2020 BMW M135i xDrive review - Hot Hatch Chasing After The Pack 

Congrats! It is a great car, for sure. It’s just that it offers a different driving experience compared to the old m140i, which was more sports car than hot hatch.

Thanks for watching! The M135i and M140i offer vastly different driving experiences. Both good, but in many people's view, the M140i with rear-wheel drive is just better and more engaging to drive.

M140i can’t put the power down. People say it’s fun but realistically it’s not, if you turn the traction control off your off, if you leave it on it cuts the power and you lose every race and its not fast. Rwd is fun in go karts and on tracks - not the road.

Is there anything that can be done to make more pops and bangs without modifying e.g unplug or disconnect connector, plugs on the m135i to achieve this. Btw there is a setting you can change on the screen to switch off the interior fake exhaust sound. I have ordered a m135i factory build. From the other reviews I have seen it comes to my understanding that after around approximately 1500 miles from new the car makes more sound from exhaust due to the car components getting more settled. @@ku6652 Hey there, The only way to make the pops and bangs louder is to fit an aftermarket exhaust to the m135i. I didn't find the setting to disable the fake sound - i looked in the settings for the Sport Individual drive mode, but it didn't give you the option to turn it off. It might be buried somewhere in the new iDrive menu which is a bit confusing (i preferred the previous version of the system). The car I drove had just over 7,600 km (so around 2,200 miles) and it was quite loud from the outside; inside, without the engine sound through the speakers, it's actually a bit too quiet. @@benjaminfhaas Well, it picks up any nearby shades. Out in the open it really catches the blue of the sky, but it really depends on where it's parked and lighting conditions. I think it's the best color to have the 135i in.

Yes, the M140i can catch you out, but the awd model addresses that. This new M135i is surely a more manageable car to drive, but not as fun or tactile as the older one.

@@OneTireFire well I live in the UK and the weather isn't always sunny warm and dry, so I've ordered the new m135i and selling the m140i, as fun as it has been on those wet cold days it was pointless. When sat at lights and something with a lot less power can out drag you because its wet, what is the point in just spinning your wheels. Also the interior and the seats are a step up, spec'd up with a few toys it's everything you could want in a car

@@markrhoden68 i actually tried launching the M135i hard in wet, near freezing conditions and it had minimal problems putting its power down.

@@OneTireFire and thats the difference, come winter ill still be able to drive the m135i with a little vigar rather than tippy toeing around a bend as I do in my m140i. Thanks for the input I know I've made a good choice 👍

VENOMIC GAMING well, I’m pretty sure that when these press cars reach a certain number of km, they repair all the damage and put them up for sale.

Well, that was my attitude before driving it too. But it really isn't bad for something with its configuration. Sure, I prefer the old rear-wheel drive 1 Series too, but BMW knows it has higher profit margins with this FWD model so that's what it's doing.

All new BMWs, even some of the diesels, have fake sounds in the cabin. On some of them it's more subtle than on others, but on the M135i, you really notice the difference between what it actually sounds like and the fakery. I really don't know why they did it, because the four-cylinder engine actually sounds pretty nice and sporty.
