Detail no but that includes everything that the first service requires as per the owners manual, including a full inspection and your first chain clean/lube. I would recommend anyone who isn't mechanically inclined to take it to a shop for the first service at minimum. If you know nothing about motorcycles, they'll make sure you're not riding something that is gonna kill you/hurt the bike due to a simple mechanical issue. If anything is going to vibrate loose it's gonna be in that first 600miles.
Do you put oil inside the new oil filter? You mentioned you put oil around the seal, didn't quite understand if you have to actually fill the inside as well. Aside from that thanks for the very detailed instuctions, never done one before so this helps a lot!
Oil color looks in a very good condition. I though for this kind of first oil change. We can buy a metal filter and reuse oil after get through filter.
I always let Honda do the maintenance inside the warranty period - i.e. first 12 months. If anything resurfaces later (which is not likely, but possible) they keep a record of what was done so you don't have to. On the first 600 mi (1,000 km) visit, Honda also does a once-over the bike besides the oil change - so it's worth paying 2.5% maintenance on a $10K machine.
I just did my first service myself I bought the oil and filter and took a pic with receipt and odo reading I hope that’s good enough for warrantee? I’m gonna run synthetic rotella t6 after this change just like my other bikes. Being a Honda I’m not too worried about warrantee issues cuz if runs for a week it’ll run forever! I love mine I did a tail tidy and bar end mirrors and looks way better😄
While it’s a good thing to know how to maintain your own bike, the dealership does not just drain the oil and replace the filter as part of the service
What is the reference of filter? On my Honda dealer they installed a 15410-MCJ-505 but I’ve seen elsewhere that the correct one is MFJ-D02 as it has more holes like yours
For one reason or another, my oil filter becomes very dirty over the course of a year. It did also get onto other stuff that's close to the filter. The first time I found out (a year ago), did the oil+ filter change myself. Just now found out that the new filter is dirty and its surroundings are also dirty again... What causes this? I tightented the filter as it says in the manual so it didn't get too tight or too loose.
For warranty purpose there is an issue doing work yourself even if you have receipts of parts bought. However while under warranty you can go to any licensed mechanic you trust, who gives receipts and who will surely charge you much much less than Honda for the same services. As long as the recommended items are done Honda cannot deny warranty claims in that case.
I am glad I am not living in those countries, in our dealership those are free for a year, aside from the oil and filters you need to pay for those and it only cost like 20$ for all of them here.
My Honda dealership charged me 120 euros for the first service at 1000km and 130 euros for the 2nd service at 5000km (12months) I wouldn't like to pay what you were quoted either but for peace of mind whilst under warranty I'll happily let them do it and have an invoice and service book to cover me should there ever be an issue, also when it comes time to sell potential buyers love to see service history from main dealers.
Brian - I I am curious why you need to change the washer on the drain plug bolt. It is made out of metal, and looked just fine to me. Does it absolutely need to be changed every oil change, and if so, why ?
IceMan Kent you could reuse it. The book says replace it, so I just went ahead and did it. The reason your supposed to replace it is mostly to prevent leaks, because after one use it has imperfects that could cause leaking. They sell reusable washers for less than $2 at AutoZone.
You should always get your first service interval done at the dealer. They are doing a lot more than just charging the oil. There’s a reason why it’s $250
i doubt they do anything at all except oil change, but if yes, so they will inspect visually bikes condition- so you can do yourself- suspension, brakes, fluids, tyres, chain and sprockets - simple!
pretty sure honda manual said to do it after the first 600 miles(break in), then you are on a 4000 mile schedule, which is awesome. Source: pg. 59 cdn.powersports.honda.com/documentum/MWOM/ml.remawmom.2019_31k0aa00_cb300r.pdf
you can't go by how a oil "looks" anymore. First oil change is shorter, aka break in oil change will possibly have shavings in the oil. Also, the oil suspends so many bad things in it that doesn't always look dark, which is why they also suggest an oil change every year regardless of milage, cuz oil degrades and become acidic.
to mee lokks like you overtightenned the filter- i been told that filter should be done by hands only, otherway you can damaged the o ring seal if tightening with wrench
@@myparadiseing I think I am better looking then you. I also have a Porsche 911 Carrera cab. have a good one!! Mircea! what a dumb name... thanks for your shitty attitude! and good luck in life!
I actually traded it in for the 2021 Goldwing DCT. However, to answer your question, the transmission shares the same oil as the engine oil (why you HAVE to have the correct oil type), the coolant should be good for 6-8 years, and the dot 4 brake fluid is supposed to be good for 3 years 36k miles - but it’s a sealed system and I would not do it for maybe double that. Hopefully, this helps.
Robin nah. That’s just fear mongering from dealers that change $250 for what I did in this video. If you document it, your fine. Ultimately, if you bike has an issue unrelated to the oil change and the bike is in the 12 month warranty period, Honda is on the hook and would have to spend more money proving it was your fault than actually covering the repair.
Look up the only Honda motorcycle dealership in Memphis, TN and get a quote lol. It does NOT cancel your warranty and now it’s out of warranty because it’s over a year old and I just traded it in on a Goldwing. Cheers!
I have no clue why everyone is committing that this voids the warranty (which is up in 9 days), because it doesn’t. There is nowhere in the manual that states you cannot perform maintenance. The only way it would impact your warranty would be using non approved oil or filter, or not preform the maintenance correctly which results in damage. If you bike has a catastrophic failure and the maintenance was correct, the burden is on Honda, not you.
Your warranty will be void, plus when you sell the bike you won't be able to prove all the maintenance has been done correctly at the right intervals, Honda has just extended the warranty period to 6 years, providing you take the bike for service to an authorised dealer, I had a seal leak on mine and Honda replaced it free of charge. Also it is worth remembering that you tube is an international platform, where people from all over the world can watch your videos, in this particular case you are giving out the wrong advice based on EU Honda warranty policies. While you encourage your viewers to change the oil themselves, you should also emphasise the importance of disposing of the used oil correctly...
