I had the 2016 c7 sting, enjoyed it so much, miss it so much. I sold it Jan 2019 before they got dumped into the market and to prepare me for the c8 in 2021. If you can, get you one. You only live once, enjoy life.

Thanks for nerding out, Carlos! After 7 track days and a very corded set of tires I got a track alignment on my SS1LE... there were some growing pains with the alignment shop but I’m happy with where I ended up... track weekend at the Corvette Museum this weekend so looking forward to see how the car handles (and with fresh tires).

So you compared track vs street mode in all the ways that it made no difference and then provided only the briefest summary of how the two alignment settings affect the car on the track. Your synopsis was basically right out of the owner's manual. I was hoping to see hot laps comparing times between track and street alignments, which is the point of the track alignment.

The street alignment provides a higher threshold by understeer. What about street driving on track alignment, does it feel like it could snap oversteer?

No. This platform has no bad handling characteristics on track other than inconsistent brakes, lack of front end grip, and unwillingness to rotate around low speed corners even with the track alignment. With the traction control on it will not bite novice drivers. The limits are so high that to explore the limits on the road you're going to be going unethically fast. If you have TC off, low skills, and are on the street cornering at the limit of front tire grip, then slam on the brakes, of course it will spin.

But what true Corvette aficionados really want to know is, does it come with a Cars and Coffee alignment? Is it going to easily back into that parking spot or is the understeer going to make them have to go forward for a second, correction try. No one wants to be snickered at by the jorts community for not nailing the first try reverse with enough room behind to set the the camping chair. I suggest a Lowes parking lot track test.

The biggest complaint about the C8, after no manual, is it's too refined and too quiet. This break down of alignment by Carlos makes you wonder if Motor Trend and others, who have complained about understeer, made the track adjustments when they track tested the car

I found this platform to not be as user friendly on track as the C7Z51 or Z06 variants. Its ability to trailbrake is significantly worse than the C7. Complex downhill corners with multipart braking zones, especially off camber, get a weird and inconsistent brake response. There's some Audi level eLSD-brake-traction control wizardry going on. If the car's going to spin, just freaking spin and let me learn or hit a wall. I'm not the best driver but I can usually hold or correct oversteer. Threshold braking is also difficult to achieve and repeat. Pedal feedback and front end feedback through the wheel are not as good as in the C7. My lap times in a C8Z51 are 2 seconds/lap slower than in a C7Z51 around a 2 minute track. The front end just doesn't stick as hard, and getting the car rotated with trail braking around low speed corners just doesn't happen like with the C7. Oh, and the C8 doesn't have a manual (Manuel).

Why are your 0-60 times so bad? Did you launch it? Not correctly, tonns of users have better times, like 2.8 and 2.9.

Because the real world is not a test track. Pavement on the road is usually not as good as that on a drag strip. Dust, weather, altitude, humidity, fat drivers who ate too many cheeseburgers, tire wear, tire heat, lots of variables.

Lolll GM has locked the ECU. But l did throw the idea around of a CVT centrifugal supercharger that is crazy efficient and compact and suited to the C8 Z51.... Obviously using an adjustable pulley using the a CVT type system for the belt drive... With the oil for the supercharger gearbox tapped into the factory oil system...

You are using times from the in-car timer which has been proven to be wildly inaccurate. It is off by as much as 0.3-0.7 secs. You need to use a vbox or dragy for accurate results. Good lord. A 2 seater RWD car should never weigh nearly 3700 lbs. Yeah, a dct is a fat heavy gearbox, but I guess they could not lighten up the body and chassis any further to compensate for that added weight. I remember the c6 base model weighed under 3300 lbs.

Part of this is probably cheap materials to pass crash tests and lots of tech to carry. I wish they were under 3000.

@@jamesengland7461 I agree. This is heavy for a car built on a bespoke two seater platform. My M4 weighs about the same, is bigger, has rear seats, and share a basic platform with a mass-produces budget car.

Safety standards are constantly increasing and require more structural metal. Look at the crash cell on a C6, C7, and C8 in the frame cutaway. I know which one I'd rather eat a wall in and it's not the C6 or C7.

That transmission may very well add 200+ pounds all by itself. Also, the extreme acceleration may have caused them to heavily reinforce the rear chassis to handle the abuse, and probable 800+ hp of a future ZR1. Also, I'm not confident they take weight seriously anyway. Probably lots of wasted pounds. I cannot rationalize why any sports car weighs over 500 pounds more than a Miata anyway.

Mid engine cars have the best handling even better than rear engine cars. Mid engine cars have superior weight distribution having nearly 50/50 balance.

The only thing Porsche beats is your wallet. Dollar for dollar, the base C8 actually competes with the 718 Cayman. That $50,000 premium for the 992 is nothing short of insulting.

I save you the time, it doesn't say it because face masks are totally ineffective against viruses'. This was studied extensively and worldwide for decades before this 'covid' mess started. The studies concluded that masks are ineffective against viruses (while causing low blood oxygen levels, headaches, and an increase in illness in some cases) and that is why no one in hospitals wore masks outside of surgery theaters or dental offices before the covid/mask marketing campaign started. CIDRAP is leading the covid/mask marketing campaign. The US states that did not issue unconstitutional 'shut down' orders or mask mandates have had FEWER all cause deaths this year compared to last year. That's CDC data. It's obviously your right to wear a mask, but don't try to force me to. We can never allow the government to shut down our country again and we can certainly never allow this mask mandate to turn into an excuse to bring the madness happening in Australia to our country.

When Cats Fly If you had bothered to read CIDRAP articles, you would know they have articles that cover the reasons why masks are useful and why they are not the answer, in a lot of scientific detail. Osterholm, the site director, has been lambasted for not being pro mask enough and anti mask enough. In short though, wearing a mask reduces transmission by a percentage (a lot variables). Masks are part of the virus transmission program, but they are not the one stop fix.

This car is nice and capable, nothing wrong with the car. Its just a bit too expensive at 80K. GM is selling old technology at the brink of electrification/hybrid power. Considering the C8 being a Ferrari/Lambo/McLaren copycat and GM employing more people in China than USA the price of this car should be lower. That's how I see it from my corner - again, nice car.

How can anyone seriously compare any Corvette from the past 36 years to its competition and say it's not a good value? If you insist on that silliness, calculate the Corvette price since 1984 and adjust for inflation, compared to the current model. Then, for fun, divide by horsepower to get a price per.

@@jamesengland7461 I don't buy sport cars by the horsepower but my good friend does, C7 ZR1 for $140K was not a good buy by any measure and the promise 0 to60 in 2.9s always disappointing and its not easy to keep up with six cylinder cars either. Again, C8 is a good car but 80K is a lot of money. You can by a Tesla 3 for less, it will embarrass you at the race truck, maybe two laps. I am not an electrical car fan but I expected a lot more from GM.

In the hands of a real racecar driver the model 3 might beat a base corvette but regular people will be faster in the corvette thanks to the greater confidence in how it moves and handles on a track. But you obviously do not understand the enjoyment of driving if you are comparing those two cars. Next you will be asking why anyone would pay 30k for a miata.
