The first X6 was an unexpected success and bmw moneymaker and you should have included that bit of history. Despite the motoring press bashing it, people were buying it like crazy. Target groups were the soccer milf, the rich kids in Dubai or the pro athlete who scored his first contract. And others are now imitating it, eg Merc GLC Coupe, so in my book its been a success.
My gay neighbors own an X6. They’re actually going to get an A6 wagon once their lease is up because they don’t find the car practical at all. I drove the X6 and it drives basically like my X5 with all the inherent disadvantages outlined by SG in this video. This is a line that should get cancelled.

Browsing through all the options for a single vehicle on the Merc website make me pity those in charge of assembly and logistics. This is coming from someone who works in industrial automation and a believe of JIT in assembly 😅
@@nicholaslee5473 Mercedes is truly ridiculous. They offer like 30 different models in the US (not even including the AMG variants) despite having a 2% market share. BMW isn't quite that bad.

18 months ago I purchased a 640i GT largely based on your review. If one doesn't want an SUV but wants the ride height, the GT is so much better than the X6. It actually specs a larger cargo space.

And yes, she complains to the manager at Starbucks that the cream on top of her coffee was not exactly the right shape. Yes, she works very hard.
I think people that buy it think of it like more of a really really big and expensive crossover. Not denying it IS an SUV but I think that’s how people that buy it look at it. They don’t have any SUV needs. Just want a higher ride and some performance. Still stupid tho
Your vids really are the best out there among car reviewers. The editing, the music, the transitions, the information are all without doubt the best. Only flaw is sometimes you're bit harsh on transmissions and performance, but understandable considering those are the kinds of cars you like and own.

My only wish is that car companies bring back actual wagons; that are, in many ways, just as capable, and easier to live with on a daily basis. Thank you to VW, Volvo, Mercedes, and to some extent, Subaru (does the Prius Wagon count??) for still building and selling wagons in the US. The US needs more wagons, and fewer abominations...
I have an appreciation for how consistently good your audio is after that short bit there. People commonly say how good the cinematography is (and it is) but audio video to video and location or scenario to scenario?... the best of anyone I watch. Also this X6 is truly hideous and undignified, there's going to be SO many of these running around on leases. IT'S PERFECT.
When ugliness and disproportion becomes the norm, things get a little dangerous. There are so many bad car designs nowadays, that the public starts to believe that they are beautiful. Thank you for pointing at the right direction.
BMW depreciation is as legendary as their old NA straight sixes. The unfortunate thing is that this thing will cost a bundle to keep running. Every BMW I've had required frequent preventive maintenance to stay reliable. They used to be dedicated to driving enthusiasts. Now, apart from an M car, enthusiasts must look elsewhere, and frankly the new M cars are really only about the engine/drivetrain. Damn fine engines, though.
The rear taillights are actually unique. When they make all that high style marketing material this actually looks the part. Abstract, yes. Pleasing to everyone, no. The equivalent X5 looks like a Grand Cherokee from the rear. Sure its less practical but you won't see them all over the place and the belt line in the rear is so high it looks intimidating compared to your standard SUV.
I saw an Accord Crosstour earlier and I thought it would be the low point of the day. Then this video appeared and the earlier trauma was forgetten. These seem like they are tailor-made for the would-be sedan shopper who is afraid that if they hit a pedestrian with their new sedan, the pedestrian might survive and sue them.
Your content is so good I watch every video intently. Even videos on $64k useless vehicles for morons. Congrats on 400k. It might have taken longer than other automotive channels, but you didn't drop quality, didn't pander, and never gave in to clickbaiting, and there's a lot to respect in that.
My wife drives a 2017 X6, and she loves it. It has one of the high end interior packages (the cool kids refer to it as peanut butter guts). Very nice inside, rides great, good power. We can fold down the rear seats and throw in our 2 Oru kayaks and head out for a day paddling, which you cannot do in a sedan or coupe. We drove it from California to Florida towing a 16 foot enclosed trailer with our racecar inside in total comfort. We have bombed through Angels Crest Forest in it and had a great time, despite it's weight and size. Is the rear seat and cargo space compromised for the styling? Without a doubt. I have sat back there in comfort for long durations and I am 5'11", but anyone taller would start to complain. My wife doesn't like the look of the X5, so this is a great compromise. She gets a car she loves, and lets me borrow it to tow the racecar to the track on some weekends and haul our kayaks around on the others. Is BMW slicing the pie thinner and thinner with all the X models? Absolutely. They wouldn't be doing the X6 for another generation if it wasn't profitable. To each their own! My daily is a 2019 Miata, but I can still appreciate the X6 for what it is. Keep up the great videos!
Other than the reservations i have with the styling. It is genuinely the best value in the premium suv segment. It also has the best drivetrain sub the porsche which is far and away the most expensive in the segment.
I just clicked the 'subscribe' button and 'liked' this video, Your content is high grade and to the point and enjoyable to watch. But thats where we start to differ on this cars review. I absolutely love the exterior of the X6 and it is much more sporty to drive then its sibling the X5. Not everyone needs the practicality of an suv. There is a demographic that's beyond having a family to move around and no longer needs the Costco runs and we are back to wanting a more sporty drive which these 'SAV's are filling that niche. I own a 2013 X5 diesel and also an 2022 X2 XDrive 28i. Both are great at what they are designed for but I get more enjoyement behind the wheel of the X2. Looking forward to more reviews even if you do get them wrong on occasion.
I thought the point of the liftback bodystyle was either fuel efficiency (see Prius), or lower mass center (Mazda6 hatch vs. Mazda6 wagon). This car has neither.
Well, you got an AWD SUV that rivals sports cars from a stop and can get you groceries in style, if you don't like it, don't buy it The sales indicate that a lot of other people see the point in the Coupe-UVs
Good point. I owned a 2007 Mazda 6i 5-door hatch, and loved it for 12 years before I traded it for a 2019 CX-5 Signature. This X6 is too big a bulky for a fastback hatch/coupe look. Stick with a regular SUV design. The sedans should be 5-doors, the small trunk openings on most sedans are a joke.

I've always seen people talk shit and hate on the X6 and X6M. But you can't deny it's a huge succes. At first they don't give a shit, now the truth is every luxury and performance manufacturers are doing the Coupe SUVs. The first follower is the last gen GLE63s coupe which is a true beast just like the X6M. And after that came the Cayenne turbo coupe, the Urus and the not that coupe 'RsQ8'. You can't deny X5M, the normal GLE63S and the Cayenne turbo are a little bit too boring for some customers. Not everyone wants a real two door coupe or a supercar. Or you would assume thay the X6M buyers already had some supercar and real practical vehicles. The X6M really feels more gangster than any other BMWs.
At least it is fast, so no one has to look at it for long. Great video again Mark and Jack! Dug through a landfill for a flip phone just to subscribe as ordered.
I liked the original X5 back in the early 2000's. Other than that I have never cared much for BMW SUVs. Thank you for reviewing this vehicle anyway and entertaining me with your humour. (:
BMW is doing a great job of making the Customer choose what they want. All the permutations of the chassis and engines gives me a "have it your own way" style of choice when it comes to selection
Wanted more space than a Sedan, hated the box of a SUV... hence I love the fast back look of these things, GLE, but since I can't afford one I got the Honda Crosstour. Yes, if you're above 6 feet, the rear seats are a bit of an annoyance, and you don't get as much cargo space, but how often do you fill the cargo area to the roof anyways?

The engineering investment in the like/subscribe/bell thing with the flip phone is slightly less than what BMW paid to style the exterior of this vehicle, and yet it looks so much better.
The X6 is basically a properly proportioned sedan, like we used to have in the 1940s. But we became used to the squished cars in the 1960s and that stupid trend became the norm. The only demerit that I see is that X6 is a liftback. But then KIA Stinger is like that too, and it gets a pass from the media. Nobody who complains about the CUV trend and prefers sedans has any right to complain about X6, then.
Holden badging on my ‘17 SS makes for countless double takes. That badge and exhaust noise have started many conversations and all of them have been good.

I am tired simple 4-door sedans and bored with the squared (or even semi-squared) up SUVs, this car is fantastically offers something different (not ugly per the reviewer)...........Love it. Furthermore to the reviewers, it's a X6 M50i not 550i. I appreciate the review of underneath the X6.
I always wondered how/why a lot of the cars you review have NJ plates but you live in the Illinois area. I can't be the only one with this question on my mind.
