH where it got a bit squirrely on the back end. Hey..don't speed in the rain....or buy a outback and don't go so deep into the woods. 6. The price. Man they do NOT negotiate on these. Each dealer seems to get very few of these in...so if you do get a discount, you are the man or women. I paid full price plus premium and that is the first time I have ever done that in my life....but man...it is purty.

Great, sure. There's certainly a place for a simple, underpowered, bullet-proof reliable off road throwback vehicle... but it shouldn't cost more than the vehicles that are actually taking chances and innovating. I'd have no problem with a 35k 4runner, but 50k+ is just pants-on-head crazy with how basic and cheap these vehicles are.
@that1guy524
@that1guy524 4 года назад
Nathaniel Kerns it’s not the infotainment that’s the price, it’s the mechanical part of the vehicle and what it is capable of that is the most expensive part. Also don’t forget most of these vehicles are made in Japan. That’s also another factor to put in.

For all the grief Toyota gets for this truck lacking some of the latest gadgetry, what it does is offer an incredibly stout, capable, RELIABLE, go-anywhere vehicle that you can buy and drive for a decade without worry. AND, it's improving it's sales numbers every year. Love these, but I'd save a big chunk of money and just get a TRD Offroad, not the PRO, and do my own lift and tires down the line sometime. You still get all the ATRAC, Locker, Crawl Control, etc.

@@MontyPiper I traded in my 18 Tundra TRD Off Road Limited for the 19 4RUNNER TRD Off Road Premium with the XP package. And there are some things that I miss that I wanted to point out. First of all, are the LED headlights on the Tundra. Not that the halogen lights on the 4R are bad, it's just a noticeable difference. Next is the 4R is the only vehicle in Toyota's lineup that I am aware of that does not have the TSS. So no distance pacing cruise control, land departure alert and cross traffic detection. So if you like those features be aware that they are not on the 4R. I came to appreciate and enjoy some of the TSS features, like the distance pacing cruise control.

I was actually between a 4Runner Off Road, Tacoma Off Road, and a Wrangler JLU Sport (the most base I can get with crank windows). After some test drives I have to say drive through windows are a great workout now. I love how my Wrangler JLU handles on road, for now. It has the stock SUV All Season tires on it, so when lifted and more knobby Rubicon-esque tires my tune may change. I loved the 4Runner and Taco, I just wanted stick and decided an SUV would be a better option for me over the truck. Was definitely a hard choice to have to make though!
@mj-np9sy
@mj-np9sy 5 лет назад
My rubi is great on the road, the only issue is sidewinds but that's not a matter of my tires. A big problem is most dealers have the tires super overinflated. They should be around 37 on the highway, mine came with 45-50 and was really hard to keep straight. I was shopping between the 4R, Taco, and Z71 Diesel. Wish I'd gotten the Diesel jeep but they're still not delivering. Hopefully the Bronco gives us a modern offroad SUV competitor to stop the Jeep pricing from climbing. Ridiculous pricing. I really wanted to love the 4r. Maybe next model.

Agreed toyota cheaped out a bit there. Although hear me out... the braking distances are actually better than both the zr2 and the ranger so unless you plan on towing or going nuts on a track it truly won't hurt you. That and drums tend to last twice as long and are cheaper to replace pads. Again I get why people are a bit peeved about it and toyota does need to pull their head out of the sand on this! Buuuuut with better performance at less cost to you over time its kind of an over beaten dead horse.

Man I have a 2018 4runner sr5 man and everytime I see these videos of the TRD Pro or Off Road I get a little sad but at the end of the day I'll prob never use the off roading features that much so I'm not that upset, otherwise I fucking love this truck man. It's just such a pleasure to drive in traffic or on the open road. I originally got it coming out of my e92 beamer due to my need to lower my yearly maintenance and ticket costs so I was somewhat excited going into this truck but once I did I was blown away at how great of a vehicle this is. Love it man. If anyone is thinking about getting one of these I highly recommend it, maybe get the sr5 premium or the trd off road. I've heard of people getting pretty solid deals on the TRD off roads for about close to what I payed for my sr5 which was the main reason I was upset I didnt get it but oh well fuck it now. Overall 9.5/10 for the 4runner only downsides I've noticed with this car is the fuel consumption which is pretty low if u live in a borderline city area (13 mpg) and gear ratios on the tranny which can make highway driving a little bit weird as the rpms are a bit higher than usual compared to a car with a 6 speed and so on.

Only thing I did to my SR5 7 seater was upgrade tires. I wish it had more cargo space when the 3rd row is up. Then again I guess no one use 3rd row when going off-road. Absolutely love it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P1yw9tjhXPw.html

@@PianoBlackTrimRep. I won't complain for short distance like taking your office mates to lunch or something. Comfort is bit towards firm side (on SR5, might be different for Limited). Getting in to the 3rd row is not the easiest and sometimes I forget how to open the 3rd row seats but not hard, you will figure out in a minute without a user manual. The only complain I have is when the 3rd row seat is up you have very less cargo area. My explanation may not give much idea, definitely a must to see at a dealership. Also if you have all weather carpets including your cargo area you need to remove the cargo carpet or keep it straight behind the 3rd row seat. You cannot bring up the 3rd row seat with that thick carpet.
@MrStreetballer5Official
@MrStreetballer5Official 5 лет назад
@@PianoBlackTrimRep. To be honest coming from the e92 coupe the 4runner you sit way more up high and upright to see over the hood. It's pretty great to be quite honest- its roomy and comfortable and provides plenty of space with more to give (Considering I'm 6'2 200lbs) One of my overall favorite seating positions.

Fantastic video, as always! Just a little bit of insider info I got straight from our region's distributors: Toyota is currently throwing around the idea of dropping a small V8 (assuming 4.6L) in the 2020 4Runner, as well as replace the 4.0 with the 3.5L that comes in the Highlander. Could be good for those who complain about the gas mileage, hopefully won't compromise the towing capacity (the current HL and 4Rs have the same capacity), and it might also mean that they plan to update the rest of the SUV, as well.
@hordboy
@hordboy 5 лет назад
The 3.5 is a horrible engine in the Tacoma, if they put it in the 4Runner it will be a huge mistake. The 4.0 is just fine!
@Jojo.F87
@Jojo.F87 5 лет назад
@@hordboy I think most of the Tacoma's issues are in the transmission more than the engine. I do like the 4.0 better than the 3.5, but it's great in the Sienna and Highlander. As long as they don't throw in that god-awful transmission as well, I think the 3.5 could be a good change for the 4Runner overall. Of course I'd be just as happy if they kept the 4.0 and added the 4.7 v8 as an option.

That’s why Toyota is generally more expensive, because Americans build them, and we pay them American wages, and we get taxed more because of it too. American vehicles have gone to shit, terrible build quality, foreign parts, and unreliability... Buy TOYOTA because your money is going to the American people who build them, and the parts sourced from American companies. Toyota does more for America’s economy than any other manufacturer.

2018 TRD, non-Pro in White. Bought it to travel and overland. Chose the non-Pro, because *really* wanted KDSS. Wasted chance by Toyota of not offering KDSS in the Pro. Things I don't really like: all the plastic attract dust, especially moondust. Not being able to turn off the video screen. The glare late nights is distracting. Things I adore: KDSS, an "anti-sway bar", it stiffens on high-speed, loosens on low-speed. Rear window down in summer, makes the 4 feel open and almost roofless. Just add Bridgestone KO2s and be happy. I expect 1 million km, or get bored before.

I own two 4runners. I have no complaintsm it's a niche truck that does well. All the complaints are from non 4runner owners who are RU-vid car reviewers. So their opinion doesn't count for shit. They're awesome at daily driving, harsh weather and do it realibily. The 2017 Trd pro and 2016 limmited. Be prepared for aweful milage in city. And highway wasn't any better. The Trd is 4x4 and can be made into 2 wheel drive which gives me a whopping 2 miles per gallon more. But the limmited is AWD. All the time. It's got a very harsh and stiff "sporty suspension" which helps in handling but..it lacks crawl control. So just know that. However uve been able to do what my Rrd does in my limmited minus the red suspension. On both models I never see anything above 14 in city. Its not transmission. Transmission is perfect. It's a very heavy body on frame and the 4.0 L feels ample but I suspect that Tue 4runner would benefit from being being a v8 again and do cylinder deactivation. It's not that the v6 isnt enough for the job. It is. It's more than enough even hauling it did a spectacular job at hauling 5k lbs. But toyota feels if they offered the V8 in. Limmited model then people would have reason to buy the lexus gx460. Which I feel shared alot of identical interior features and designs but with a more refined ride and v8.

Agreed. But Made in Japan has a cost. I will swap my headlights and the radio at some point. And add an after-market snorkel, just because. But 1st year of ownership has shown to me that I should just drive and enjoy. I was mixed on the auto, but having done off-road/overland classes (shout-out to Overland Expo East), I think my lack of decades of off-road-crawl+clutch-work means that the auto is a better/safer solution for me.

Reliability is one thing, but considering even the Tacoma has been refreshed for some time now, it's clear Toyota has newer technology that it could add to the 4Runner, but simply has not yet.
