I never thought in my life, that the most anticipated cruiser (R18) would be from BMW, and the most anticipated ADV bike (Pan American) would be from Harley Davidson. 🤣🤣🤣 it's like a sick joke. Need to win the lottery now, so I can have both bikes in my garage.

Having become bored with low RPM, air-cooled cruisers, I sold my big V-twin USA Cruiser and touring bikes. Now have only 3 Huge Fast Japanese racing bikes. I even sold the Ducati Diavel Carbon that bridged the gap and at one time, excited me. Now I see this rolling dose of testosterone, mojo and attitude... BMW, this 1 has my attention in a big way.

I think it's gorgeous! Those heads are so huge though. I was kinda hoping they would have just used the R1200 AC engine, but this thing is awesome! I hope they don't mess with it much (fairing, speedo, enclosed shaft, longer fenders) but they probably will. As long as the aftermarket is there, this thing will scream from showrooms. Hell, I'd love it if frames like this were avail for home builds for all the air-cooled engines. Hope this comes to fruition. Well done BMW.

They’ll have to revise the front end, as in some form of “girder” linkage, or (?). There too much rake in it, as it is now, for the telescopic forks to “slide” without binding or flexing. Also if you watch the slow speed rider at the show, the front wheel wants to “flop” from side to side, indicating a need for a revised rake and trail 😉.

@@doedecaheedron Yes BMW Service is pricey. That, I agree, but that design let's you do your own oil changes and air filter changes. You can learn how to do valve adjustments. The rest of it would need to be done in a shop. You just have to plan for it and have the money ready when its time to do it. One way to save on work is make friends with a mechanic that knowzs what he's doing. That can save you some money and give you a friend to ride with too. There are ways to make it easier. Do the best you can. I dont like to pay $100.00 an hour for shop time either. Harley Shop is no different. They gouge you for service too.

I'd love them to install the mirrors on the fronst fork's suspension tubes themselves, like it's seen in the new Harley Davidson Livewire electric motorbike (not on the handlebar, but on the front fork, suspension tubes). Could give R18 the mighty look it has without the mirrors, which is good. Also, they should incline the chair a little bit forwrads to create some contra as your body is being pushed back while accelerating. Btw, to me the seating position doesn't seem quite comfortable. It looks like you need to pull the handlebar just to stay on the motorbike, otherwise you would be fallen backwards. Maybe they can set the pedals a little bit lower to forwards for high riders... Overall, looking smoke hot motorbike

Really gorgeous scooter that I will never own. At 70 years old I am certain it will be well beyond my "pocketbook." I ride an R1200C. They didn't sell well but has been my favorite scooter. I owned a few Harleys and some other v-twins. I do have a Guzzi 1100 Bassa "California" too. I like that one as well. Both are very comfortable rides. Those giant cylinders sticking out the side of a motorcycle are just ridiculous. You don’t need a kickstand, just lean the bike on a cylinder head. I think I’ll stretch out my legs, oh I can’t the giant cylinders are in the way. Bummer I need heat shields on my shins, because the giant cylinders are rubbing against them. Bummer I dropped my bike and I cracked a cylinder head. Engine rebuild. Go back to the drawing board BMW. And while you at it design a stage one, two, three, and four, slip on exhausts, and a bunch of bolt on shiny things if you really want the Harley crowd.

I am a cruiser fan, but not an orthodox one. I don't care how does it work but what it provides me. I have an Indian Springfield and would see no problem if it was a BMW cruiser. However, there are some points I didn't like on this cruiser: 1) Riding position: 1.1) A Box engine is not appropriate to a cruiser because it is supposed to use advanced controls; Parallel one would be nice (like Triumph Thunderbird); 1.2) The torso is projected forward; 2) From a BMW I'd expect a liquid cooled engine, So a 1550cc would be enough; 3) If a 1800cc has not a passenger seat option, forget it.

One of the problem with sales is that current dealers, at least within 50 miles around me, have a limited stock. There are so many versions that they typically get only 2 or 3, and even that may mean they only get one of each color. Go to a local Harley dealer, which is in every small town, you will find at least 5 of each model and color. BMW is shooting themselves in the foot. They are not fooling anyone. They sincerely DON"T want to sell a lot of bikes in the US market. It is pure elitism.

I agree with Peanut Butter but one area, NEEDS to have cruise control! My manual labor hands are in bad shape and I definitely would give a deposit for this bike with cruise control!! Have been test driving and pondering HD's and Indians this year (they have cc), but willing to wait a few months for this!!!

The H&S zealots will ensure that the reverse levers and exposed shaft internals won't make production - although I wish they would. But I can see the rest of the R18 looking a pretty faithful reproduction of the latest R5 apeing proto. Just make it already!
