💯💯💯 American 4 banger sports cars (ecoboost mustang/LTG camaro) are EXTREMELY underrated. These are cars that offer better bang for your buck compared to Civic Type R, Golf R, WRX, JCW, V4 A90 Supra, Audi TT and many more but because they don’t have a Japanese badge no one gives a sh1t about them.

Alot of people have become spoiled over the years with these 400+ horsepower v8s. Im from the old school and this ecoboost has more horsepower than most v8s from the 1960s-2009, hell ive even driven an ecoboost on a few occasions and im impressed by it. Its funny that not too long ago this ecoboost wouldve been a high performance car with its 310 and 350 pound feet of torque, but now alot of people are considering this slow, my how times have changed, and people are becoming more and more spoiled.

I have a veloster N with performance pack, and I autocross/track it almost every weekend. I can definitely see the appeal of something like this. For autocross, I think this car with the handling package and manual trans would be a TON of fun. I think I'd actually consider one of these down the road if I'm looking for a rwd car. To be honest, I don't think a lot of people need much more than 300 hp. I'm glad Ford makes an entry level mustang. As a GT it was hard to beat, save for the smallish trunk. My daily driver is a Fiesta ST, which is huge fun, but a bit intense for my wife. I just rented one of these two weeks ago and thought it was pretty awful. Completely because of the 10 speed auto trans. It was so un-smooth to drive. It wanted to shift into second 5 feet off the line and by the time you've hit 10mph it's shifting into 3rd. I was driving the winding roads of oregon and it would constantly hunt/downshift so keeping a smooth consistent throttle was difficult because you only needed a little bit of throttle, but it drops three gears and all of sudden it lurches and tries to take off on you. Manual mode likes to cancel itself too quickly, and the manual shifts are too harsh/crisp for a comfort mode (although I'd love it if I was in sport). The suspension was pretty good, but still we were pretty tired by the time we'd park it after 3 hours on the road. Power was great. Sound of the engine was good. Wind buffetting with the windows down was really bad (but you had a convertible so maybe you didn't notice!). I'd totally take one, but give me a 7 speed where its a 6 speed with a highway cruising 7th gear.

@@Krautastic I think you made the mistake to drive it in “D” and not in “S”. Big mistake... Prefer Supercharger (Whipple/ Roush), because at 38,000 miles i had Turbine Lockup within the Turbos at 82°+. This is caused by Thermo Variations consider locations of Turbos Ford mounts them below for lower center of gravity. Problem is they're right next to the very hot engine. Ricers know this and mount them up high close to heat extraction hood vents. To keep them cooler, and not for show. Now the Turbo Shell expands like a donut 🍩, while it's being baked the outside expansion is outwards vs. Inside expansion is inward the hole gets smaller. The Blades expansion is outward to be larger to hit the Shell. Locking up the Turbine Blades, and then add the Backflow from the Intake and Downpipe to it to spool the the Turbos more. My fuel mileage went from 32 mpg to 8-12 mpg. Glad for 2021 it'll have the GT500 engine package 5.0 V8

This is exactly the car I always wanted and I am absolutely the target demographic. I'm a guy in my mid 30s who makes enough money to enjoy this as my daily driver and it seems like a Saturn V rocket compared to the dumpster fire sedans and used hybrids I've had my entire broke-ass life haha. I don't really want more power than it has and the handling is super fun. It's gorgeous compared to everything else in its price range, too. The back seat is exactly perfect for my Husky/Shepherd mix. If you're looking at the 86/FRS/BRZ, look at this instead.

I appreciate the high performance offered by the GT or the GT500 but in the end every financial decision comes with an opportunity cost. No matter your financial position a $95,000 GT500 (because you can’t buy the base GT500, that would not show your true enthusiast passion) and you finance it for 60/MO at 0% that’s $1,583/MO and I left out cost for taxes, tags etc. At the end of the video, you do mention some more positive notes but the disdain for this car is palpable. True, go back not that far in the past and a base Mustang was not a good car period, enthusiast or not, but I give credit to Ford for working to change and improve the entire Mustang range so you don’t need to invest a mortgage payment each month into a car to have a good experience.

I bought a new 2018 Mustang Ecoboost 10 speed automatic and love it. I bought a base model, with a few options, to keep it light and cheap. The MSRP was $28,865 and I paid $22,890, excluding taxes and DMV fees. I wasn't looking for an all out sports/performance car and all of the compromises they come with. I was looking for more of a budget GT car, to use as a daily driver. My car will run 13.20s in the 1/4 mile, stock. All I did was adjust the tire pressures. Also, it'll get 35mpg on the highway at 70 mph, with the 3:15 rear gears. It outperforms my 2006 Mustang GT automatic in every measure of performance. It ran 13.60s stock, and gets 27 mpg at 70 mph. If your wondering why you've never seen a Mustang Ecoboost run low 13s in the 1/4 mile, in a magazine road test, it's because the never test a base model automatic. They always test a premium and/or performance pack car. These cars are heavier. Also, alot of their added weight is in the bigger wheels, tires, and brakes, which is the worst place for acceleration. Further, if you have the 10 speed auto trans, you don't need rear gears bigger than the 3.15s. This trans has a 4.70 first gear. To get the benefit of bigger rear gears, you'd have to run wide drag radials or slicks. Also, the manual trans cars are easily 5 tenths slower in the 1/4 mile and 0-60. What other car, in this price range, will run low 13s, get 35mpg, has 4 seats, a large trunk, and is as comfortable? For you V-8 fanatics, I had 5 V-8 Mustangs before this one, and none were as quick, and all drank noticably more gas. Sure, the coyotes and factory supercharged cars are quicker, but they're also quite a bit more expensive and drink alot more gas. Anyway, I paid my money, made a choice I'm happy with, and don't begrudge V-8 owners for doing the same.

@@stephenbello1081 It does have its weight issues, but I am ok with that. Some better tires, a familiarity with where its limits are, and how it arrives at those limits all help my coexistence with it. Up until last month I owned a seriously wicked up Fiesta ST, and still own an NA Miata as well as a Turbo swapped Volvo 144. The Mustang slots in below the NA and Fiesta in terms of nimble, but can still hustle while providing more daily comfort than both combined. The compromises were small enough to me that I was able to end a five year love affair with the ST, as a matter of fact. It licks the old Volvo in every way except gas-pump conversation starting. My advice is to find a pre-18 car with no options except the performance pack and recaros. Everything you want, nothing you don't. Since I am word salading a bit, one more paragraph before dragging ass out of bed to start the day. The S550, in eco, with performance pack, recaros, and the MT82 is not going to set the world on fire VS purpose built cars. I would know. But it's capabilities are far more potent for the everyday than many would expect if you take the time to learn how it behaves. It's compromises are far less relevant to the experience than you might imagine. And if you don't like the compromises it does have, the aftermarket solutions are more plentiful than prostitutes in an economic depression.

Not a single mention about modding, which is a huge plus for this car. The Cobb kit brings all the parts to work with each tune and you could really awaken this car if you wanted, $800 for a stage 1 with CAI or $1600 for stage 2. The first one is self-install, the 2nd stage you'll need someone to install a radiatior. 3rd stage gets you a cat-back (slides right in) for another 1k and at that point pulling closer to 400hp. This is somewhat safe since the tunes provided are designed for those parts but the people who've reviewed them noticed a huge difference in how it pulls (you get a taller rev curve).

My first new car was a 1989 Mustang 2.3L 4cyl that had 90 horsepower and 122 ft-lbs of torque. I drove that vehicle for 400,000 km (250,000 miles) over a decade. The 5.0L V-8 EFI had 225 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs of torque in 1989. I purchased my new 2019 Mustang ecoboost for $10,000 under MSRP in January of this year. It it fun to drive, turns heads, makes 310 horsepower and 350 ft-lbs of torque. I look forward to another 400,000 kilometres of touring with this red headed step child.

I have had 8 Mustangs, all V8’s including a GT350. My ‘15 EB PP is the best I have owned, and since sold to my son. Why? Averages 24 MPG, excellent street engine, and handling with less weight over the nose. The car structure remains tight, has been very reliable, inexpensive to own and simply fun to drive. Do I want 2020 GT500? Hell Yea!

My wife has an EcoBoost Mustang convertible as her daily driver. It’s pretty nice, actually, although the spring/shock/strut set-up is rough. Thirty mpg, reliable as can be, no problems at the 50,000 mile mark. When she bought it, it could not be ordered with a limited slip differential, which is just stupid. As a result it’s a handful to drive here in the northern clime during winter, unless streets are clear. Otherwise, nice car.

I owned a 2009 Corvette and a 2017 Challenger RT Scat Pack. I actually liked the Challenger better then the vett...BUT I spent loads more cash on those cars. I needed a 2nd car and I did not have the "I don't care how much this costs i want it attitude". So I purchased a 2021 Echo Boost Premium 10 speed automatic last week and this car is super fun and handles well. Its obviously not as fast out of the gate as my Vette or the Challenger, but I spent 1/2 the money....I love this little car! It is a lot of bang for the buck.

Just bought a 2020 Ecoboost Premium Convertible in Velocity blue today . I am 61 . this is my retirement car . I have had a lot of new cars , performance cars , fast motorcycles , and I love this car . its got the performance exhaust 20 inch wheels and nice seats . and gets up to 100mph quick enough . done that on the way home from the dealer . had to test it . . don 't need a race car . this car is fast enough . speed limits on the freeway is 70 , Whoop "s ! so screw the v8 and higher insurance . this is all I need.

I'm 73 and have a 2019 Kona Blue Ecoboost Premium six speed manual convertible and love it. Way more than enough power. I had a new 1986 GT liftback with its amazing 200hp and thought that was the cat's pajamas. I also have a 2011 V6 Premium convertible with manual....actually like it better than the Ecoboost, and it has 82,000 miles. I did install a new touch screen interface with Android, so it now has modern HVAC controls and infotainment system.

I watched this the other night. Then reviewed the 2015 video, and watched the current eco-boost video again this afternoon. I'm a senior and different demographic from Sg, but I was very sport car motivated during my younger years, and I have competition experience, (so I am a car guy). I'm looking for a comfortable, touring type, GT car with year round capabilities. I don't have room nor do I want the cost of two vehicles, so the eco-boost Mustang manual trans with LSD (for winter) looks like a good fit for me. I initially thought Sg's review was negative, but after viewing it a second time, I agree with most of his statements. I want a manual trans because I'm still a boy-racer at heart. Plus 300 net hp is A LOT compared to what I drove from the 1960's to 2000+. This car looks like a good fit for me.

I can tell you this ecoboost is actually quite fun and has serious performance. I would say the number one drawback is that it does not have a good exhaust sound. Other than that, these two are WAY Off on this review.

I don’t see the issue. I have a 15 ecoboost that I bought for the wife. I also have a 13 boss and a fox with a 625 hp stroked Windsor. I’ve put more miles on her ecoboost than the others combined. I’m not looking to be seen and I like flying under the radar. I use it on long trips and I’m just as happy with it as any of the others. I only wish it was manual, but it was for her.

I drove the high performance ecoboost a few months ago, it definitely was a quick car, with the high performance model it does 0-60 in 4.6 seconds... that really isn’t “that” far off from the gt. If I were to get the ecoboost it would have to be the high performance model or I would just go to the Gt, because you definitely feel the difference in the regular ecoboost to the high performance, it’s definitely worth the couple grand. As a daily driver I would most definitely get the ecoboost, could I daily the Gt? Well yeah obviously but just as a daily, I’d prefer the high performance ecoboost.

“My only complaint”. You guys have complaining this whole video. This is not the GT or higher trims with the bigger engines and better suspensions. People who buy this version of the car already knows this. This is why the eco-boost version outsells the GT 2-1. I see more “regular” people drive this version that car rental fleets. I have a ‘19 velocity blues eco-boost and I have all kinds of fun in it. Because I’m not an adult kid anymore I’m gonna be 40 in 2 months. I have had V-8 cars in the past and that time has come and gone. I had my fun in those types of cars and now I’m more about practicality and insurance. Easily could have bought the GT, didn’t want to. I have way more fun just cruising and getting great gas mileage and complements on the car, than cornering hard and stomping on the gas and watching my money getting flushed down the toilet because I’m once a week putting gas in the tank. Regardless whatever your income level is. It’s all in what your preference is. But take it from me, if you aren’t a hooligan and know that this version doesn’t sound and drive like the GT, you will have just as much fun in this version just like the big V-8.

Two years after this video went live, and I'll add my two cents to boost this channels numbers... I like this car. My wife and I rented one of these late 2021; I believe it was the ecoboost premium convertible. Premium because it had leather seats, but since there was no window sticker it is hard to know for sure. Anyway, we had that car for a week and absolutely loved it. It cruised well, and very quite with the top up, had great fuel economy, and was quicker than any car I have owned. Like the guys in the video said, for a daily driver this is hard to beat. In fact, now that we are in the market for a replacement car (RIP 2022 post-infectious disease car market) we are seriously looking at picking up a low miles used one. We loved it for a solid week, would we love it for 5+ years??? Only time will tell.

As somone who now owns a GT having enjoyed the 2.3T for a few years, my own driving experience really doesnt match this clinical and misleading review - on the one hand you flatter the ecoboost: to imply that it is much better on gas mileage than the GT just isn't true. If you 'baby' either engine, you can get 35 mpg on a flat highway, yeah, if you 'track drive' the GT it will sink down to approx 12mpg whereas the ecoboost can be pulled down as low as around 18mpg. BUT, for me, real world driving average has proven to be an identical 23 mpg in both cars. On the other hand, you are way too dismissive of the ecoboost's performance...all very "meh" in your view it seems: Yes my GT sounds a million times better than my ecoboost did, but it's only a tiny bit faster (I was getting 0-60 in 5.5 seconds in my 2.3T) and given that the ecoboost is more nimble/agile and has got tons of low down torque, I reckon I would get a faster time around a very tight and twisty track in the 2.3 than I could in my GT (and that is why some car reviewers (on this side of the pond anyway), have referred to the GT as the 'posers car' but the 2.3T as the true drivers car. I can see why they would say that.

@Frank White even tho I traded mine (for a GT) I disagree with you for many reasons. have you driven one?
@MrHammoreds
@MrHammoreds 4 года назад
@Frank White Ok, if that's your experience, fine I won't argue. The fact that my 2.3t got 5.5s 0-60 is phenominal for engine size to car weight ratio and I am not sure that my GT would shave more than 0.5s from that at best - so I am perpleced by your "no power" comment. The savagegeese "saddles optional" review seems far more positive towards the 2.3T.
@MrHammoreds
@MrHammoreds 4 года назад
@Frank White ok, well let's agree to disagree. I found the low down power and nimbleness of the 2.3T to be anything other than "pathetic" in terms of ability to throw it round corners and to be competetative in road race scenarios - sure, you don't take it to a drag strip or expect high end power, as it's offering a different perfromance experience - to compare it with a 560hp car is kind of missing the point imho.

Loving my HPP HP. Great gas mileage when I drive it like a "normal" person but can't always find the strength to do so. 200 lbs lighter up front than a GT and just a BLAST to drive in any corner. Spec'd out and cheaper than the PP2 GT. No brainer. 7th Mustang I've owned and over half were GT's and this one will smoke all of them. Nuff said.

Love my 2020 2.3L HPP with the handling package. I installed the Roush intake and it’s a blast to drive in the twisties. It’s amazing to me that you can get a Mustang with a pp2 package and magnaride for under 40k. Your video puts all the 4 bangers in the same bag and they are not all created equal. I personally would choose the HPP over the GT for balance and handling. IMHO.

People downplay the Ecoboost....but IRS suspension, drive modes, 310 hp / 350 torque, and 5 sec 0-60 times were Ferrari numbers not that long ago. it's no slouch. An Ecoboost with a larger aftermarket Turbo, intercooler, and tune will smoke a GT (you can actually buy the upgrades directly from Ford). The manual Trans is SLOWER than the 10 spd auto and the paddle shifters are the real deal (it won't force shift). You need a DCT trans to match the 10 spd auto performance. I bought my 2020 Ecoboost Premium Convertible for $42,850 (loaded) and it was $5000 MORE than the 2020 GT it was sitting next to in the showroom. So I don't know how "value priced" it is as you say. I did buy the Ecoboost because I daily drive a lot (200+ miles a day), and didn't want the 16 mpg. This car requires 93 octane to get the most MPG and Power (around $50 to fill the tank at current prices). I made the mistake of putting 87 octane in the car the first 2 weeks I had it. It lost 20+ hp and I was only getting 18 mpg mixed driving. With 93 the power came back and I get around 23 mpg mixed driving. I honestly never thought I'd see (let alone own) a Mustang with all the performance options, leather everything, Bliss, collision avoidance, automatic cruise (ADAS), navigation, and a wifi hotspot. If you're in the market for a Mustang convertible then buying a GT just doesn't make sense. This is my 4th Mustang. I've owned both the GT and Ecoboost. (I also currently own a Camaro and a Corvette. - they both stay parked because I don't like them that much. I HATE the Camaro with a white hot passion, and the Corvette is incredibly hard to park in the city. Gave the Camaro to my wife.)

I think you guys should review the HPP version, since it's supposedly very different from anything else in the product lineup. I personally still think a base GT is a better daily, because the fun factor is much higher when you want to step on it, but it's very livable the rest of the time. The cheap plastic interior is an eyesore, but it's just as comfortable and quiet as a Premium car and with the 301A package you aren't giving up any technology features.

I bought my EcoBoost for 22. With about 2500 in mods I have new coils, intercooler, exhaust, dp, tune etc and make around 400 whp and can gap gt's. I would say that's not a bad deal. Not to mention taking it to a local track day there was NO WAY any GT could keep up with me once turning was involved. Plus I make a lot more torque than a stock GT as well.

I do have to agree with others, you guys come off as very snobbish and I think very pompous. I went back and forth with the GT and Ecoboost with 55k as a limit and choose the Ecoboost with no snobbish voice in my head telling me it wasn't as good as the GT. I have driven many many GT500s and have not one issue with the Ecoboost. There is plenty of headroom for more horsepower and if you can handle a GT not having but half the HP of a GT500 and just because it makes a V8 noise and be snobbish it's better than the Ecoboost just for that, I don't know what to tell ya. That quiet Tesla is going to blow the doors off of your GT and that snobbish tone will go away quite quickly after that. Life's short fellas, more non snobbish remarks and more positive reviews on a car that deserves quite more.
